So today was our first concert. We played our field show and at the end we played 'Jingle Bells Forever' to lighten up the christamasy mood.

Anyways, 3 groups performed.
Jazz- they were great, I applaud them for their soloists.
Begining Orchestra- I'm sorry, but I was busting out laughing by the 3rd song, I try not to be rude.Cause I do have Excellent Concert Ediquate [sp?]. But they sucked. they were so out of tune, I'm embarrased. =/ :heh:
and then us-- we were ok I guess, we've done better.

So yeah... now that C.BAND Season is here, what songs are you guys playing and if you're having any special events/ competitions, ectect.

We don't know what were playing yet.
But so far, I know were going to have Concert Band Competitions and Sight Reading Challenges. =/

*Sigh* It's summer holidays here, so my band's finished for the year! I miss my insane musical friends already! But our usual seasons (running from about feb - june and september - november) consists of:

Old Fogies' Home (retirement village, we perform at their fate every year)
Band Camp (not really a performance, but HUGE amounts of practice for the Eisteddfod)
National Eisteddfod (one of these years we'll place in the top 2)
St John Vianneys (primary school fete)
Floriade (flower festival which showcases local musicians and drama as well)
End of Year concert (show of to the parentals)

Also, various other fetes and whatnot, depending on what's on and who hires us. There's not a lot of competitions we can compete in because they're mostly for school bands, and we're a community band. Mostly, we provide music for open days and fetes, and anywhere else you might find a small-ish wind (with the exception of the violin and the drums) orchestra playing!

Competitions? Nah. We only have concerts in college. At least in mine we do.

For this last concert we played:

Olympiada
American Tribute
Sleigh Ride

None of those pieces were that fun to perform. American Tribute doesn't give us bassoons a boring part, but I just didn't like it in the first place. Sleigh Ride, well... I had second bassoon, and... do I even have to explain?

Um. No. With very, very few exceptions, ALL second/third instrument pieces are boring, especially if you've been playing mroe than a couple years! But then, if the seconds complain, you can always get them to try and play the first part - that created amusing results, in our band at least - our seconds and thirds have a hard time reaching the first C above the stave XD In their defense, they have been playing NO-WHERE near as long as us two firsts have.

The band at my school just performed Sleigh Ride at our Christmas Concert as well. I had the sleigh bells which isn't a real hoot either.

Well, with bassoons it's a completely different case. Literally all we played (with an exception of a few times, but the the exceptions aren't that exciting either!) was quarter notes every other beat (in half time.).

*dies*

Poor you Keshi, I'd have to imagine some of the percussion parts are just as repetitive.

Some? Most. Thank God for percussion ensembles. -_-
