Woohoo, I'm back :)

Okay, so I got more inspirations from the poems I wrote during a loooooong break from composition. Something happened, so yeah. Don't want to go into details about it.

Oh, and I did say I was going to study orchestration. I never did, too much going on x_x

Guess who got PrintMusic 2008 for Christmas? =D So, I'll be posting midi's from now on unless some one asks for a score, in which case, one will need 2008 software (is NotePad 2008 available for download?).

I'm going to start with this cliché pop ballad that I wrote. ^.^

It started out as an attempt at funk, but the melody and the synths just screamed "pop ballad." (Speaking of which, is it just me, or does the melody sound like "Happy Birthday"? The chord progression for the verses also sounds familiar...)

No lyrics yet, so it's going to be titled "I Believe" for now. I think this is my third attempt at guitars/bass/piano/drum set? Well, I used a loop, so the drums don't really count, hehe. :bleh:

Don't worry, I haven't totally succumbed to contemporary music, so I'll try to see if I get inspired to write something....else. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see. :shifty:

Sounds like Summer Nights from Grease in the intro there. The chord progression and instrumentation was good in the refrain, although the melody isn't nearly as effective as one from a pop song should be :P

What can I say? It had everything a clichéd pop song should have; A simple chorus, verses and that predictable modulation near the end.

Work on your melody!

Umm, okay. Maybe "pop" was the wrong word. Maybe I was thinking of "Pop."

Nvm, we'll just leave it as a ballad. Hehe.

Okay, so I slightly worked on the melody, but it's basically still the same. I added another verse and a bridge prior to the modulation. The verse melody does get tiring; hopefully, lyrics will fix that. Maybe once I write the words, I'll get freedom to change up the melody a bit. Idk, that might be a while. I might just put this on the side and wait for inspiration for lyrics.

The sound file itself needs work; some parts don't play back properly, especially the drum set, and the crescendi and diminuendi and stuff... gahh.

I can't post mp3's, sorry. I have dial-up.

You still have to do something with the piano intro... anyone born within this century will recognize it from Grease.

Haha. Okay. I ultimately decided to keep that piano intro but disguised it with some guitar parts and a beat, hehe.

I fiddled around with the MIDI channels and voices and stuff, and I think it sounds better. It turns out that the "glock" I used before was actually just a synth voice two octaves higher than written :heh:
