I haven't even played piano for a year. I can read both clefs fine and well (ie. I am able to read high notes off the the top and bottom of the treble clef but not THAT high, same goes for bass clef). The thing I have most trouble with is putting the hands together (ie. I have trouble playing changing quarter notes on one hand while the other hand goes into any type of rhythm besides quarter notes or eightnotes). I was wondering if anyone could suggest music that sounds good and fulfills these conditions.

Depends on what kind of anime or other you like.

You might want to go to this thread first and then come back with specific songs to request.

I've only been playing about 7 or 8 months, so unless you don't practice enough, you should be able to play better than me. That said, the first "real" songs I played (after I got sick of Yankee Doodle and Oh Suzanna in my beginner book) were songs from Mushishi posted on Josh Aggarado's site. They didn't really give me much trouble. "Midori no Za" was the first one I learned all the way through, and I'd only been playing about 3 months at that point. So go there and check out the songs for Mushishi. They're pretty easy, and they sound great.

Also, it took a bit longer, but I finally got down his version of "Sadness and Sorrow" from Naruto. That's a good one to have under your belt for when someone wants to know "So what can you play?"

I'm working on "Lonely Man" from the late '70s Incredible Hulk (the sad 'walking away' song). I'm about 45% there... can't wait to be able to whip that one out for people on demand.

After that, onto some Final Fantasy songs... PIANO FUCKING RULES!! I have no idea why I waited until so long to start playing...

Oh, and a tip that's working great for me... Go through the sheet music and write the note under where it appears on the bar (A, B, Bb, C#, etc.). That way, you don't have to worry about which note it is when you're trying to play it.

Try Kimi to Boku, Todokanu Omoi (Gundam Seed Destiny) from josh's page. Learn the first page only because the next ones will most likely slay you.

I should know. I learned the first page right a week after I got my first keyboard/piano. :P
That is, I knew how to read music. Unless you're completely new to music, it might be hard for you.
It's been 5 months now and I feel like I haven't progress much.

EDIT: Sadness and Sorrow... I remember trying that out before. I got pass the first line and stopped because it was a bit hard. Maybe I should consider trying it now? xD

Thanks, I'm trying BT from .hack//sign and and The Name is Life from Spirited Away. I don't like to write the notes under the music unless its for my school Band. If I wrote notes, my sight reading wouldn't improve. Sadness and Sorrow was a bit hard, the version I had contained this insane 32nd/16th notes barrage in it somewhere. If you could post where you got your version, it would be nice. Thanks.

That's where I got the version I play. There's some 16th notes, but no 32nds. Just be patient and keep at it... took me about 3 months to get this 2 minute song down. Mushishi songs are here too. There's midis, so you can get an idea of how they sound.

I'm not worried about improving sight reading, as I have no plans of joining an orchestra at any point. The purpose of sheet music is just so I can get the notes into my muscle-memory. Once it's memorized, the sheets have served their purpose and are no longer needed.
