View Full Version : ONE HOUR CHALLENGE!

My piano teacher set me a challenge - just for fun, during the holidays. I had an hour and one instrument of my choice. I had to compose a piece of music for that instrument - which required no accompaniment - that lasted no more that two minutes and no less than one. I managed it - much to my surprise - and it is below. I also had to come up with the name in that hour... so it's a bit rubbish :sweatdrop: I just hope the piece isn't!
I put the challenge to all of you! Can ya do it?

o.0 I thought you said you weren't allowed to use accompaniment? Or maybe since you used the piano, accompaniment was implied?
Anyways, for one hour, that's pretty good. I loved the ending. ^^ I would never be able to do that myself. Too much stress in one hour >< and I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, so yeah, nothing from me. But how about everybody else?

I've done it, when I was actually working on a song. Writing it down, though, it what takes so much time.

Well the Piano was my chosen instrument. I'm publishing the sheet music on Sibelius.com... hopefully.
EDIT: I'm still waiting for the sheets to be accepted. I can't put a link to the file from here, sadly.

lol.... Well let's see: my first composition took me 5 months, my second 3 months, and the third is in the works... so I don't think I could do anything of the such, but I'll try...

Very nice, how I wish it had accompaniment! ^^

So do I, it was really hard not to split the part and make it a quartet piece in a couple of places. I'll probably work on having a clarinet quartet version together by next week so you'll get your wish.

I made Amid the Darkness of the Cave (http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=18851) in roughly an hour a few months ago. :) Wanted to see how fast I could make a song that still comes out nicely. :D
Of course, I don't expect feedback on this. If you want to post feedback, perhaps it is best to look up the thread of my music (entitled something like "James's Music") and post there.
EDIT: I noticed it doesn't quite meet the time requirement of a duration of 2:00 or more... oh, well. :P

One hour? Let's see... I made this one in about 45 min; it was a spur of the moment thing (I edited it, of course, later though; there were some wrong notes and stuff. Does that count?):
Sakura's Theme - Relentless Thoughts (http://www2.hawaii.edu/~yagomich/compositions/sakurastheme-relentlessthoughts.mid)
I subitted this for the first CMA, so some of you have already heard this one.
