Faves:

1. The Secret of NIMH (Don Bluth-1982-MGM/UA) IMHO the best American animated movie ever made, bar none! Don Bluth quit his job at Disney and took the better part of it's Animation department (especially in terms of quality!) with him because he (and they) felt that the term "Disney quality" was becoming an oxymoron. They made "NIMH" to show people what "animation" *really* means! :worshippy:

2. Once Upon a Forest (Charles Grosvenor-1993-20th Century Fox) Not a bad little movie. Based on characters created by Welsh writer Rae Lambert, this tale of a group of forest animals beset by an environmental disaster shows how teamwork (and a bit of pluck) can save the day.

3. A Bridge Too Far (Sir Richard Attenborough-1977-United Artists) Adapted from Cornelius Ryan's bestseller, this star-studded (Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Gene Hackman, Ryan O'Neal, etc.) film tells the story of Operation Market-Garden; the disasterous Montgomery-inspired push into Germany through the Netherlands in September, 1944. (It's 60th anniversary was this last weekend, BTW...)

4. Tora! Tora! Tora! (Richard Fleischer/Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasuka-1970-20th Century Fox) Filmed in both the U.S. and Japan by separate crews under separate directors, this surprisingly balanced account of the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor is a classic study of how the "fog of war" often starts in peacetime.

5. Inuyasha: Affections Touching across Time (Toshia Shinohara-2001-VIZ) This is actually a pretty decent love story disguised as an action-adventure movie. A next-to-invincible foe puts everybody's favorite dog-demon's love and loyalty for his friends (especially Kagome) to the test.

Other faves:

Aliens
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Cats Don't Dance
Balto
The Rescuers
The Great Mouse Detective
A Goofy Movie
Finding Nemo
Lilo & Stitch
Mulan
Windtalkers

Yep, another favorite of mine too!

Did you know that it was the basis for "A Fistful of Dollars"?

I guess that makes it a "Spaghetti Eastern"...

Donnie Darko.

It's just a great movie. Really good acting, deep story, interesting plot. It's also very genuinely sad. I can't watch it without being somewhat depressed for the next couple of days.

Let's see...

Lord of the Rings
The Last Samurai
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
Harry Potter
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (I prefer the Rebirth part because Death is mostly a recap of the series)

In my opinion, Return of the King (Lord of the Rings) is one of the best movies I've EVER seen. And The Last Samurai was just awesome. Then again, I'm just a samurai nut...

Can't think of anything else right now.

wow no one mentioned The Pianist? It's one of the most saddest story ever.

Takes place during WWII, main character (famous profession pianist and actor), who is a Chopin fan. Since he's whole family is Jew. They were controlled by the Germans because German took over the city they live in. Soon their whole family got killed except him because one of his friend helped him out, and the whole story is about him trying to hide and survive................

very touching movie
