Okay, so my cello A string broke, so I have to change it. The problem is, I'm not too sure how to really change a string. :heh: (before you say its retarted how I play the cello and don't know how to change a string, I was never really shown how to do it. :bleh:) I did try to figure this out myself, but I just couldn't figure it out. :heh: If anyone knows, please help a noob in need. xD

Go to a music shop or something and just ask a worker I guess. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you. :)

*knows how to string it for a violin*

I think it might be the same, there's a hole in the peg, put it in after you hooked it to the small tuners. Then start winding it up. The trick is to push in while winding.

Okay, at one end of the string there is a metal ball. You will have to fit that behind/between the fork on the end of the fine tuner. The fine tuners are at the top of the tailpiece. The one for the A string will be the far right one. I'm assuming you're facing the front of the cello and it is right-side-up...

Now the other end is bound in thread. Stick that end through the hole in the tuning peg at the top of the neck. The A string tuning peg will be the bottom right one, once again assuming it is right side up and all. Turn the peg clockwise. All the while you are doing this, hold the string taut, so the other end doesn't slip out from the fork.

If your cello sucks and the peg keeps unwinding, you might want to be careful that you push the peg inwards so that it will stay in place once tightened, otherwise you'll keep turning it wondering why in the name of Christ it keeps unraveling and the string will snap. Which is not fun.

You will have to tune it afterwards. I'm assuming you know how. Or that will be another lesson.

No, I know how to tune it. xD See, I know where everything needs to go, the problem is, the fabric on top of the A string isn't staying all the way to the right as I turn the peg, and its touching the D string. I noticed the D started to get flatter as I was turning the peg, so I think the fabric is actually getting under the D string.

How is the fabric touching the D string? why don't you take a photo of it so we can all see.

Like, when I turn the A peg, the fabric on top is getting stuck under the D string.

edit: Nvm, my teacher showed me what I was doing wrong and how to do it right. :heh:
