Well, I'm very very deeply disappointed, but for those who haven't noticed. Traditional cartoon movies such as the early hits like Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers, and other greatly famed cartoons-are starting to disappear and die away from the world and into the past. There's more cgi and other graphic type movies such as Finding Nemo, The incredibles, Madagascar(exuse for misspell). Cartoon movies in today's world are starting to lose its place and into the depths of our memories. Sure there are recent touch ups of the old classics, but it still doesn't give support to creating more cartoons. Seems children in today's world have found 3D integration more appeasing than the olden type traditional cartoons. Either that, or Disney, Dreamworks, and other famed movie production businesses decided to move up into the future. Though it may be because as you get older, you start to dislike new styles of what you enjoy the most.

It saddens me to see traditional cartoon movies die, and most likely others as well, but it is the world, and the world always moves on and changes everyday.

Er... well those earlier hits are in the "Disney vault" so of course you won't see them around the dvd racks. Anime is always the same, but hardly anyone notices most of the background is rendered. They're only gone if you only pay attention to the mainstream... There are a lot more independent makers now, so "classic" frame by frame animation probably won't die. Korea hasn't quite moved into it. Their animated movie productions number what 5? XD
Disney and Pixar have just grown out of the fairy tale scene. Quite a bit due to that popular piece of satire, Shrek. It's a bit faster doing cgi =/ so maybe it'll lead to more complex plots and more focus on character detail.

I have given this a thought aswell. There's simply nothing going to beat the first Lion King movie.

True. Disney now only focuses on 3D CGI movies, and I personally hate them. I mean, they're okay but since they seemed to have replaced the true art of animation, I hate them anyway :(

Happily, they're re-releasing all the disney classics here, and as soon as they do so with the Lion King I'm buying it, because it's the best disney movie better, IMO XD But yes, I belive that as technology evolves, so does cartooning - and that that isn't a good thing. Afterall, us fogies (ie, those of us born when cartoons looked like cartoons, not pseudo-life) reminisce fondly about the cartoons from our childhood, not about the ones we've seen in the past few years.

It's a shame that we're losing the old ways, but the new ways aren't bad - they're just different. They have not yet beat the classics, but you never know - the style may end up evolving back into the simpler versions that we remember anyway. And I bet you that if it does, it will be heralded as genius!

Well no one likes the old animation from like Lupin III, Astro Boy, Tetsujin, Giant Robo, so don't you think people will adapt and forget? Atleast for a while, we'll still have studio Ghibli and their... almost old fashioned movies. =P

ZOMG FORUM ESP!

I was just thinking about this very subject the other day. I'm not really a big fan of the CG cartoons that have been coming out lately (except shrek. he rocks.). I grew up with "traditional" cartoon movies and that's what I'll always love. The new ones just aren't the same.

Man I feel so old. ._.

I heard somewhere that Disney is making another animated movie that is coming out next year.... Anyway I agree, Lion King has got to be the best animated show ever, and after that comes The Prince of Egypt for Dreamworks (such a beautiful movie).

CriMsoN_DraGoN ~ Yeah, I would have to agree. Personaly, I dont like it when they renew classics, I prefer to watch the originals. Though, If you look it is from that point of view, then I would say that its probably a good thing that they do that.

What I think is sad is that people say "omg cartoons are dead" simply because one (mediocre) company has stopped making them.
There's always anime, you know. Let's not forget about Miyazaki, Makato, or Anno.

Let's see, we had Disney, which looked like this before it died:

And nowadays, we have Makato instead, bringing this to the table:

For some reason, I'm not too worried about cartoons dying. Call me crazy, but I think they're actually looking better than ever.

I think the name of this thread should be changed to include the word "American" in between the words "of" and "traditional."
That would seem more reasonable to me. But if the name is going to be changed, maybe we should just go all out and call it "American cartoons are dead," eh? X3

*Slaps* Disney didn't stop making traditional cartoons because they were doing badly; why do you think they resell all their old cartoons five hundred times? (SUPER EDITION! SUPER DIRECTOR MEGA ADDITION! ANNIVERSARY PALOOZA ULTIMA EDITION! THE REMAKE, NOW ON BLU-RAY LOL!) Disney stopped making traditional cartoons because cgi is less expensive to produce, and the modern day Disney is a piece of crap focused only on making money.

In short, cartoons aren't dead, unless you count the Disney variety. So stop crying over nothing, you bastards! *shakes fist*
What I find especially unforgivable is that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU is currently wearing A HAND DRAWN ANIME SET, ON A FORUM DEDICATED TO ANIME MUSIC, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME SAYING CARTOONS ARE DEAD. And that makes no sense, lol.

This thread made me face palm so god damned hard that I broke my fucking nose. I'll be sending all of you bills to cover my medical expenses.

In an attempt to avoid a letter bomb from HopelessComposer, I'd just like to say that I was only referring to non anime movies. Anime will never die. :teeth:

(sorry about your nose :()

*Throws a letter bomb Nate's way anyway*
My rage cannot be tempered so easily!
But oh, you weren't talking about anime. You're forgiven then.
I think the OP was including anime though, along with most people who posted here. Which is depressing, for the reasons I've already stated. X3

And don't worry too much about my nose. I'm a decently fast healer!

Sniff When Lion King came out of the vault and into theatures for the second time I didn't see it in theatures. I regret that decision.

Yes I like the animations better, but that's probably because I grew up with animations. My parents like shows that they grew up with and my brother and I think the shows are terrible.

The little kids that are growing up with CGi will probably see a CGI movie more than a animated movie.

My personal favourite is Tim Burton's style of stop motion. Hopefully that will never die as well. But I do miss all the old cartoon movies.

Yeah, I remember I used to love to watch the Lion King over and over. I was like 4, but I still enjoyed it very much. But please keep in mind that Toy Story was a good movie, although not being fully cartoon it still held some important lessons. I do miss the old cartoon movies, they were the best after all. I hate it that these new movies are going for laughs, and not a good story. It might be that they are running out of ideas, but come on surely there are some very creative people out there! And also haven't you noticed that the trend for more animal movies is on the rise, Im starting to get tired of it. Oh well, at least we can still cherish the old memories we have.

And yeah, we must not forget about anime! I see they are being affected too much, but they are starting to look a whole lot nicer and cleaner, just look at The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya- very beautiful.
