View Full Version : homeopathy and pseudoscience

I dislike homeopathy. In fact, I dislike pseudo-science in general. What would be the reason that homeopathy is so widely used and accepted? Actually, I'm not sure. Maybe people don't know anything about homeopathy and think: "Hey, you can buy it at a pharmacy so it got to work!" Just why don't people think about how ABSURD it is! What's your take on this?

I would appreciate if people watched this great video on what homeopathy is all about (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWE1tH93G9U) (it's really hilarious!) before they comment. Of course you don't need to watch the video when you already now how stupid homeopathy is (I still recommend it though! James Randi = amazing)

This almost renders your thread useless. You make it a "agree with me or you're an idiot" thread. Shame, shame, shame...

Nothing new from the nerdy guys then is it. It's the power of the mind so it can work in the way that it makes you want it to work and thus start feeling slightly better.
Too many pricks on Ichigos as usual. Just feels like people are attempting to pick fights. Jerks.
Anyway, keeping on topic. Why do you care if it works or not. not like your using it so let the users have there false hope(like how we let religious people do.)

You already know the answer: mentality of the general population.
The majority of people are unintelligent and complete utter trainwrecks.

Who's being a prick exactly? Jeez, does your grandmother use this stupid shit or something? He probably cares because it's freaking stupid, and these companies are lying to people. Do you agree with liars and thieves? Did you even watch the video? They're advertising "medicines" that protect people from antrax and radiation attacks. Is that something you can condone? Tell your grandma to stop taking pills with no active ingredients, and to invest in a radiation suit instead. She'll thank you later, when the nuke drops. ;)

Power of the mind, power of the mind. You know what works better though? Actual medicine! Then you have the power of the mind and medicine, fighting side by side!

Isn't it thanks to this that most of us are millionaires? \o/
Indeed! It is thanks to the ignorant masses that I will someday afford myself an enormous fortune! Thank you ignorant masses! Keep on being woefully stupid!

Anyway, Matt, I watched the video, and it was indeed hilarious. I kind of agree with Angelic though that this thread would be more suited for the pub; there's really no room to debate this stuff here. It's just too ridiculously stupid for anyone to agree with. XD

The usuals. yes you.
The usuals? Me?
The only two people who posted in this thread before your "you're all pricks, bawwwwww D:" comment were Matt and Angelic. I posted after that comment, so it really can't refer to me. As is often the case, you're coming off as butthurt and confused, sputtering angsty nonsense towards people who point out your pointlessly offensive posts.

nope. lots of americans do though, apparantly.
Then why did you sound so butthurt in your first post then? Are you American? Are you one of the poor idiots being tricked into buying this crap? Did I hurt your feelings?

It's what companies do. especially the big american ones.
Aye, evil Americans. Does that make it right? Are you stupid? Ah, wait...

Blame a life of final fantasy games
Don't the good guys usually win in those games?

Fuck off war hungry prick!
My joke went completely over you're head. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since your head is stuck in your ass. Push it up there a bit further; the added elevation may allow you to catch my next joke. I'll pitch the next one extra low for you!

Nope.
Then why the hell are you even in this thread?
Now I realize why my brain can't get around the fact that you're nineteen!
Heh, that was a mean post... = \

Your such a sewage pipe.
lots of FF games have a thief as an ally.
If you love fighting so much go get battered for real instead of hiding in your bedroom all day. To avoid being off topic reply in PM. i'll gladly keep mocking you :)
Your jokes suck. always.
You have an obsession with butts
It's not nonsence that I speak. it's blunt facts.
Besides. not all medication is afforable. a drug that has a slight chance of fighting cancer costs about £50k. That is not a price some people can afford, especially when the chances are not much better than the herbal drugs and similar things on topic.
You and RD so like woodworm. Matt seems to have recently lost a fight and wants to prove himself worthy at any cost, thus making him a ebate whore. not much more need be said. can i remind oyu that the main function of ichigos.com is music.

You're right, I should have made this thread in the pub. The video is self-evident. But I'm glad at least one person (namely you) understood the intention of my post.

He probably cares because it's freaking stupid, and these companies are lying to people. Do you agree with liars and thieves? Did you even watch the video? They're advertising "medicines" that protect people from antrax and radiation attacks. Is that something you can condone?

Well, concerning homeopathy that's exactly true

Do something useful such as take the people to court or go round telling everyone that the treatments won't work. Making a thread on a music website will NOT start some kind of revolutionairy uprising against them.

HanTony was put on probation. He's an example of what not to be.

Isn't it thanks to this that most of us are millionaires? \o/ As sick and twisted as it may sound, I actually have compassion for the general public.

Yes, but the chances of these particular medications working is zero. If you had watched the video, you would know that.

You and RD so like woodworm.
What does that even mean?

Matt seems to have recently lost a fight and wants to prove himself worthy at any cost, thus making him a ebate whore.
This doesn't really seem like a debate thread at all actually. This is just a discussion thread; the subject matter is too ridiculous to really debate. Matt isn't being an "ebate" whore at all.

not much more need be said. can i remind oyu that the main function of ichigos.com is music.
Yeah, we also have forums pertaining to basically everything else you'd ever want to talk about. Notice how this thread was not started in one of the music forums. ;)

Good choice. ._.

I realize how unrealistic homeopathy looks, but has anyone actually proved it wrong? I mean, if its diluted to 30x, has anyone gotten to 23x, then made 100percent sure they still got a part of the original solution up to 30x (since, past 23x you only have 1/10th of a chance to get a part of the original solution when you transfer it)? It sounds to me like they have done no actual scientific research and are just basing their statements upon probability.

I wonder how they manage to prove the theory of water memory. Seems to me like the placebo effect.

What's there to prove wrong? I mean, the calculation seems pretty obvious to me. Even if you are reeeeeally lucky and there are a few molecules left... a few molecules won't do anything. Medicine that works has to have billions of molecules.

I mean, if its diluted to 30x, has anyone gotten to 23x, then made 100percent sure they still got a part of the original solution up to 30x (since, past 23x you only have 1/10th of a chance to get a part of the original solution when you transfer it)?
What do you mean? Why should they make 100 percent sure they still got a part of the original solution left?

It sounds to me like they have done no actual scientific research and are just basing their statements upon probability.
What would you consider as actual scientific research?
The formulae this calculation is based on has of course been empirically proven and probability is part of science.

I wonder how they manage to prove the theory of water memory. Seems to me like the placebo effect.
The theory of water memory is not a scientific theory. To prove it there has to be a clear definition of what these "vibrations" that are supposedly left in the solution are. And there is not even anything of the substance left that causes these "vibrations". It just isn't science, there is no proposed mechanism by which this phenomenon works, it's only an appeal to the supernatural... so yeah, placebo effect ftw! \o/

EDIT: This video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3Z1QFZcnAi4) answers your question Asuka. :)
