View Full Version : Breaking the Habit

Ok, so it's obvious that everyone has a really bad habit. So I felt like creating this thread just so others could share their habits they wish to change, and get some good advice in return. Myself especially. Now rules aren't quite strict, and may be difficult, or easy. Depends on the individual.

Rules:

1)No flaming to an advise, every here is trying to help.

2)Do not plain out say "that's stupid" or "Oh my God, that's the great bad habit you have? It's so simple to fix!" That is a direct and indirect offense, and should not be posted, for all human beings have feelings. And though some may have a thick shell, it still should not be said. Some people find things hard that others find fairly simple.

3) No fiddling, and joking, this is a serious thread. This is for the benefit of those who ask for help, and to help build their confidence and intimation.

Ok, again, this is for the purpose of helping those who are in need of aide to break a certain habit(s) that they want to alter, or patch up.

Here I go! I have a real bad habit of being really lazy (isn't everybody eheheh ^.^). I'm doing really bad in high school, and it is a private school by the way. So more hard work. I have a real bad habit of slacking and playing video games rather than studying. I don't know about you guys out there that like to, but I find it rather boring, and tiring. No offense... But I really want to fix it, and go deeper into studying, for I know that is the upmost true reason I'm doing so poorly.

Any advise anyone?

Thanks,

Crimson_Dragon

I have the same bad habit. Whenever I'm faced with work I don't feel like doing, I either go to sleep or take a walk. X3

I suggest a good diet and exercise. It'll make you feel better and it'll give you more energy. At least in my case. Getting up nice and early helps too, though I usually can't find the courage to do so.

I can't be bothered to read the rules.
I give up to easily on people.
I bite my finger nails.
I'm basically an internet troll.
I chew plasic, such as pen lids.

Yet none of this I want to change :)

Crimson, try to set limits on the things you would rather be doing. I.e. only 30min-1hour of video games a day. As you get used to the system, lessen it until you're studying more. Or you could say for every 30 min I'm on the game I have to do x amount of homework. So instead of using video games as a procrastination, use them as a reward for doing what you need to be doing. You have to put in a lot of thought and effort in if you want to change something.

Heheh, I've tried that, never works. I'm stuck to the computer, I can never seem to fight the temptation. :heh:

You think waking up every morning isn't early enough? I've been wanting to sign up for Aikido (samurai martial arts) for a while now, just trying to get used to school first.

You can't just want to change, you have to be willing. If you can't fight the temptation to play a computer game, then perhaps your problem isn't playing computer games too much instead of studying. Your real problem could be not having the right priorities or enough will power. Where is playing computer games going to get you in life? Nowhere. Where is studying going to get you?

That is exactly what my parents said.... And I hate it when they lecture ><. Though it may be right partially, playing games is also a career, and people make some good money off of it. The beta testers for those whom are wondering. Plus it could lead to a life as a game desiger. Though it has very much to do with Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. But games also help the mind with logic as well, such as choosing decisions carefully. And the result of that. Though that all depends on how much you spend playing hehehe. But still, I'm still trying to reduce the amount of time on da computer. And I think it's slowly coming to. Just got keep trying to keep it at bay. I always have to get to the real world whenever I start thinking about it.

Depends what games your playing for that to be true.
When I have large amounts of homework I drop the memory cards in the safe or make sure that i'v done enough work already in the current day.

I used to come home from school and hop straight onto the PS2, then do my homework after dinner. This worked as long as there were no family or friends deciding to pop round for a little visit. you been at your type of school it wont be a problem, just try settling down after a time in the day and get all the work out of the way.

Two words: Remove temptation.

Edit:

That is exactly what my parents said....

And they are right.

And I hate it when they lecture ><.

The best intentions are oft least well met.

Though it may be right partially,

It is right, entirely.

playing games is also a career, and people make some good money off of it. The beta testers for those whom are wondering.

I'm sorry to say this, but you would do well to get your head out of those clouds.

Plus it could lead to a life as a game desiger.

Then you must have the will to learn.

But games also help the mind with logic as well, such as choosing decisions carefully.

Sure, but play in moderation.

Though that all depends on how much you spend playing hehehe.

hehehe.

I always have to get to the real world whenever I start thinking about it.

Do so sooner and more often.

She beat me to it.. Give your powercords to someone and make them hide it. Spend a week with no computer and no PS2 it'll force you to do other things. I did that once. I went boredom -> drawing -> reading -> heck I might aswell just read over the class stuff it helped alot and Im thinking of doing it again if I dont start the year on the right foot.

Also..do asmuch work as you can in class/breaks..it really does help when you look at your HW/To do list/planner/w/e and notice you've done 3 out of 5 assignments allready. Just dont see that and go "well if its only 2 I can leave it for later"

Good luck man.

Well, I used to have the same bad habit as you. I played video game or online games more than studying, but after my sister tells me that too many games are pointless and i won't learn even a single thing from it except for the graphics.(Which improves my drawing skill....somehow....or maybe. Or maybe playing games has a few advantages). When I realized that i should stop playing games and go to achieve my future, i quitted every single game and continue my study.(and drawings too)

Anyway, my advise is make your game playing time less and less. I didn't encourage you to stop game immeadietly, it's very hard to do that. Yeap, I've been trying to stop playing games for 6 years and still playing games until now, i stopped. I feel really good after stop gaming especially online games because then you won't have to be called a loser, a weakling or something which makes you angry. What I think is that those people who addicted too much in games should just change their timetable a little bit before they can show off. It's like, "YAY, I'm lvl 120, I'm stronger than you! HaHaHa!" And yet they won't learn much except improving typing skill, game skill and graphic thinking skill which can be useless to most of the studies. And if the addiction is too strong, you might lose your concentration and that will make you unable to concentrate on your studies because your mind is on the game. And the worst part is after game, there's a high posibility of that you can't sleep even if there is no school exam, because your brain is still continue working which cause you unable to sleep)

Try to make a timetable for yourself, like arranging times. You don't have to stop gaming like now, it's too difficult. It's like studying or learning, little by little, in other words, making your gaming time less and less until you stopped and you'll be free from this bad habit! XD

NOTE: This is my opinion, I hope it doesn't offend! :heh:

I have the same problem, although I see more of it as an oral fixation. Usually when I'm chewing gum or eating or even just busy I'm not biting my nails. So, I normally try keeping gum on me and I won't bite my nails. (Unless they're long. I don't mind biting my nails because when I play the piano there's not "tck tck" sound on the keyboard from my nails.)

My parents tried to dip my fingernails in something rancid so when they go to my mouth they'll taste bad and I'll want to not do it. You could try that.

If its a nervous problem try calming techniques.

Or even just be aware of the fact that you're doing it.

Well with online games like that, like MMORPGs with all the pointless high level stuff, kinda annoys me. I've never actually reached the high high levels such as that in games. Never. I always get bored after leveling so long, and it taking so long to level, I mean, I just lose interest. You just kill the same things over and over and over, and you level goes up by like a millimeter of a point.... -.-. So yeah, I go from one game to another like that if it gets to old, annoying, or just plain boring. For example.... Runescape....

True, i realized leveling up stuff is very waste of time. But MMORPGs is not the only kind of online games here, lets say for example Gunbound, Counter-Strike...all these games are depending on your skills, but not level. In my universty, i really pity for those people who use their laptop just to play counter-strike again and again. It's like they maybe skillful in this game, but what about studies? University is like tough stuff, so you can't look down on it. :think:

I'm nervous (or rather afraid, actually), but I'm still very calm - because I'm biting my nails.
I bite my nails even when I'm chewing gum too (that's really disgusting, since the nails get stuck in my gum x_x) So I have stopped chewing gum. As for being busy... I bite even more.
We have tried that to dip my fingers in som kind of badtasting thing... I kept on biting cause I got used to it when my food was tasting the same as it if I didn't kepp gloves on. x_x

Bite fingernails...hmm...Wait a sec, that's my bad habit when I was a kid!
I stopped finger biting because...it's disgusting...REALLY disgusting.

Let's imagine, you haven't taken a bath yet, you scratched your hair or scratched your back just now(or do some works like exercise), and then looked at your own fingernail when you feel want to bite and then there are a lot of black "disgusting thing" (such as dirt) inside your fingernail!(Ewww...imagine if you bite that!)

Anyway, my suggestion is you should stop right now! It's not just disgusting, but rude and unhealthy. Imagine if you bite your fingernail in front of your friend or teacher or the worst thing...in front of the audiences...(Maybe it can't be this bad), they might feel disgusted. And those 'thing' in the fingernail you bite might cause your body to be unhealthy.

