Hello (in English this time LOL). I am a new composer and I use GarageBand. I am open to criticism. My style is generally techno, but it varies sometimes. I call this song "Landstraße II". Let me know what you think! :)

Welcome to Ichigo's!

Not being an expert of this style, I can't say much.

(But try to learn how to read sheet music. xp)

EDIT: Actually, I'll comment later.

You don't use loops, though?

It's pretty decent actually, it would fit perfectly for a menu-theme for a racing game (Perhaps that was even your intention, with the title and all..)

I like it. (being a flute player, i love the way it sounds and overlaps)
Good job!

Thanks for the feedback! I am working on another one now that I hope will turn out slightly less repetative. :) I am not sure what I will call it though.

Thanks again!

EDIT: Here it is. I call it "Electronic Autobahn." I used GarageBand again. Let me know what you think! Thanks. :)

Sorry for double-posting, but it wouldn't let me upload a file in the edit, so here it is:

The ornamental melody definately does not go with that drum-machine-generated-sounding beat.

Do you think it needs another instrument in addition to the piano, or a different beat?

Agreed. I'll just go a bit into orchestration, but it's not specific, since I know you can't read much music yet. :P Think about it: the melody is played with a "light" instrument, while you have that bangy drum beat, also, the melody isn't quite "on beat" with the drum beat. Also, the melody, at times, goes into some scale-like motion(s), which doesn't work because you're putting "fast motion" in a relatively slow bass beat.

Because it's techno-esque, I don't think orchestration skills are required.

I am working on Electronic Autobahn. It needs something other than the bass, but I'm not sure what it is. I made a new song: "Sunrise Techno." It is more electronica than techno. This one has a less intense bassline and it harmonizes slightly. I think the synths made the piano and the beat blend a bit more. Harmonization is difficult in GarageBand, especially with techno and electronica. I am learning Finale NotePad, so my songs will get better. Please share your opinion. I appreciate criticism as it makes my next song better.

Nice beat to it, I'm still listening to it after 5 minutes... ^_^

Plus I have no criticisms.... I can't do what you just did....

The harmonies in the piano are better (compared to the last one you sent me). :) I can't think of any criticisms.

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to hear that you like it! I'm still trying to fix "Electronic Autobahn." I don't like to give up on songs. School has been eating a big chunk of my time up, so the next song might not be for a while.

Landstraße II: This would go under the definition of House I think, real nice drone tune that would go nicely in a Racing game menu...

Electronic Autobahn: This desperately needs a Drum n´bass beat!
listen to some drum and base and incorporate that drum beat style

Sunrise Techno: did not care much for this one, kind of boring and oddly atonal at times. You have prooved with the other songs that you can do much better.

Why dont you try making a piano solo song?
I have no doubt you could do it!

Cheers

DUDE! Finally got around to listening to your stuff; and I must say, I love it.

Heh, although I am a lover of the "classics," I am very (musically) diverse, and techno has to be one of my favourite styles.

Great stuff, it's all on my iPod, and if they ask who it is, I'll say it's this awesome kid from Minnesota. :P

New song! The title of it is Japanese for freeway. It is the most techno of any of my songs so far. I find that this one is fun to play while driving :lilcar:

Thanks for the feedback; it's good to hear that you like my music.

Cars, Cars, Cars. Jet Turbine Techno just made me think of to be constructing a car in a video game, That is all I can say O_O; a part of, was necessary to make that loop so long?

landstrasse36

Techno is repetitive by nature. As you can see, I like cars :D

Ok you must answer me this.

"Landstraße II" <-- I heard that right now in a Commercial on T.v and is the same 100%

can you explain me that?

landstrasse36

1. they stole it
2. they made the same exact thing in garage band

I hate to get myself involved in this, but I am. I was someone who saw him compose the song... Who knows how they stole it? :\

This is interesting, the commercial music was the same 100% o_0

it is, but i cross faded the loops...do you know what the commercial is about?

