Discussion on the books, the movie, comparisons between the two, yada yada, so on and so forth.
I myself liked the books a little more than the movies. Don't get me wrong, seeing my heroes kick @$$ in live action was awesome, but the huge portions of the plot that were taken out saddened me. As a loyal fan of Elladan and Elrohir, I was dissapointed that they weren't even mentioned.
The last two or three hundred pages in my compiled version of the Lord of the Rings was the liberation of the Shire after the halfing heroes' return from Gondor. There was no mention of it in the movies axcept for Frodo's vision in Galadriel's mirror. I had a suspision that those shots may have been from an attempt Peter Jackson may have made to include the liberation in the series.
Unfortunately, I do not own the Special Edition Director's Cut, which I want very badly, so I don't know exactly what is in it. If somebody could fill me in on what they have that's not in the theater release, I would be very grateful.

I liked 'em alot...I hope to sit through all 3 extended versions in one go soon (If I can get my hands on 'em) just for the heck of it.
I really wanted to see that too, the whole frodo and his treasures and the trip back home and stuff.
Books are always better than movies (I read the spanish versions tho...ugg) but I think LOTR managed to get alot of the stuff out there in the movie, or maybe it was the believability of the uniforms and stuff that made it easier to ignore the missing aspects of the book (havent read/seen in a while).
BTW..I loved the Gimly/legolas drinking game...XD

Lol. Yeah, that was funny.
I did like the use of Elvish in the movies though. And the competition between Legolas and Gimli was pretty funny.
My copy is about four inches thick. That's becasue it's all six books, unabridged, together in one volume. In all it's unabridged glory! I fell in love with it on my first ever trip to Borders. *starry-eyed*

LMAO Okay, enough randomness.

lucky little....*mumbles*
I really enjoyed the elvish too, I would however love to see a movie about the hobbit...just the idea of the dwarves and bilbo heading out, the .... ogres were they? that they turned to stone, the dragon etc. would be real nice... but I dont think its gonna happen.
(OT: lets hope Jackson's next movie dosent flop.....HALO FTW!)

Trolls, actually. I want them to make a movie out of The Hobbit too. Hopefully with Peter Jackson at the helm. I would love to see how they did the dragon. can't remember his name right now though...

I thought they were going to make The Hobbit into a movie.
I own the extended edition for the Fellowship. I was very dissapointed that Jackson didn't include Tom Bambidillo and the Barrow Downs. I think that if he at least included the Barrow Downs, the movie wouldn't be that much of a drag.
For the alotted amount of time that Jackson did have, I'd say he did a great job. If one never read the books, he/she wouldn't have many questions about the plot. There aren't many holes in the movie which is good.

I would have liked them to say something about Gimli's gift in Lothlorien. I think that carries some significance for the future of dwarves and elves, eh? Peter Jackson did do a good job with the time he had.
I'm still a die-hard fan of the imaginary complete-with-every-scene version, though. :D On a forum on fanfiction.net, we have a list going of people who would want to see that. For some odd reason, we call it the List of DOOM. Maybe I'll dig out the link and recruit some new names...

lol i loved those movies, but at first i was kinda confused cuz a lot of women who saw the movie just wanted to see Orlando Bloom in tights O.o And they say Elves are unpopular!

Well I dont think making full movies is ...well...profitable... how many people will actualy see a 7 hour movie? You could set it up as IDK 3 movies per book...but thats paying 3 tickets for 1 movie/book...most people whould be hesitant to watch it at all. Then theres the whole DVD thing.... if an extended version cost me 20 bucks...what would a 7 hour + extended version content cost me? 60? Nobody but hardcore fans would buy it...

Consider me a hardcore fan then. :teeth:

yes but lets face it... you could probably find a couple hundred Harcore fans for everything... but its a niche market.. alas we can all still dream.
I would have liked to see Tom....he was/is cool.

I heard that Jackson wanted some instance of Tom in the movie. He planned on having a small scene of the hobbits in the Old Forest and have a sillouette of Tom singing in the background, but they never had time to add/shoot it.

Has anybody heard any news about a potential Hobbit movie?

I was just really sad they didn't make a movie of The Hobbit. That would've been pretty cool.

I think its one of the best portrayals of a book series. The HP series really sucks in terms of story. I swear the story was changed from the word go in the last installment. I think I'll have to get the DVD box set for Lord of the Rings.

I recently spend almost 12 hours watching the extended movies consecutively. Great times.
Now I'm reading the book. Great timessss :stoned:

I'd say read the books before you watch the movies. It's an exercise in imagination to have to imagine everything.
Wow, redundant sentence... Vocabulary skills just died... Lol.

I took about a month to read the whole trilogy. That is a lot of imagination.