If you feel that you have long fingernails which makes you feel uncomfortable and you want to make it shorter, try using the nail cutter instead of using your teeth as a "nail cutter".

That's all my suggestion.

Well, gee, I don't know about you but I bring a nail cutter around with me, and I certainly do not go trimming broken nails just anywhere, and fling the nail clippings around as if I haven't the vaguest clue as to the being of hygiene and manners. I would go over to a garbage pail, or the washroom or something. It's like makeup. You don't just stop in the middle of the canned food aisle and apply mascara. You go to the washroom or do it in your car. When in public, that is.

Yeah, right! You don't think I'm trying to stop? I've been trying for like 5 years and I still only stopped for like two months in total.
Well... I don't bite them before I washed my hands when I have, like, painted with oil or something, which is really unhealthy. And... I don't see any dirt under my nails... It's because they're so bit down I can't even scratch things. It hurts alot, but that doesn't make me stop either, because I'm usually not aware of when i bite my nails, only when I feel that it starts to hurt again if it already didn't. My friends know I try to stop and if they see I'm biting they grab my wrist and make me realise I'm biting again, or tell me I'm biting again. For a while they used to make me look at them, which meant I stopped biting cause I moved my head, but not my hand or arm, but it only resulted I didn't realise I was biting and started as soon my attention at them was gone... x_x

As for my bad habits, I'm aware of my laziness and my tendency to procrastinate everything. I also find it hard to keep up the the determination to do something over a long period of time. For example to learn all common Japanese characters.
My way of dealing with it is, especially when I try to study kanji or vocabulary, I set a goal like "5 Kanji per day" and set a specific day time at which I study them (for example on the bus I take to get to my school).

And if all fails, just drop some classes until next year. You don't have to do everything at once. Take it little by little. Pushing and stressing yourself to take so much education at once ruins your health and your life.

My bad habbit is falling for everyone thinking that their the right ones for me.

Man, my sister is like that, and every time she does, the one she picks ends up being a psycho or just plain stupid. And when she does have the right one, she dumps em...........-.-' I recommend, that you should ask close friends to help you choose the right one. If anything, with finding a relationship, DON'T, EVER, NEVER, trust your first instincts. Well, yeah maybe a little, but just enough to check him out, don't just ask about his life and what he does. You gotta ask him how he feels about different people. And see how he reacts to you in the conversation. Most people just fall in right at sight of beauty. That is never the answer to the right guy, a man as such may be a cruel beast hidden beneath a disguise. Or a double faced mask. You always, always should reach and uncover what's inside and find how he truly is. Ask your friends, and not the ones that just think "Oh, (giggle) he's hot!" No, the ones that actually have experience with men, or are married, or aren't so stuck up and act sexy all the time, no. Take it easy, as I've said in another thread, "A knot that is not complete, ends up as a thin bond, thus it is easily broken." So take it slow, and ask people close to you, and I know this might sound crazy, but ask your mom. Maybe.... they might not always be the right choice...

Depending on your relationship with your mother. But seriously, if you're falling in love all over the place, you require some immediate psychiatric help, or you have a terribly detrimental lack of judgment. Crimson Dragon provided some very insightful advice, I'd take him up on it.

Don't sin or dishonour? that way you hsve nothing to hide and so can look a person in the face @_@

what ever reason you can't look people in the face doesn't matter, people will just think your shy, some girls may even find this to be cute. It's not something that can be changed with any quick solutions. Maybe if you tried to imagin the person as a mirror.

I just recently realized I got the habit to not do my homework. @_@ I mean, I knew that I sometimes skipped it, but I checked my notebook where I write down what homework I've done and from which I use papers when I need to write something on a piece of paper for school work... I saw it was... very empty. No wonder I'm a failure at school. I failed the wordtest in English today too (I could only translate 7 out of 20 words) and I'm behind in every course I'm taking besides Japanese where I'm the only one that actually remembers the stuff we are supposed to learn.
So now I'm asking: is it wise if i do a schedule when I should do homework, when i can practise flute and when I can have fun? I have tried that once, but it was years ago and it didn't really work, but at that time I was a brilliant student that just was a bit lazy... Now I don't even realize I haven't done any homework at all... @_@ Or, is there any other way for me to, like, remeber doing my homework?

I do that quite often too.

But my common bad habit is to contantly be drawing in the middle of class usually while the teacher is talking. I can't seem to stop because the lectures are often times sooo boring.

...also sometimes when we end up having to take notes, I sometimes start to doodle on those as well. :sweat:

Wow, and I thought I was the only one doing that. Well, I instantly stopped doing that when I hit Private High School, that little sign tat says, "time to get serious" came up in my head when I did. Though, when we're not doing anything in class, like talking about some random thing, I'll start doodling. In Middle school, I was told just to listen in history class to keep from sleeping (not a difference at all, still did). But that is a pretty good idea now, because I know with notes, it's very important. Especially at the school I'm going to.... Then when all else fails, daydream.... lol yeah I know, it's a wierd idea, but it kinda works, keeps me awake, and away from drawing. But all in all, the only real advise I can give, is to be tenative.

Hahaha... XD good times. I didn't draw doodles, I draw manga or comics in the middle of the class!! Those old comic books made by me still standing on the bookshelf and watching me drawing new stuff! Watching those old comic book(Usually exercise book with only lines), made me laughed a lot and thinking how foolish am i comparing that time and me nowadays. I also know how funny and creative i am during those days, but most importantly...how UGLY AND STUPID I DRAW...Although i remembered how my friends said "It's good" and even the teachers are impressed...and then they scolded me! :heh:

One of my art nowadays... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/Megabomb/Smile.jpg)

Although nowadays I'm still drawing, i don't draw in the middle of the class anymore after entering into the university. As you know, university is not as easy as i expected! Besides, I don't have much of full time to complete even a single page for a week! (This is sad...but for the sake of my future... T_T) Well...at least I can have a holiday for 3 whole months right after this semester is finished! (which is on end of november)

Anyway, this kind of bad habit should be solved. If they really like to draw, i think they should concentrate on the notes instead of concentrating on doodles(or whatever manga and comic you called) for a while. Notes are very important. Yes, I had an experience of thinking myself so smart or something so i didn't need a note. BUT, then when test was coming, i realized notes are very important! The notes will remind about what's important, what you forgot and what you need to know during your study.(Luckily, i didn't fail...a 87 marks...phew...BUT I WANNA 90+! REALLY! T_T )

Thus, it's better to concentrate more on notes than doodles. And sometimes, when you're making notes, trying to make the notes funny so that you can remember well! Such as this...

V = IR
V = Volt
I = Current
R = Resistance
If you may find this boring...but try this!

V = IR (I AM WEASEL! I. R BABOON! From Cartoon Network)
V = Volt
I = Current
R = Resistance

And Sometimes...

Kirchoff's Law For Electric Circuit (Ketchup Anyone?)
1) Junction Rules
2) Loop Rules

Magnetic Force<--- (Too Much Star Wars...-_-")

You can even draw something memorable in your notes! This will make you smile, or laugh or maybe other emotions ESPECIALLY when you read the notes before exams. This is what i do in university. (But make sure you don't use some insults in notes...you don't want to know if you offend some people)

EDIT: I hope it's useful enough, though just an opinion.

DiogenesP
September 25th, 2007, 11:40 pm
teehee i actually do both....although i don't think that's good because i make stuff memorable in my fun classes that i can remember everything in and in my boring classes that i never pay attention in i always doodle meaningless things that make me laugh

Ever sense I took a typing class back in seventh grade, I've been "typing" whatever I hear, read, or say. I'm really just moving my fingers along with speakers or whatever it is, but it can become really distracting in school when we take notes. The worst is when I stop in the middle of a sentence to type something as I read: it makes my reading speed really slow. This would have to be my worst habit. You have serious problems.
I motion that you seek professional help from a licensed therapist.

I can only conjour up one more solution. Indulge yourself in some sort of recreation that requires the full preoccupation of your fingers. This could be one of many things, from playing the piano or some other musical instruments, or trying to solve a Rubik's Cube. The latter is more convenient to fiddle with in class. Or you could occupy yourself with trying to master those crazy pen spinning tricks, origami or whatever. I don't know. Get creative.