Nyu001

I don't remember about what was, But I will tell you next time I see it, since when I recognized the song I looked to the tv when was ending, and saw the logo of Wal-Mart appearing.

EVERYONE, PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A WAL•MART COMMERCIAL IN SPANISH, SHOWN IN THE PUERTO RICO AREA. THANK YOU!

That is the only I could record with my mp3 since my mic is dead. The commercial is very short lol, and they don't say any word.

So both you and Wal-Mart both used loops from garageband, what's the big deal?

landstrasse36
January 1st, 2008, 08:37 pm
I edited the loops, which makes it my song. It appears from the rough audio recoding, that Wal•Mart used the raw form of the loop, and not my version, unless there was more of it before that.Just as a reminder, my work is covered under the US natural copyright laws. Also, if you need to, please contact me via PM to avoid spamming my compositions thread.

landstrasse36

This is by far, my most complex song. The loops I used have undergone major tweaking (oxymoron), so Wal•Mart cannot make something even close to being similar to this :heh:. It uses five instruments:

• Grand Piano
• Punchy Grand Piano
• Manori Stab (Synth)
• a generic beat synth
• Ithaca Vox (Synth)

Feedback is very much appriciated! ^_^

P.S. @ X: It has album art

There are many companies who use raw loops from sample libraries. Take the show "Lost" for example. They use many of EWQL's one-key-loops. It's not like WM stole it from either you or your sampler.

I never said they stole it. They used the raw form of the loop*; I added a cross-fade, which made it mine. But, they did not use my version, therefore, they did not steal it. Anything else that relates to the © issue with Landstraße II, please PM me, to avoid spamming this thread. My newest song, Ærobahn, uses more than just one loop (see my last post).

*Loop is in Garage Band library

The piano doesn't sound very well mixed into the piece - maybe you should add some more reverb and/or echo effects to it for it to fit better with the synths (or just replace it with a more synth sounding lead).

As for the piece itself, I guess it's not too bad, but maybe adding a 'B' section or adding more variation within the exisiting section would keep it more interesting.

they stole it

I never said they stole it.
This is the part where my confusion emerges.

Nyu001
January 2nd, 2008, 12:28 am
That is just something normal in peoples. You may say something and the other day you you may say another thing completely different. Its the same when you say you did something and you never in your life did it, but you think you did, Just common mistakes that happen. In this case I guess he just forgot. Anyway that doesn't matter and crap explanation, the piano in the intro don't fall very well there, improve the sound or use another and this is practically like you making another loop, Add more material and don't keep repeating the same all the time. Unless your interest is to be stuck there doing loops.

Probably it's the raw form of the loop again.... I am refining Ærobahn right now, expect a 2.0 version soon.

I am going to be a rebel and double-post in my own thread. Here is my newest song, Spykr. It's more of the techno/rock variety. I threw in some crowd noises just for fun. Tell me what you think. And yes X, it has album art.

Too much white noise, not enough fill at the beginning (8 from edge; especially at 20). The dirty guitar 808 seems to lag a bit too much when it comes in the second time. Not certain if that's a glitch of the encode or from the font, but it trips me up every time I hear it. "Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" :) The broken bass pedal feels wrong as well.

I think the drums needs a little more representation in this. It feels more like a rap/rock song rather than techno/rock song. Maybe add a live snare or stick clicks on 1-2-3 and rest on four, along with a few more varations in there. It'll add a lot more to it. Also another guitar line would be good. Techo is all about the same thing over and over again in different modulations, but rock, on the other hand, is all about change.

Grade
-25/100 : 3.0

What do you mean by white noise?

M
August 6th, 2008, 01:46 pm
White noise is basically combed TV static, similar to a cymbal in sound. 20 from the edge is where I've noticed it come in. I think that it's not balanced with the rest of the music. At 40, though, the flood bass helps level it out a bit. 1:15 is where it feels like it's properly leveled with the rest of the music, though it still seems to overpower the music too much.
