Hey,

i made a new thread because this doesn't fit in my compositions thread.
i called it "arbitrary interpretations" and it contains my own interpreations of different songs. i still feel very insecure about what i'm doing and i hope that some of you can give me advice on my "art".

this first one is rather an experiment; i mixed my singing ("Voices" - Yoko Kanno) with the sound of laughing and playing children at a subway station. that sounds strange, i know, and it sounds strange, too - but somehow it's calming and has some kind of nebulous atmosphere. i didn't want the singing to perfect; i wanted to create the impression of somebody taking a walk, walking through crowds of people, walking thorugh emotions, "diving in life".

i really don't know whether it's a good idea or i just went insane. please tell me :upset:

(it's really quiet. to hear the background noise you should turn up the volume)

The only I could appreciate was your voice, I didn't hear any children. Feel free and not insecure of what you are doing, This kind of combinations have been done for different purposes. Like a good therapy for someone to get away of his/her stress, depression anxiety etc. Using sounds of nature mixed with music. The sea, Forest, Animals, Children, etc, are used. But as a good therapy this is done it can be use for other purposes and investigate different factors that can affect the human mind, emotions, brain, body, etc.

I like it. It reminds me a lot of Enya. :D

Interesting idea, but the execution is rather lacking. The recording has a lot of distortion and noise, which makes it hard to hear the already quiet background ambience. Also for some reason, everything is coming out of the left channel, which makes it disorienting to listen to, especially with headphones.

It might also be nice to add some reverb to the voice, to give a sort of more spacious and cinematic - though a rather cliched - effect.

thank you all for your comments! :)

@ landstraße: i've been compared with enya so often.. i love her so it's nice to hear that.. even if i don't believe i could ever be roughly as good as her.. but thanks a lot

@ Shizeet: i know, the quality of the recording sucks. but imagine - i recorded the singing with a fucking headset! i somehow managed to kill my micro and i don't get it fixed.. besides, i used to play-back all sounds from my computer via my stereo but the connection is broken for some reason; this is why i have to use the headset for that, too. and my recording programme (i use cubasis) doesn't work either; for that reason i had:
- open the file with the laughing children on my computer
- put the little micro of the headset close to the earphones of the headset so that i could record the sound
- sit down next to it and sing (my second recording programme has ONE AUDIO TRACK ONLY)

sorry to blather about that but it really upsets me. i want to fix all that but i don't have the time, it's so annoying!
i'll post a better recording as soon as i can but right now i have to cope with that sucky situation.