Conditioning like that annoys me because you're not really breaking the habit so much as using negative reinforcement to hold back the urges. People respond better to positive and it doesn't harm your body/mind so much as negative might. It works okay at young age where you don't remember the process, but at some point it either doesn't work or works too well. Besides... if you had yucky stuff on your nails, wouldn't that be weird touching things O_o;

I can't fall asleep........ XD

As for the time thing, I also have a problem of doing that, what I recommend is to divide your comp. time for the day. Maybe do all your errands and chores, then use the rest of your free time on comp. And if that goes too far, just force yourself to just stop, turn of the comp. and get some sleep. And I know this may be a hard thing to get into doing it, but if you really have faith, it'll start to become a good habit to follow. Just stop and finish whatever you're doing tomorrow, it'll always be there.... (most likely) unless it is some contest or it gets deleted for some random odd reason.

I have two ways of going off the computer: my brother tells (well, not really 'tells' but we'll keep it nice) me to go off the computer or i know that i should go off and i just go off. But my second way probably wouldn't probably work for you because you've got a habit so (this may seem kind of weird) get an alarm clock and set it at a suitable time for you to go to bed, make sure that the alarm clock is not in reach when you are at the computer so that turning it off would not be so easy. And about your other bad habit, what i usually do when I'm nervous, is i pitch and squeeze myself or my clothes or i rub my hands really hard but if you prefer biting then why don't you bite your sleeve or something like that.:)

Lol, I actually find that kinda funny myself, and I'm sorta like that, but not too serious. I think everyone is kinda like that sometimes, but more for impressing people. Though, my advise is to heheh, I know it's kinda wierd, but get a dog... Yes, get a dog... and if you already have one, then you're already one step ahead. Anyways, the reason for the dog is... as you know, there's that famous saying "man's best friend" that has been runnin round for a long time. And it is true in most ways. But onto the point, I believe that if you can form a friendly relationship, care for it, feed it, play with it, give it walks, hell, even talk to it. Then it may help you being friendly to people as well. And it doesn't even have to be a dog.. if could be a rabbit or cat, or whatever. Then maybe after that, form a special friendship with somone that isn't so sensitive, kind, and can understand your issue.

Second advise, though not sure how effective it is, is to play a PvP game. Or player versus player. Something like Halo 3 live, or some fighting game. A game in which allows you to challenge someone and show them your skills and give them your rough attitude. Just something to take your problem out on.

Basically, I believe it's all about amusement as the reason for your problem... A hobby of some sort. Maybe you can try getting into something else that blows your mind so you can work out of the habit you're into now.

Hope this helps...

Well let see, to answer your questions:
1. Out of the few that I've had, I've actually only cared about one. Which was my first- bf, we had a solid nice relationship until for about 1 yr, until- I moved. I just stopped talking to him almost completly. I don't know why I stopped. But the way I saw it, if I moved, it's time to move on you know.

2. Friends, I believe in [ppl to go out& to have fun, and such.] However real friends, no, I don't- It's really hard to look for a real friend that will help you in your time of need. For most of my life I have hung out with guys. As for now, its almost an equal ratio of guys and girls that I hang out with.

3. Parents: we've had our ups and downs as a family. I mean, who hasn't. But for the moment, we have no troubles.

But you're right, I enjoy it. Yes, it's messed up thing for me to do. But I guess I keep on doing it, cause I get this weird thrill coming at me almost everytime.

I don't think I've had.
You know, I have gone through some major changes in my life but, I usually start acting like that when I get pissed off, and I tend to take my anger out on ppl like that. appreciated by the people around me? I never thought of it that way, yet b/c those same ppl who'm I do that to, we hang out on the usual but things get alittle crazy sometimes.

Crimson_Dragon
we'll atleast I'm not the only one like that. lol.
Get a dog?
hmmm, I would love to, but too bad i'm not allowed to have pets in my apt. complex. =[
2) I'm against Halo. lol,It brainwashes ppl's minds... and I don't have an XBox260.

3) Actually you guys have been mentioning, looking back. I remember someone telling me the exact same thing. [I have been warned]

I dont mean to get personal. Your probably a real nice gal. You just need to work on your anger issues. Other then that, you dont strike me as a very Un-normal person. Just try to act out on your anger in a different way. And it sounds like its more about "playing around" to you then "revenge" or "Hatred".

@ Nelly09 - Pretty much, I think that you're a normal girl who understand yourself and others around you well, that is how you notice about your habit of pissing people off. There's nothing wrong with you...so there is no need to say that you need help in acting normal, however, you probably need to find another way to express your anger/feelings and find enjoyment in some other areas.
Anyways, i forgot to ask...what's your reason to why you want to get rid of this habit of yours?
Is it something you want done for you or for others?

The reason why,
I'm afraid to hurt someone. And when I'm usually like that, when
I have these times when I get this natural rush going thru my veins. within the last yr, I had to deal with insane drug addiction. I was really messed up, I did coke, smoked alot, abused my own prescribed vicodin.- what made me stop all of that about 6 months ago. I o/d on ecstasy, landed in the ER, almost dying of a cardiac arrest. but I made it, and right after that. I was forced to quit. and I did, I went to out-patient rehab over the summer-for 9 wks, and got help from psychologists and what not. So, I've been good since then, exept about 2 months ago, I had a small relapse. [took a joint.] but other than that its all good. But still, the thing is even though I've quit, I get these major withdrawal effects. [stage 1] and it all starts w/ the rush in my veins [stage 2] I start to get cravings, which affects my mood, which then- I take it out on ppl b/c I'm not able to act normal, and my body starts crying for drugs. And I get pissed off, so I take it out on other ppl. Which then results in my crushing ppl's hopes- bitc.y attitude. this whole process lasts about 3-5 days. it happens every now and then.

and I really wish to stop b/c I'm scared of a relapse and there has been sometimes were my body starts going crazy during those kind of times. [physically.] I start shaking and get paranoid. And also I'm afraid I might hurt myself, b/c I would and I've been close to it. And I wish not to. It's going to take a while for me to fully recover. But I wish it'll happen faster so I wouldn't have to go through this.

Wow... you didn't mention this before... though I can understand you not trying to tell anyone. I would say that you can try doing something beneficial to yourself that'll replace that urge. Something more of a extracurricular type... Maybe soccer, basketball, volleyball, something that you like that will work your body and try and eliminate any urge to pick up a joint and go into another world.

And maybe again, you can find a friend that will be willing to help you, and can take in your anger because he/she understand what your going through.

I bury myself in music.
In other words: I'm so busy with band and choir, it's pretty much the only things I can do.
And every morning I can I run a mile. [since MB ended.] I would love to join an aggressive sprt but I can't. My schedule is ridiculously packed with music events. I don't mind I love music. But Band is not always the safest place to be. It's were most of my stress comes from.

Actually this is my first time opening up about my past. It's not something I would tell ppl I really know. If I do, I'll get judged and some ppl are skeptical and maybe, just maybe if they're ppl that are full sh*t. They'll probably stop hanging out with me b/c of my past mistakes, and who knows- maybe they could just put a drug inside my drink like I've had before, and then, i'll start tripping out until I pass out, waking up the next morning not knowing what the hell has happened. Or they could just get the wrong idea, start pulling out drugs thinking I'm gonna take them. who knows, maybe I will at the wrong time.

you get the deal, I can't trust anybody when it comes regards to that.

Thank you, for all you you for listening and trying to help me out. I really appreciated. I'm just tired of going up to counselor's and seeking proffessional help only b/c they treat me like if I didn't know that they're something going on.

Ahhhh, but that is the reason this thread ever existed... For those in dire need of ridding the demons within that tempt them so to do things that they really wish not to do... Everyone in this thread is of no way going to exempt you from this society. We're all here to help each other. It is only a part of a human nature. Just as a mother deer would help its young to learn how to walk or how a mother bird would teach the hatchling how to fly... We're all here to help you spread your wings and be free again... that is all...

---------------------------

And I'm glad you've already taken action in trying to supress your past and push it from coming back to haunt you again... I truly know how it feels... And I feel you pain. Maybe... if you could ask your friends, you know, just to try it out... ask them to help you out. Tell them to help you with your issue. And if it doesn't work... then try to calm down, do a count down... or whatever... And tell people you can trust... I mean... really... trust... there are such people out there, and I'm sure they're willing to help such as we do.

With sincere sympathy...

________________

Well today I did something, that I thought I would never do...
Tonight we had our first concert.
There was Jazz Band, Orchestra, and then us. [the band.]

Jazz band was great.

Orchestra- they sucked. they played 6 songs. they were so out of tune. By the 3rd song . I couldn't help it anymore. I started busting out laughing. So many ppl from the band were looking at me weird like if, 'oooh, if mr. mac hears you ur gonna get in trouble.' but then they couldn't help it either, so their started 'silently laughing' along with me.'

