View Full Version : Taking Requests for Anime Orchestral Music

Nicklagato
November 21st, 2010, 12:46 am
Look, I have to finish 2 pieces atm but I am willing to do anime music as well. I was considering Tank, Space Lion, or Rush from Cowboy Bebop for Jazz band at some point if there are enough people who want that. I have a fascination for Joe Hisashi (sp?) and his music from Miyazaki. But Honestly I don't really know what to pursue first.

So, I am taking suggestions/requests for Anime sheet music for ensembles (since so many people are doing it for chamber groups and piano I guess I may only stick to large requests).

PLEASE: Only post one specific song from one Anime, don't just say a medley from an entire film. Now, if enough people request different music on whole from the same film/show I may decide to do a medley then.

ALSO remember I don't really deal much with techno or anything like that. So make sure when you pick it is something with an orchestra playing and not so much sound fx and high end audio engineering changes, Im doing it for the music. ;)

Sure, Ill take a crack at it, seems like just string quartet though. Let me take some time to figure out the chords and structure, find that pleasant viola part, and Ill see what I can toss together. I won't get to it till after Thanksgiving though. I will post my progress off and on of how it is coming out and if you can make any suggestions Ill take them into consideration from what I hear. I am sure you have heard this song more times than me hands down! lol

You mentioned that you liked stuff from Joe Hisaishi. I'd like to request "Welcome to Dongmakgol" from Joe Hisaishi's Asian X.T.C album. You can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f8w0J7Co_E

I'm mostly interested in the melody part (particulary for a violin).

Well, my focus is in orchestral scores. This is really a trio/quartet at most. If I decide to do a small piece like this Ill make sure to add it but this thread is more geared towards orchestral score transcriptions and arrangements.

Progress Report on Persona: Trinity Soul

Ok, so I was bored of working on my mass and scratching my buttox and decided to start a ROUGH ROUGH draft after figuring out the chords and I am only on measure 12.

There are parts in there where it is hard to hear the difference between Violin II and the Viola but I am still playing around with it. Here is what I have so far: As you can see no real bowings, articulations, or dynamics have been added in it so balance issues are there obviously so bare with me. I really only sat down for about 10 minutes and threw this calamity together. Again, Ill work on it more after Thanksgiving weekend.

:heh:

Well, I have not worked much on Trinity Soul since Thanksgiving so please be patient while I finish that. Perhaps I will post a new thread for that one now that I am working on it.

Not really anime but I will take a look at it too. One project at a time lol. But I hope to, by next weekend, have more time to dedicate to projects outside my own.

Hey Nicklagato, I don't want to steal anything so can I ask your permission to transcribe this?
If not it's ok, I have other Kanno pieces on top of other FFs in mind.

I do plan to do Kanno at some point, probably the music from Cowboy Bebop. Anything else Kanno you are welcome to.

Edit: Progress update - Got about 1:20 into the recording done on paper though there were some parts where second violin/viola could just not be heard, or barely audible due to some balance issues around 1:00 but I did what I could. If your listening to the recording I am at the major key change 33 measure into the piece. I count about 64 measures, so its half done. lol

Nicklagato
November 30th, 2010, 04:01 am
Ok, the Trinity Soul piece is only about 10 measure from being finished. I just need to relax my ears a bit from working on it for about an hour today. But this should be my final update for this piece before I submit it to Ichigo's and post its own thread here with individual parts! Is it me or does it seem that there is not a huge dynamic contrast to this piece? All it is, is a matter of how they balance at the mf dynamic. I will probably not include bowing particularly because parts where 2nd violin and viola have the same moving line you can hear they are using different bowings (i.e. 2nd Violin is doing a down/up but you can totally hear the viola player hooking the passage).

Thanks for you patience!

I will be doing Brothers from Full Metal Alchemist next! Full Orchestra Score (instrumental but if I am in the mood I will supply a vocal attachement)

Thank you for being patient. My clarinet concerto is being performed soon and I am currently focused on getting the score and parts printed and prepared for that. I will have Persona TS done as soon as I finish making the parts and printing the score for my concerto. Since Wednsday I really have not had any time to work on it, my apologies.

Ok, Persona Trinity Soul Theme is done, you can get the score, midi, and parts here: http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?17261-Persona-Trinity-Soul-Main-Theme-for-String-Quartet-Ensemble&p=469425#post469425

December 6th, 2010, 04:21 am
Ok, Persona score and parts are done and submitted to Ichigos. Also, I made a seperate thread in the Requests section so you can download the score, parts, and midi. Enjoy.

Next up on the list shall be Brothers from Full Metal Alchemist and unless any new requests come in from there I will do either Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke or Aerith's Theme from Final Fantasy 7.

