On this thread post your thoughts on which is the best game ever made. I will stop countung submitions by the end of this summer. or early september. please post the name of the game and feel free to add comments. I will keep track of the coments myself and hopefully provide updates on which games are leading. Enjoy!
In my opinion, Tales of Symphonia is the best game ever made. But thats just me cast your votes!

Game or series? I'd say Zelda is the best series, with Ocarina of Time being the best game.

The best game ever would either be starcraft or chrono trigger. I guess you can throw in half life for fps.

Ummmm, Arcanum. =D I've played that game numerous times, and I'm still not bored yet. I love the flexibility and freedom you get when it comes to your character, and you aren't limited to certain stats. Upon leveling up, you can choose to spend your points in a wide variety of stats, skills, spells, technological disciplines, and whatnot. Gameplay itself offers a similar amount of freedom, as you're free to accept whatever quests you want and complete them however you wish. Heck, I like being able to decide whether I want to follow the "standard" line of play, or if I want to side with the baddies.

Plus, there's amazing music to boot. =D

FFX would have been a close runner-up, as the story was intriguing, and I found myself glued to that game for hours. Unfortunately, gameplay was a bit too linear (although FFX-2 wasn't the type of non-linearity I was looking for), and leveling up wasn't as flexible as I would have wished.

This thread has not grown as fast as I expecting. I have not recieved as many posts as I originally thought so I may extend the deadline for votes.

Fallout.
how can you not love the rpg classic, fighting of hordes of super mutants wearing power armour with your upgraded plasmer rifle or the minigun.
One of the early games with lots of paths, the path or light or dark. Many hours of my life were sucked away by this game

The Fallout series is amazing. I hope the new one lives up to it's pedigree. I'm not too worried though, since Bestheda(sp?) is doing it.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also qualifies

Must say that the Metal Gear Solid series are the best ever made. Gotta love 'em, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater is in my opinion the best of them yet. Pretty realistic except for the bosses. 10/10 from me.

Oh thats a tough question. It would be between either the original Kingdom Hearts(Not the second one. The first one was more of a challenge to me.), Star Ocean 3, Ocarina of time, or any Phoenix Wright game.

I do really enjoy MegaMan platform games, but the problem with them is that they don't need a plot to be played T-T. I like the plot, it's just that it's unnescisary for gameplay! Which is the fact that I don't like. Same thing about Kirby games. I like 'em, but their plot is useless. And their plots usually suck, eg. OH NOES! Where's my cake?! Must beat a whole game to get it back!
I'm going to say Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was my favourite game (I know! Big surprise, eh?). The end left me thoroughly satisfied, yet hungry to know what happens next, which has never happend before except when I finished LotR (the book).

I don't think there's one best game, nor series. It all depends on what you're looking for. If I'm looking for a story, it would be Final Fantasy, which also has great music and incredibly breath-taking worlds. However, if I'm looking for a fun game that's got some difficulty, an extensive world and an enjoyable method of travelling, Zelda all the way.

Not wrong, just shallow. Unless people start listing Halo... then it's A-OK. :)

Then again, this thread was poorly constructed in the first place.

I have a hard time saying just one game, because... I like both of the Kingdom Hearts games (I wouldn't know Final Mix from any of these when they haven't come to myc country) and I like all Final Fantasy games I played (besides X-2) and the same goes for .hack//Quarantine... and I haven't played any of these until the end (besides kingdom hearts 1) because I'm really bad at games. XD

But halo is 1337 sauce...
XD
Nah... I love the Lunar games. Eternal Blue was my favorite. Breath of Fire comes close... And sometimes I get nostalgic about the Megaman X series. Just because I like making him do Hadouken.
I think it's impossible to find older players that all have the same "favorite game"
I guess I was expecting less FFX people and more FFVII or VI people. XD

