Hi everyone!! I'm kinda new here, although I've already trolled most of the "composition" forum :P.

About myself, I've 21 years old and studied piano for like 3years in a conservatory, but left and am self-teaching since nearly 6 years. (you can go to my recording webpage on espin if you'd like to hear some recordings, i've played celes from ff6 and blue fields from ff8 there Recordings (http://www.esnips.com/web/SephRec)).

Anyways, I decided to post some of my original compositions that i have created over these years:

Fist one, made like 4 years ago, when i was still a teenager:
Something Special (http://www.esnips.com/doc/2902b107-342a-4916-840b-047a5c4858c5/Something-special)

After a while (1 year +/-) Made this one: (not a waltz...)
Waltz to Sadness (http://www.esnips.com/doc/80e8656f-14d2-473c-9237-9cd4972aad38/Waltz-to-Sadness)

Followed by this little "Sketch":
Under the rain (http://www.esnips.com/doc/84e0db02-ab5b-4634-8dba-a2648ea38ce6/Under-the-rain)

And Lastly wich i completed like 1 month ago:
At last (http://www.esnips.com/doc/09560344-c06a-4406-8745-f4b2b1f9cd89/At-last)

I'm currently working on a new song, that sounds like a movie soundtrack, always for piano solo, wich is what i like to play/compose (i'll probably update this thread once i finish it, although it's a lot different from these pieces).

Sorry for the performances that aren't as good as they should, but it's because in these last 3 years I'm getting a major in Electronic Engeneering, and don't have piano where i studie, so... only on "vacations" i have time to compose/play.

Tell me what you think of these, comments would be really apreciated.

Something Special - Its very pretty ^^. You really need to work on the left hand part. Its way too repetitive.

Waltz to Sadness - again a very lovely piece. Same problem with the left hand part though.

Under the Rain - Hmm... I like the two first ones better. It still is nice though.

At last - I think this one might be the best out of the 4. And when you finaly did use a different accompany in the left hand: It was a little out of place, but I could tell where you were going with it.

Keep composing! :]

Tks for replying, I'm aware of those limitations in my music, and also tonality variation... and harmony but ^^; oh well it's hard to acomplish that imo!

My next one will have much more harmony on the right hand and some "different" stuff on left hand... hopefully it gets better! To me it sounds really nice!

Yes!!!! It reminds me of Joe Hisaishi a lot, especially in the beginning, which is a good thing :P. You should try branching out from piano because I think if you learned some orchestral composing you might be good at it. You have some really good melodic lines (one of my favorites is at 3:13). I think that Darkened_Angel is right that you could use some variations in your accompaniment styles, but I think you do a very good job of incorporating your emotions in to the piece.
(BTW, it's Promised, not Promissed)

Dude... beautiful.

There's nothing I can say to lend for constructive comments but I do have one question...

When and where can I buy a copy of your CD? (Really! Think about it!)

I seriously can't wait to hear more from you! ^_^

Thanks for the comments! They just make me want to compose even more!!

About the other musics, they're not available for download, you can just listen to them at the respective website. I have, although recieved messages saying that some people can't listen to my stuff there, and i'm thinking about changing my hosting provider... i don't exactly know where yet tho... I'll keep you updated here!

And i'm about to upload 2 more compositons that i made this week! But i'm not at home, and don't have decent recording equipment and don't want them to sound all noisy as the first ones did! They'll be up probably next week.

edit: about the cd... there's nothing planned...

Hi, i don't know if this qualifies to get here...

Improvisation 7 (http://www.esnips.com/doc/403edd40-4135-41d9-889e-e070cfb64451/Improvisation-7---on-a-really-dark-key) (dark mood improv)

Improvisation 6 (http://www.esnips.com/doc/47f6b520-f5b0-4c83-8a98-73709dbc0d7b/improv-no.6/) (light mood improv)

these are some improvisations i made (you know... on-the-fly composing while playing piano), these are the stuff i like to do while i'm sat on the piano (just pick a key and start jamming the piano), and i really enjoy doing it... i just happen to record some of them lately, so i can remember and pick up stuff for my upcoming compositions, etc.

Tell me what you think ^^

about the compositions that i said i would record... i'm still polishing them ^^;

Hey, this one reminds me a lot of Andrew Lloyd Webber in the style of melodic line and harmonization. However, the accompaniment pattern needed some variation, and it would have been nice if you had given the song a stronger form. I think your main problem with form is that you made variations on your first melody for half of the song and then kind of just had an improvisation melody for the rest; I would suggest you take your first melody line and create a one or two contrasting melodies, and then intersperse the melodies to so that you have like ABA'B'A'' or ABA'CA'' form.

Thanks for the cricticism!

One question: By accompaniment pattern you mean chord progression? (If yes, i agree. If you mean the note pattern, then i don't agree... there's like only 1 or 2 sequence of notes repeated on the left hand)

About the form... i intentionally try not to do what you just recomended... because i don't really want my music to be like that. I'm not aiming to a easy listening music, but for a rich experience that you can listen over and over again and still notice new and different stuffs every time you hear it. I use a more "strict" chord progression to make the music more confortable to the ears, even letting people guess wich chord will be played next, but surprising them with the different melodie at all times.

About the accompaniment, I was talking about how you only use arpeggios throughout the whole thing.

Form is not just for "easy listening" pieces! The best composers use intricate forms such as that to make their music great. I'm not saying you have to directly repeat what you've already played, but your song will seem so much more fulfilling and focused to the listener if it's got a concrete form with familiar material that draws the audience through the piece.

I didn't intend to say that too... I'm aware of that, it's just my point of view. I'll take that and the arpegiate stuff into consideration for further compositions. But I still think someone should have it's own unique style and not get completely guided by the "normal" rules!

Thanks a lot for the constructive cricticism. :)

You're completely right that pieces don't need to be constrained to the rules. However, usually you need to justify your breaking the rules with some serious thought as to what you want to accomplish. A song can break rules and still be focused at the same time (even a purposely 'unfocused' song is focused in that it is focused on being unfocused).

PS. I promise I'm done now.

And it's ok, i'm really enjoying the "chat"! It's been constructive. ;)

I've listened to some of your music on esnips and I like your sound. You have a unique style, which I like especially. Your improvisational skills are highly developed, especially compared to mine. I have been trying to work on improvisation for a while, but I can't seem to have a quick enough wit. I need to work on my structure and consistancy in rhythm. But yours is perfectly fine! It soothes me to listen to the improvisational pieces you have. They are simply astounding.

oh my... Thanks a lot for this wonderfull complement! ^^;

I'm really glad you like my improvisations! I'm always trying to get better, but the most important thing to have in mind is having fun and please yourself/others while your making music, at least it's what i think... If you'r not having fun or aren't pleased, other people probably won't be either! :p

What i just made after reading your comment:
improvisation 11 (http://www.esnips.com/doc/6197d1c9-d660-4a82-ad86-d03b57b2cfc8/improv11)

thanks for the inspiration! :)

Hello again! ^_^ thanks for all the awesome comments ;)

I'm here to show you a music i made the other day... this is semi-improvised, and will always be. I will (probably) never finish this song, cause i love to "play" with it. The first 2~3 minutes are the "base song" to whom i improvise all the other minutes after! ^^
(all the slight dissonant parts are on purpose, to make the original music sound even better when it finally kicks in)

This was recorded a few time ago... and my previous post i talked about this... but i finally decided to post it online!

I seriously hope you love it the way i do! ^^;

Name: So close, yet so far
Link: myspace (http://www.myspace.com/miguelluzio) (click on the name of the song) ;)

(if you don't mind, please post a comment so i can get some feedback! i always love to read all of your comments and many of them are what make me want to keep playing and composing music!)

First of all welcome to Ichigo's Forum LeenaDea! ^^

Thank you so much for you're kind words!

I pretty much learn stuff about music each day, but I'm self taught, maybe that's why :p
Since you're also pianist, if you'd like to play one of my pieces don't hesitate to ask for the sheets (either e-mail, pm or msn) I'll gladly give them!

I really like At Last. I also love piano solos, like you (I'm a pianist as well)

Well, this sort of piano music isn't really my cup of tea, but it does sound very well done. I'm pretty impressed that it's partly improvised, as it sounds pretty smooth flowing throughout, and certainly with sense of structure. I improvise a bit on the piano too, though it's usually radically different from this, essentially the diametric opposite (very jagged, disparate "stream" of ideas). Sometimes, though, I manage to get a good idea or two down and I actually end up remember or write it down and develop it into a full piece. I'm kind of curious on how you compose via "semi-improvis[ation" - would you mind going into detail about it a bit?