Nicklagato
December 7th, 2010, 07:12 am
Ok, so I am 1:40 done with Brothers... pretty straight forward intro section featuring some low brass and low strings with an upper string melody + harp. But now is where it starts to get interesting. (I was bored today with making parts [I hate doing it with a passion] so I told myself I would do it tomorrow and Wed...)

Perhaps I will post a demo score of what I have so far soon, or just go till the end. We'll see!

Hey, I was wondering, would you be able to do the second ending from Black Butler? It's called Lacrimosa, even though it doesn't sound anything like the composition from Mozart. I've been searching for some sheet music for this song since I've heard it, and I was having no luck until I came across this thread, so, I made myself an account on-the-spot, and here I am. I'd be so thrilled if you could do this, I've been searching since forever, and my fingers have been itching to play it on my violin. Really though, I'd be so in-debted to you if you could do this for me!

Nicklagato
January 2nd, 2011, 03:49 pm
I will consider it. Right now I am working on Full Metal Alchemist "Brothers" at the moment and I have some work to do on that before it is done. After I will probably take on 1 or 2 Final Fantasy pieces as well. I need you to share with me a recording of the actual piece you want me to arrange/transcribe first so I can calculate how difficult it may be. If there are things in it that are not orchestra possible, things like that, I need to be able to hear it so I know.

Lacrimosa tells me there is probably a choir part. Lacrimosa is not Mozart exclusive as it is part of a mass. Several different masses have lacrimosa's in them so I would also have to figure out the latin text. Again, I wont say yes on doing it till I actually hear it.

I think it has all the parts for the orchestra. :D

Nicklagato
February 7th, 2011, 04:20 pm
Well, I am still working on it. I just finished my major commission, which for me pays the rent. Requiem Mass done, so now that I have some down time since all the parts are made and such I will sit down and finish Brothers now. I do appologize for the long wait, but I have been very busy, a Requiem Mass is not something I can pump out in 5 days and I had to put all my fun work on the side till it was done.

Also, all new requests will be looked into but I will probably do Princess Mononoke and look at some Final Fantasy 7 stuff as well per request. Ill let you know when I have a new opening for another arrangement.

Rather than make a new post to just add an update. I am about 2:46 into Brothers which is 4:24 seconds long at the moment. So I have about a minute - forty left to work on. I hope to be done soon but this is the toughest section where the whole orchestra starts coming in. But no worries, I hope to have it done soon.

Nicklagato

Ok, Brothers is done. Again, I don't put lots of bowings (if any) due to that fact most people don't do the written bowings anyway. I have submitted Brothers to Ichigo's and, as usual, will wait till they post it there and then I will post it here in the forum under its own topic.

I am going to take about 3 days off from doing any transcribing and then pick up with Grandia, followed by Princess Mononoke, then Final Fantasy VII

Nicklagato
February 11th, 2011, 05:46 am
what transcribing program do you use? or do you listen to it yourself and judge the notes for each part?

I use finale 2009 at the moment. The transcribing I do is by ear directly from the utube recording though i wish it were easier to get mp3s but the YouTube vids are enough for me to get the job done with minimum errors.

I do, do string quartet arrangements but right now i am not sure when i will be able to get to them with all the other projects on my plate including the music i have to compose that pays the bills. I will let everyone know who is following this thread when i will be available to work on new scores. Next up are Grandia main theme, princess mononoke, then maybe some final fantasy 7.

Invictus69
February 11th, 2011, 10:31 pm
if you didn't do it by ear mostly, would Finale 2009 be able to transcribe the music in any clef?

Nicklagato
February 12th, 2011, 12:08 am
Finale doesn't really auto transcribe things for you. I think the best it can do is take a midi and show you a condensed nightmare of what it SHOULD look like. I think you are looking for something like Audioscore through Sibelius that can take an MP3 and do a horrific job of writing the music out for you. No such program truly exists yet that works efficiently, I believe that the best transcription that can be done is learning some good theory, have a keyboard-piano-or instrument in concert pitch, and figure it out yourself since everything else is a pretty empty void of half-ass-ness that doesn't really work, but wants you to drop 500 bucks for it.

When I get back from my trip to Boston I was going to work on the parts so if you can wait just a week or so longer Ill pump them out so that way you have them. I'm wondering if you could make a full orchestra arrangement for the opening from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. There are actually two orchestral arrangements for the first it seems, but neither have music availible...

I'm quite aware that you mentioned only one request at a time, but I'm also wondering if you'd be able to transpose it to a string quartet arrangement while you're at it (it may have to be the shorter version though... we'll see). After all, the parts are already there; they just have to be condensed into four parts (maybe it's harder than I think...).
My current occupation aside from schoolwork is playing in a quartet and I thought that it'd be fun to play something like this.

If you're willing to do only one arrangement then that's totally fine by me.

Well, let's see what you can do.

Thanks!

Hey Nicklagato,
when you have some free time, can you transcribe an orchestral or ensemble arrangement for Procession of the spirits in spirited away?