One of the best if not the best is Starcraft : Brood War.
Kickass storyline.
Balanced Gameplay.
Unique for its time [gameplay]
and its map editor makes it so versatile. People have actually made other games like Diablo and Pokemon and Pacman using the map editor. [But the best map is Diplomacy Infinity 2.6 where you take over Europe starting with only one country :)See the links in my sig xD]

That's like all other blizzard games. One of the things blizzard prides itself is on their willingness to let people mod their games. Of course that leads to deterioration in normal gameplay. Like getting wins by causing fatal errors in your opponents, since starcraft was unstable in certain graphics areas >_>

why is nobody posting the popular games?! lol, Halo 3, Super Smash Bros Melee, and World of Warcraft (WoW) all the way man

Because there's more to life then games where you shoot people with a long drawn out storyline running in the back. Melee... I like the music, but unless you get to see sonic decapitated, or pikachu stuffed with C4 while metaknight cuts snake a new one, I don't think they have a right to tamper with the old childhood favorites of mine... Unless you have tons of other people who have nothing better to do, then have at it and have fun. But then the game stays one dimensional with no real purpose... and Wow... I guess it's alright, but it's too costly and there are too many fags out there that are addicted to it to make it a passing game. It stops being a fun game when every third person thinks it's real life.

Silent Hill I think are the greatest games ever made.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Arcade game was a classic
and Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter never get old.
The Splinter Cell games are addicting too.
and Final Fantasy 7 is amazing.

The question is too broad...
There's FPS games, MMORPG, PC, Console, etc.
Well,
FPS>CS:S, COD 4: Modern Warfare
MMORPG>WoW(I don't play it)
PC> ~~~~~
Console> XBOX(360): Halo series/Playstation: Final Fantasy Series (7 and 10)
My quick opinion...didn't give too much thoughts on it ^^

Neverwinter Nights 2, imo.

There are some others that are also really good, like Phantasy Star Universe, the original Neverwinter Nights, and of course the Hobbit, but NWN2 takes the lead for me.

Call of Duty 4 wins for me....and Battlefield - Bad Company looks alright too though.

Although Crysis was a game I enjoyed...It doesn't cut it...too many stealth noobs on multiplayer which makes multiplayer suck...campaign is also not too well made.

So Call of Duty 4 for now =] (Played on a 360)

PSST!!! Choose Xenosaga!!! So far it is in the top five favorite of my games...which happen to be:

1.) Final Fantasy X(mainly because it was the first FF game I ever played:heh:)
2.) Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille Zur Macht(not the entire series because I have only partly played this one:sweat:)
3.) Final Fantasy VII
4.) Final Fantasy VIII
5.) Guitar Hero II(only reason is because I am pretty good at it...I think because I play the piano, but I guess I really don't know:heh:)

I am really surprised that nobody has listed BIOSHOCK! (If you did I'm sorry). It is the scariest game ever made! I can't even play it at night. The music adds so much of an effect to it, even happy music can be ominous. It has won a lot of awards and has an alternate ending. (My favorite part so I can play through it twice.)

Clearly the best game ever made is No More Heroes. Suda 51 is a comic genius. And the gameplay is, while repetitive, it's the good kind of repetitive.

Aren't all topics based on opinions?
On that note, all of your opinions are completely wrong, unless you named a Nintendo or Square game. You're still partly wrong if the Nintendo or Square game you named wasn't a Zelda game or Secret of Mana.

I would vote for Dota.
It is fast paced, addictive and every session is a new game.
You cannot store items but need to level up every time you search for a new match.

FF789X last games made by squaresoft. Story absorbs you making you think like youre actually the main character or hero of the game. You'll find yourself sharing the same emotion as the pixelated characters on the game with a decent amount of hours to play it. ffxiii gah 12hrs with all the ultima.. boring, FF7 requres leveling and materia, FF8 Monsters level when you level so you need to be wise when leveling your guardian force, FF9s about Magic if i remember correctly (only played trough it once) and FFX is about spheres and level grinding.
