First of all, Hi people! First time here. ^_^
I would like to request the full version of the song "Houki Boshi" from Bleach. I can't get it out of my head, so I would like to request this for piano as well as a full band arrangement. I'm no newbie to transcribing just so you all know, it's just that well, two heads are better than one.
The full version is about 3:13 long. The one on this site (looks like it was taken from Josh's anime site) is incomplete. I will provide the in-depth tips for transcribing this song if someone replies.

I already did. His arrangement isn't the full version.
Well this is what I know so far after analyzing the song.
D major, 4/4, 155bpm. Chords: mostly Dmaj, Amaj, Bm, Gmaj.
Instruments: 2 E. Guitars (overdrive), a Bass guitar, Piano, Soft Mini Synthesizer, Tech Lead Synthesizer, Percussion, Lead Vocal and 2 other vocal accomp. Total tracks: 10. It would appear she mixed the individual tracks together in a studio.
about the guitars... just how manipulative are they? I'm hearing different variations of the way they sound in the song. I don't know any techniques you can apply to a guitar to make them sound different, so I'll ask those experts who have played an E. guitar and bass.
Another tip. Search Houki Boshi on any video sites (youtube) and watch Younha play the piano. I scrutinized her left hand and she's just playing octaves (8th notes) up and down.
I got very keen ears so trust me

if you can transcribe, why dont you complete josh's version then? The template is already there.

mmm Ok. but first, how many effects does an E. guitar/bass have? Even if I know it, how will I do this in Midi???
What do the crash cymbals sound like when played at different dynamics? besides decibels, does it change pitch when struck at different velocities?
How do I add echo and portamento in midi?
After I finish transcribing, I'll upload only the midi.

Thats the thing isn't it.... to be honest, MIDI's to me are only a simplified guide to play music sheets. They are not accurate nor are they supposed to be with techniques. Just concentrate on the sheet is whats most important.

Here's a demo of Houki Boshi (instrumental) that I sequenced in FL Studio. I only did up to measure 26, but for now tell me what you guys think so far? Effects and other nuances will be added in as soon as I figure how to work this program. If anyone knows how to use FL Studio, tell me! I got lots of questions. The instruments are only substitutes (it's so gosh darn hard to find the correct instrument in FL Studio), but the instruments I provided above should be the correct ones.
This will sound better in live performance, I would provide the arrangement if someone is willing to perform it. It would be better if someone can sing like Youhna herself. ^_^ Nothing is over-exaggerated or ridiculous in this sequence so it is possible to be performed real live.

I found a midi of the song, here's an mp3 for it too.

Here's a version of the mp3 with the clarinet taking Youhna's part. Oh yea, sorry for the crappy drums.

Did you know there is an instrumental version? Let's work together on the instrumental version first. What program did you use to sequence it?

I actually didn't make it at all. If you're referring to the mp3, I used something called Sonar 6 to make the mp3 using the midi.

That midi belongs to Josh. So you opened the midi in Sonar and replaced the Midi soundfonts with Sonar soundfonts? That sounds easy but it's way too over-exaggerated. There's too many unnecessary parts to it. Well I'll work on it on my own. Thanks anyways. I wish I knew more about the sound characteristics of a guitar/bass. That would make things easier for me. Unfortunately I play only the piano. If anyone is willing to help me with the guitar/bass part that would be appreciated.

I think that depends more on the sound font you use... it'll be difficult to simulate everything an electric guitar can do using just MIDI

If you're referring to the MIDI instrument, then no, it's just the volume that changes
How do I add echo and portamento in midi?
Echo - probably not possible, but you can simulate it by adding a separate track playing the same notes, shifted over a bit
Portamento - it's possible to do pitch bends, not sure about the specifics for the program you use though.
There's too many unnecessary parts to it.
Are you talking about my MIDI file? I'm pretty sure I left some parts out ^^;
