I'm studying film for art and I need some suggestions on what films are worth a mention. I was going through past posts and found this movie 'Koyaanisqatsi' which I haven't watched yet, but intend on seeing. I also hear 'Frida' is a good film for this topic.

I really don't have much of a clue on art in film, so could you please give me your opinion on what I should watch? It could be a movie, or a tv show or whatever, as long as it is related to film. My idea of art in film is probably something like "The House of Flying Daggers" though when I saw it was nominated for an award and the MTV awards, I'm really not sure what to think.

Here's a rather poor starter list:

The Seventh Seal (Ingmar Bergman)
Hiroshima, mon Amour
Diabolique
Solaris (The original Russian version, *not* the George Clooney version.)
Yojimbo (Akira Kurasawa)
Lisztmania (Ken Russell)

There are tons more, but those are the only ones that I can remember that fall into the "Art Film" category.

Frida is excellent . . because the art that you see relates directly to the plot and to the character development.

it was a movie about a girl.. and she suddenly has the urge to take pictures of dead things...
and slowly.. she realises her obsession and she wants to stop... but then suddenly someone keeps sending her pictures and movieclips of things dying and stuff...

and yeah... movie was crap (no offense)
