I am a relatively new composer, and want some advice. I always sit down, play about four would be measures, then get discouraged and forget it. How can I work past this and create something I can be proud of? Any advice at all would be appreciated greatly.

That's actually a good point for composers to think about.

I think the best thing you should do is to write down the ideas no matter what. Then you can come back to it later, and if you really still don't like it, scrap it. And as my composition teacher told me, a composer's most useful tool isn't manuscript paper, pencil or eraser. It's a garbage can. Just give it some time.

You should know why you're composing. If you have something in mind, like an idea, or a story or poem, or whatever, then that gives you a framework to work with. Because with a guide, it's easier to figure out the beginning, middle, and end.
