Hey it's really late, but think we can do a valentines day thread?
Just to talk about our plans, our wishes, our adventures, and maybe propose to have a someone as a valentine. It is really late, but hey it's worth a shot to make the thread.
The knights of M made some graphics, Porsche will post his tomorrow.
Have fun Ichigos members, and happy commercialized V-day.

Well, happy valentines day anyway!

Valentine's Day is over already for me.
But for what's worth it, here's a picture.
It's just a sketch, isn't finished yet and is taken with a cell phone cam.
So yeah, bad, bad, bad quality.
Anyways, being single rules!! *cough* But really, it isn't that bad.

Some kid in our class gave her a valentine's. It was a picture of a heart (the actual organ) and it said something like "I'm sorry for your loss" or something. It was pretty funny. FTR, she's a science teacher.

well, i'm a bit late, but this is what we did:
i got my bf an iPod nano 2GB in silver and an iCube so he can take it to work with him. i got flowers and chocolate (how typical, right?). we stayed at the Metrotown Hilton for 2 nights (he paid for the whole stay, which was also part of my gift :) ). it sucked that i had to work on Valentine's Day and on Thursday night though. It was fun. Ate some really good food, watched movies and tv. It was nice to get away from the everyday. :)

Its interesting, for most people in Australia Valentines Day isn't really a big thing. Some serious couples or maybe married couples might give each other chocolates or treat one another to a nice lunch, but as far as I know not many people make something of it. Retailers and stores certainly take notice of it, announcing valentines day bargains and gifts and the like.
It seemed like a big thing when I was younger though, now not so much. I guess it just never took off in Australia. Are there any other Australians here that have noticed this?
I've got orchestra rehearsal on valentines day anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if I forget about it. :heh:
Not trying to be a sourpuss but there isn't any noticed hype of valentines day over here.

As for me, my plans for getting a girlfriend JIT for Valentine's Day are going all according to keikaku (TL Note: keikaku means plan). I'll probably snuggle with her and watch a movie. Share some icecream. Surprise her with the chocolates I bought her at the dollar store. You know, same stuff I always do on Valentine's Day, but with a girl sitting on the side of me. GONNA BE AWESOME.

Oh, I did not mean in my own facebook's page, I meant the status updates I see in "Home" of people posting in their own pages. Sorry for the bad wording. :heh:
In another note, this day was tiring! I walked so much and in a rush. I saw lots of kids giving the SAME kind of gifts to girls. A car losing its wheel in front of me. That wheel was so lethal! I saw a man trying to rob a woman IN FRONT OF ME when we were getting in a bus. o_O Today a friend's grandmother died and a man was killed in a food court here.
I think that is all the interesting that happened around me today. Oh, and I got sand in my sneakers... and my bank told me my student account will not change even if I am not a student anymore. I have to double check that. o-o

So, I kept track of how many calories I took in this Valentine's Day...it felt like I ate normally (didn't eat any candy or anything, and ate when I felt hungry)...grand total was 4215 calories. Holy fucking shit. Either today was a comfort food day for me, or I have the most freakishly overactive metabolism ever, because I always hover right around 163 pounds. I'm gonna have to keep track of what I eat every day now, to see if today was a fluke...

I hate Valentines, can't believe there's not an old rant of mine in this thread already from 2007 when I was single, then I could quote it and be like I'm taken now and still think this see I wasn't just being bitter... oh well!
For straight couples, Valentines is just a massive exploitation of the overwhelming power of females to control males. Gay couples only bother with it in cases where one or both of them are the camp feminine type and I don't know about lesbians but would be interested to know if they bother...
It's pathetic. The one day of the year where if you're seen out alone it's blatantly because your single and anyone you're seen as a pair with is assumed to be your partner. I don't get giving flowers at all, but in particular for Valentines it's like ok is that symbolic of your love it's going to last a few days and then die? A good 90%+ of women are worried about their weight so you go and buy your girlfriend a massive box of chocolates. If you go see a movie you're boxed in among all the other couples with the same boring idea, if you go eat somewhere everywhere is running a super slow service because so many people are there. As for cooking someone a meal it's just a massive cop out like I ran out of ideas, you're going to need feeding at some point so I'll do that.
For Facebook comments, the best I saw was 'aww there's an old couple in this bar out for Valentines, it's so cute that they're still in love after all this time'.
It's like stop right there; point 1= old people are INCREDIBLY set in their routines, they're probably there because they always go out on a Monday afternoon not because it's Valentines. point 2= when they were young, Valentines wasn't nearly as commercial as it is now so they probably don't actually care. point 3= they're from a generation where it was unheard of to get divorced, also old people are more aware of death and of being alone so it may well be more of a comfort thing than actual love. point 4, and most important point, they might not even be a couple they might be old friends.
Short version= Valentines is bollocks.
End rant.
Luis
February 15th, 2011, 06:20 pm
You're kinda being childish about it don't ya think?
If a random holiday allows you to be controlled by someone you're in a relationship with... well you need to man the fuck up. Behave like freaking adults and all that. As far as the gay thing... again grow the fuck up.
As far as it being pathetic... sounds like a lot of projecting. So someone asks you if you're with someone, is it really that bad? I mean a moment of awkwardness and all but meh, joke around with it or something. You hate the association of flowers and chocolate to the holiday, lets not eat roast at christmas and stuff, cuz you know the fatties chicks might get all sad. You complain about others doing activities you yourself find enjoyable... but are annoyed because others in similar positions choose too... does it make you feel like you're not especial? awwww. Who coulda guessed during a holiday people go out...this is true for many, no reason to be especially annoyed.
Point 1. Assuming the comment was on their presence and not their behaviour while at the bar, I mean, god forbid there be loving couples out there who are old, nah its just cause thats where they hang.
Point 2. Assumption based on a semi-logical point.
Point 3. Assumptions in order to make the possibility of them...you know being happy much less likely.
Point 4. At which point they'll be like "Nah, we're not together" and move the fuck on...cause you know having some laughs with yer friends is a lot more fun than walking around all pissed once a year cause someone somewhere might think you're part of a couple when you're not.
Valentines is an excuse, NOT a reason to do something nice/special for someone. Be it expensive food and gifts, flowers etc or just...you know making an extra sandwich on yer way back to the TV for a movie marathon. If you do shit out of obligation you need to stop being such a child and take a long hard look at your relationship. If you're not in a relationship...then learn to not care, its not like you're walking around cursing every woman in her 30's on mothers day.
Short Version: Lol.

Yeah, that rant was pretty lame. = =
It's a holiday. It's for fun. It's okay to give girls chocolate once a year, even if they're worried about their weight.
It makes people happy, so there's nothing wrong with it!

You know what would really make a girl happy? Give her flowers and chocolates when it's nowhere near Valentine's day, her birthday, the anniversary of any sort, Christmas & Its Eve, New Year & Its Eve, and her personal special events.... Or at least I think that'll make her happy and your wallet... very sad.

When you do that it just show that you really have the personal interest to express your love to the other person. That your interest to give these objects is born from your feelings toward the other person and not just because is an X day that makes you feel that you NEED to give something instead of WANT.

Short version= Valentines is bollocks.
End rant.
You need to unlearn things. :(
My experience yesterday:
Saw lots of couples being all lovey-dovey. I like that. It makes me happy inside.
Saw lots of single people being visibly self-conscious about being alone. I sort of just silently give them my blessing and hope that they won't always feel that way.
As for myself? It was a day where single girls are looking to hook up with you left and right wherever you go. I don't do traditional dating, so being single on Valentines day doesn't mean anything to me. On the other hand, it's the perfect day to go out - you get to see tons of couples being all happy, and you've got tons of people who are looking to hook up with you.
Got to see a couple visibly upset with eachother on the bus home today.
Was both nice and kinda sad.
I saw a few people getting ditched. I sort of just went http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/ZeroIchigo/awesome.gif... ... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/ZeroIchigo/emot-unsmith.gif

End rant.

That's an understandable stance to take, if you're a realist. The problem is that holidays were not created for realists. They were made as a way to celebrate something for a day, by either forgetting something, remembering something, or by ceremony. Luis mostly, but didn't fully explain, that it is important sometimes just to let go of things for a day.
While I cannot personally relate to matters of homosexual relationships, I do know of several gays and lesbians that celebrate Valentines Day openly, regardless of butch tendencies. And if you are out as two singles on Valentines Day, what harm can it be for being confused as a date? I've yet to meet a person that harassed me after I corrected them on this matter — short of my friends, whom like to tease.
For women that are worried about becoming heavy: even the most strict of (healthy) diets state that you should indulge yourself every so often. Regarding flowers: if I were to actually believe what you said as true, then why do we even plant flowers in the first place? It's more about the message and the meaning of the message than the fact that it is a gift. To focus just on the Rose, there are countless stories of romance related to it: The Rose Princess, Aphrodite, Brahma, the Nightingale, the Garden of Eden, the Goddess Flora; it's quite endless. To simply state that gifting a flower only to watch it die is to ignore the allure and lore of the flower and the intension of the person giving the flower.
Facebook is always a rolling tundra of stupid discussions and meaningless chatter. It's just as easy to ignore a post on Valentines Day as it is to ignore a post on, say, No Shave November? How about "Smart, Sassy, Sophisticated Women who say "Sh*t" alot". Lots of meaningful conversations go on there :). And furthering the discussion on old people eating out on Valentines Day: Holy shit man, do you think that no one loves one another after five years of marriage? That just seemed a bit harsh to me.
Again, what I'm seeing is a distinct lack of Romanticism. Not all things are always what they first appear to be, so revising your looks and considering others wouldn't be a bad place to start ;)

My previous comment sort of implied this (except I tried to be humorous about it), but honestly, I don't really care about Valentine's Day. It's awesome if people want to celebrate it; That great, good for them. For the people who don't, that's awesome too.
Anyway, it's just another day to me. I don't pay attention to most holidays, unless they're federal holidays, since those are the one's that actually affect me.

Yesterday, one of my friend likes someone, in which he wants to give her a gift. He wants her to be his valentines. Then, he gave her lots of gifts and today... nothing really happened. It's like it never had happened... at all. Huh. Kind of strange.. guess she's not into my friend. :/