The Habit here: I need to find a way to not bust out laughing when a crappy orchestra comes on stage. they shouldn't have played many songs.
I do have concert ediquate [sp?] manners..But I couldn't help it, I'm probably gonna get yelled at by the director tommorow.. crap. lol

I'm sry, I need to stop being rude to suckers. =/

CriMsoN_DraGoN, i totally agree with you... and i think you're 100% right
and Nelly09, i think you should forget about the past and whatever that had happened, as human beings we should always do the best we can at present and shouldn't live in the past. Really, not everything is what you think it is and don't let your imagination run too far about your situation.....out there there are lots of people and at least one of them will really appreciate you and care for you and who knows, they might really be able to help you in many ways.
To me, i reckon that you're a really nice person, so if i think that then I'm sure that there will also be someone else who would agree with me.
Just don't lose hope!!!:)

LOL!!! I find this habit really funny...
but actually, it's quite a common habit too,
what i usually do when i try not to laugh is i pitch myself really hard
or i would close my eyes and try to think of something else that would take my mind off
or worse, sometimes i would just sit there and hold my breath...this is when my face goes really red (i really wouldn't recommend this but it's what i do) .....but at some point i would give up and burst :D
ah....good times
but hey, Nelly09 at least you held your laugh up till the 3rd song :D

I agree with Happy smile, and CriMsoN_DraGoN. Another thing, I'd probably bust out laughing as well, if I heard an orchestra that bad. The other thing I would be thing is: Poor people probably know very well that they are out of tune, and that it was hard for them to come on stage because they knew they were bad. And I suppose that you probably should have left, and laughed outside if it were that hard to control. Another thing: Just try to put yourself in their shoes, before you start to think its funny. Put yourself in who evers shoes that your trying to crush. Its probably hard to do that if your aggravated or irritated. Yeah and, your only 16 years old... you have plenty of time to have mature, and realise, that what you lack is a understanding for people. Anyway ~ Slán agus beannacht leat

I can't seem to stop going on the computer no matter how boring it is. I have to stay in the house most of the day and going outside is not an option, I can't seem to find anything else interesting to do. I used to play lots of MMORPGs, but I realized how pointless they were, even though it helped me out a ton on my 5th grade science WASL. Lol, I believe everyone does that, there are many methods to resolve this, you could try setting a weekly schedule and/or write it down in a little planner or calender on what to do that day, and what time to do it... Also, you could list what to do on a daily basis... And if you can't do it yourself, try asking a good friend or relative to give you a little push, but not command you like a soldier or something...

Well, if that is such a serious problem for you, then you should speak with them about it... And even if it isn't, that really isn't at all how your parents should treat you... There's always time for fun, it's just that you have to limit it and make room for some important work as well. My parents are similar to yours, but my sisters and I have nagged them about how wrong it is, and they are starting to improve.., bit by bit... But you should be given time to relax from stress of work sometimes too... Talk to them about it, and if it doesn't work, ask a relative or very close friend to help you persuade them... Though, it really should be YOU to ask, for a parent's own child is more provoking than any other.

Haha!... everyone procrastinates, i remember when our class was having a discussion about procrastination our teacher mentioned some of the methods that might help you from procrastinating, one of the methods was to write what you have to do on your forehead so that everytime you meet someone or look in the mirror they will remind you about it... im not quite sure in whether my teacher was serious at that time but one day one of the students came to school with the words, 'Astronomy Assign.' on her forehead, it was hilarious but in the end she did manage to hand in her work on time. One of mine is when I swallow my chewing gum. >.< I know you shouldn't but since I was a kid I thought it was like candy and swallow it when it's about to run out of flavor. I just learned that's bad for your G track so I been trying to stop and it improved. I mean, I still swallow gum sometimes but I been mostly either avoiding gum or spit it out. I know most of you would say just spit it out but I grown so used to swallowing it, I usually hate to do so. :heh: My dad usually says, "it's just flavored rubber" and I try to think that when I try to swallow it and hope I decide to spit it out. ^_^

I have a terrible habit of carrying my pencils whenever I leave my homework to get food, supplies, or basically anything. Then, I leave my writing utensil somewhere, and when I get back to my homework, I can't remember where I put it.

Also, naps. It's become a part of my schedule, which is totally murdering my grades. ~=[

{CriMsoN_DraGoN}
May 13th, 2008, 11:55 pm
About the pencils, I recommend maybe leaving... or getting in the habit of leaving several pencils in a jar or pencil holder in that area wherever you do homework, and it's best to have a study/homework area for everything so as you have all the supplies in that one area without having to look for some.

As for naps, that is easily tied in with procrastination... it could even count as procrastinating itself actually. But it may be best to maybe go straight into studying/ doing homework right when you get home, so as you don't get the urge to just collapse on to your bed and falling asleep. And if you do find yourself napping. You should maybe set your alarm clock to a descent time in which it allows you to do all your school work, then doing whatever you desire afterwards. I actually think an alarm clock would be the best bet, though habits are hard to get out of, it's probably best to maybe find a way to get around it by doing something that will interrupt the habit.

But try the alarm clock, and if you have one, go to wal-mart or something and buy another one, but if you have one that allows for two separate times to set, then put in a time for your naps as well.

Haha, I use my cellphone alarm. No--wait. I use all SIX of my cellphone alarms and just hit snooze forever. I'd probably need to set up 200 of them and put them all over the house so I have to get up to hit snooze, which probably will make me stay awake.

Gekkeiju, I know this most likely won't be permitted within your school premises, but chewing gum may help to resolve the issue, maybe when you're going to play at a concert, or something that sparks a nervous breakdown.

Or, I know this might seem wierd... but when you wake up in the morning, try using mouthwash to sort of numb the sides of you mouth a bit, so that it may prevent you from having the urge to bite them.

:lol: It seems that there are a lot of habits that involve chewing on stuff. I wonder if it some kind of primal instinct passed down to us from our primitive ancestors who had to gnaw on mastodon bones for nutrients to survive, and thus deemed obsolete with the invention of sliced bread and Jiffy peanut butter....@_@
Anyways, my current bad habit is chewing on hair ties or ripping them apart. I know this probably doesn't sound bad, but I go through a lot of them and there are like twenty broken ones laying around everywhere. I've tried to stop but I usually don't even notice it until it's already a stretched out piece of broken rubber and clothe on the floor in front of me. I can't seem to start drinking again, stopped biting my nails a while back but still can't resist constantly playing with them.

... I bite my nails of hand and foot since I'm four or five. That made my parents very angry. I got my fingers infected several times, and I pressed them to get out the rotten blood...

Even now, I can't stop that habit. Even when I bite them to blood, I can't stop, even when I suffer with each step...

And actually, I don't want to change it. What I want to change the most in my life are my first name and my memories. But I can dream a very long time !

Sometimes I incline my weight more to my left leg when I am standing up.

^ Reviving the dead is a terrible habit.
Stopped biting my nails but now I never cut them either so they get so long and girly.

At least you can stab eyes with your nails in case of danger.

LOL. *Jab*

I have a bad habit of listening to music while doing my homework/studying. I don't it's bad since I can stay quiet this way and they make me focused into my work, but... It annoys my parent a lot. TT;;

Another habit: Just having random and idiotic spaz attack at stupid things. Example: Thinking I lost my homework, but then found out it was in my homework folder all along. TT;;

...Everyone does that. You're an artist - look up "contrapposto!"
On topic: I procrastinate away from practicing art by lecturing other people on it. XP

I am aware of that, my problem is that I do not have my pelvis (If that is the correct bone) balanced. I keep thinking that if I incline my weight to the left side I won't help me with my pelvis since that side has a higher degree than the right one. This is not noticeable unless you check me. Whenever I see I am inclining my weight to my left leg I will move it to my right leg. I have no idea if this have or no effect in the pelvis but I rather push the weight to the right leg in case that really has an effect in the pelvis. xP

Probably because your brain is telling you that there is not responsibility that require you to get up? Do you mean wake up or to get out of the bed after you are awake? lol

Ah, I see, kind of. So did your doctor tell you to keep your pelvis straight to help it out, or? It's true that leaning to one side constantly probably isn't good for you, hahah. X3

No, it's an assumption I am making about inclining my weight to that side. I have not verified it with a doctor. But in case it has a negative effect in me, making worse my pelvis, I keep myself alert whenever I see me inclining my weight to my left leg. I am always putting my weight to that side, when I put it to the right side, it is because I noticed.
