My friend, the composer
To start this new year off, I'll introduce this competition which the majority has chosen. This first thread will deal with registration and teams. Oh, and there will be prices, although that will be announced in the subsequent thread [Part TWO] when all the teams have been arranged.

NOTE: This thread will ONLY serve to make sure everyone gets a composer partner, aswell as registering who will participate.

Duration for this contest:

Official Start: Januray 11th
Deadline: February 29th

Rules & Guidelines for teams
1 - They will always be in 2's. No more, no less.
2 - Each composer must contribute to actual composing, not letting the other one do arrangments or orchestration soley.
3 - To participate, you must register yourself in this thread. Registered composers who don't ultimately compose anything for the deadline will lose 12 cool points, aswell as being in the receiving end of a kick provided by Mazeppa's high horse.
4 - Something I think of later.

**********************************
Howto
**********************************

Complete this field in order to register as a vacant composer.

Composer name:
Details: (What are you planning on composing? What qualities should your composer-mate have? Who do you want to team up with?)

(etc.)

Complete this field in order to register as a pre-made team.

Team #X "Team-name(voluntary)"
1st composer:
2nd composer:

(etc.)

************************************

If you first register as a vacant composer, and later find a composer to write with, your vacant post will be deleted (As soon as your team has registered).

And no, Deathraider, I didn't mean to spell theatre with an extra "r" in the previous thread.

Any questions regarding this registration (or the previous spelling drama) will be held in this thread alone, not over PM (My box is soon full again). Wrath @ you who dare mess it up.

Good Luck!

Composer name : Tianlong

As for myself, I mostly write "video game music" . Don't ask me if you want someone who can deal with a lot of complex theory and orchestration. If you want someone with creativity and average skills with production values, then maybe we could work together. I am mostly looking for someone who got skills I don't really have so you can help me advance in music creation.

Don't know if that was clear haha. I haven't listen to a lot of people's compositions here so if you'd like to team up with me than tell me ! ^_^

Edit: For orchestration I meant to say I am not really good with big orchestra thing( as writing a piece for an orchestra ) and not the orchestration itself.

Details: I'm pretty new to the whole composing thing, but I really couldn't care if you have more or less experience then me. I'm open to all types of music and try to compose as such. Not much else to say really, other then to re-iterate the fact that I'll work with anybody who is willing to put in some work.

Details: I'm planning on doing something with a unique chord progression. I'd like to have a up-building verse with a strong chorus as a basic. The instruments and the style doesn't really matter to me :)

Composer name: Arashi
Details: I'm not good at orchestration at all but if i have a partner who is into that we could combine our abilities. i like to compose for solo piano or for duetts but i'd like to try something new too. the melody is important to me and i like to work hard on melody lines and chord progressions.

Those who are registered as vacant composers should try to find a composer partner before Januray 2nd. If you don't get requests from this thread from other composers, try asking about teaming up.

*Giddy and joyous*

Anyway, the competition is shaping up to be quite the challenge with so many good teams around. Keep them coming! :)

I haven't decided. Most likely, there'll be anonymous jurors. So for the first time around, perhaps this contest will be judged by non-composers/musicians. Of course I, myself, won't know the identity of the jurors either. I'll only get the ball rolling by letting a third party set up it up :)

I have seen in other places where the composer stay as anonymous until the voting is over, so you won't know for which one you are voting until a winner is announced, The vote will go for the composition you liked without know who did it, unless you already know the style of that person or the kind of sound quality the person have. and another thing I have seen is to put a rule where members of a 1/2 weeks can't vote, just for avoid cheating of ppl that call other to join for vote for their piece. Those are things I have seen in other competitions around.

But, then the voter should tell what he voted on, so people can't abuse the fact that they're able to vote on themselves. In the end, when the names are added to the composition, we'll be able to see who voted what.

To vote for oneself is stupid and pointless, that should not be allowed. O_O

All decisions is up to Mr.Noir7 anyway.

Darkened_Angel
December 21st, 2007, 05:47 pm
Maybe a good rule would be for the participaters not to vote. But even if they did, wouldnt everyone vote for himself? there for whats the difference? This reminds me of the movie Pirates of the caribbean 3.

Im sure Noir7 will come up with a great idea. So there is no point in worrying, or arguing about it.

Milchh

It should be a rule for anyone, in anything, not to vote for yourself if you're given the chance. :\ I mean, isn't that more upbeat?

Isn't it, though? *cough*

Noir7

We've never allowed self-voting, and such an act would penalize the composer unless it was accidental and the 'voter' would inform me about it (Before getting busted, ofc.).

Voting system will be decided on later.

I know my theory relatively well, but I'm not particularily skilled at any style or genre. I work really hard though. Looking for anyone who is easy to work with and I don't care if you know any theory.

Hmm, this looks quite interesting - I think I'll give it a try if anyone's interested in teaming up with me.

Composer: Shizeet
I know some basic theory (ie, fairly standard progressions involving dominants, predominants, applied dominants, and suspensions), but I've only started using theory to compose recently. I'm pretty open to anyone really who's willing to see this to the end. Personally, I'm looking to do a relatively simple piece, with maybe a quirk or two to keep it interesting.

Lol. Seriously, though, I'm entering just for experience. I'd prefer to start a concert band piece because I've never done that before, although I have ideas. If not, I'm open to anything. I'm also open to work with anybody who's willing to. It would be helpful if you live close to my timezone (GMT -10) and have AIM because it would made things easier. If not, we could work around that problem, it's fine. =]

Details:
What are you planning on composing?
I am open to any style or a free-style, this don't mean I have a knowledge of all the genres nor to get access to all as in instrumentation or knowledge.

What qualities should your composer-mate have?
To participate and put his half. Also to at least have Finale or access to make midis formats for transfer them between us. Apart of that to know what he/she is doing, don't need to have a high experience or anything like that, just knowing what you are doing with your music in basic aspects.

What qualities should not your composer-mate have?
Lazy, dishonest, Random.

Softwares:
Finale 2006, FL Studio 6

Kind of Sounds I can provide:
Edirol Orchestra, Edirol Super Quartet, Native Instruments B4 II and some others VST and Lots of soundfonts.

Note: I get busy with things generally but this doesn't mean I can't work my part; I can spend my moments for give it good dedication. Also have in consideration that I am using Dial-up Internet, That mean I can't transfer big archives if yes they will take time to transfer.

Anyway if I am not selected have fun participating everybody!
