Is it just me, or do Anime people not use shoulder rests when playing Violin? Now I personally haven't played Violin for something like 8 or 9 years now, but I still remember the basics, and remember clearly using a shoulder rest. A quick look at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoulder_rest) shows that, not everyone uses a shoulder rest, but everyone I know that plays Violin uses one, and I assume that most contemporary players also use them as well.
Does it bug other people as well, or am I just overly pedantic? :P

Shoulder Rests makes things profusely easier for beginners, but if you learn how to play a violin without one, it's a bit hard to shift back or to learn to play with one. Not to mention, a shoulder rest is not needed. It's more for a comfort thing. It's also, apparently, more "Ergonomic" on the musician to use one.

i used one, had to not use one plenty of times when i went to concerts mainly because i forgot mine and got used to it, either way i could play with or without one no real preference anymore, but i remember it was a helluva lot easier when i was first starting to have that thing and play the long pieces in concerts

How many anime shows are there that involve violins? 0.0

Hmm... Only one I can think of is Melody of Oblivion. That's kind of an obscure connection to violins though. Not to mention a really weird series. XD

i think the shoulder rests are to position the violin in the best position possible
as well as for comfort
experienced violinists dont necessarily need to use them
and i guess it looks good without the shoulder rest

i play the violin and i have never used it in my whole life.

the fact that it bugs u when people dont use it bugs me, not that it matters. heh.

to me, people should play things the way things are supposed to be played. if the shoulder hurts, but the posture is good (personally, i have not experienced the 'pain' and 'tension'... yet), it just means that the violinist has been practising for way too long and should take a break and have a kit kat, already.

darn... i hate that show. "viva viva viva viva..." omg! its such a torture to watch that nonsense. the idea of the show is good, if it excludes the Meros nonsense, which would exclude all the scenes of girls looking like they are having an orgasm when activating the nonsensical Meros power, and motorbikes going crazy. the anime storyline and implementation is lacking. i dun read mangas, so i wouldnt know abt the manga, if it exists.

They use shoulder rests in Nodame Cantabile, don't they?
Also, I always thought shoulder rests were a part of the violin; I've never seen one without a shoulder rest attached. I think the instrument actually looks better with a shoulder rest added. Asymmetry is aesthetically pleasing! :3

I love the episode of Yami no Matsuei where Hijiri Minase plays Devil's Trill, I think he uses a shoulder rest, although I would have to rewatch the episode.

evangelion has a quartet in death and rebirth. Need to check if they use shoulder rest as well. (I think they do though)
