is the fire emblem piece finished yet? and if it is, are you only offereing it as the conductor's score, or are you going to add the induvidual parts?

I didn't like this version of Angel We Have Heard on High. I get the idea you were trying to go for...but the way you went about it just doesn't work. You counterpoint with the clarinet just doesn't seem to work. It appears you were too afraid to write something for the clarinet out of the chord structure you chose. Don't be. The counterpoint should be more melodic then it should be harmonic. Also with your chord structure, to go for the feel you wanted, you should use more chord extensions to give it a more jazzy feel. And you should use different rhythms then just a straight swing feel. Try using more accented off beat patterns.

We'll stop there for now. Keep at it man and don't be white bread or square (bad jazz lingo FTL  )!

thanks, i really need to do something better with the clarinet in that, but i dont wanna make it too jazzy because we already have a seperate variation for that.

Wow. Your Fire Emblem piece was VERY well done, except for the transitions between songs and the ending.

Dude, this...sounds...AMAZING!!!!! I mean, I'm pretty ADD, but that requires so many different areas of attention, I just couldn't handle it! But it sounds so good! I am thoroughly impressed. This is one of the best works I've heard in a long time - especially since I live in Toledo and the best symphony music we get is at Music Under the Stars with the Toledo Symphony.
One extra side question: How in the world do you change keys in Finale NotePad? I tried doing that in the piece I'm still trying to write, but it won't let me and will change the key of the whole song instead. Can someone help me with this? I saw that tehwoodwindking changed keys in his song several times.

I really liked the short sincereness of the March Gloria Opening. The piano in this song sounds like a reprise of the Mickey Mouse March, but in it's own unique way. The woodwind makes it sound nothing like it though - that's a good thing because that means it sounds original.

what do u suggest i do

Honestly, I do not suggest anything. I think it is perfectly fine the way it is. I don't know what the other guy is talking about. That was amazing. It wasn't hardly awkward at all!

Yeah, be thankful that you can say you weren't ABLE to focus. I could focus, but I never have enough TIME to compose anything. I've tried to compose something new just today. I still have homework to do, but I'm going to try and make time to finish this tonight while it's still fresh in my mind. I hope it turns out okay.

The reason you can't change keys is because finale notepad is free and cheap lol and it won't allow u to do that and many other things. I upgraded notepad into printmusic so thats why I can change keys. If u send it to me ill have my program change the key for it and I'll send it back to u after i did it. Just tell me what measures and what keys you want.

Well... I actually tried composing today, a clarinet solo first it started with a few notes and i actually, for once, liked the way it came out. Tll me whatcha thank and if u like it or not. I wrote it for clarinet and piano, but im now working on the orchestra accompaniment and after that the band accompaniment, lol, if I have time.

Oh yeah and its yet to be named, so if u have a suggestion feel free

Ah ha ha... I'm glad you say that, because I would like you to take a look at the song I started writing recently and make it into a band composition. Since you know a whole heck of a lot more than I do about full symphony composition, you are just the person I needed to ask about this.
I wrote the basic idea for piano if you can work from just that. Some of the low harmonies are odd sounding near the beginning, but I hope that you are able to integrate them into the lower string instruments or something. Also, do whatever you please with the percussion. All I ask is that you use timpani in generosity - or however much doesn't sound too booming.

The music piece is attached here:

I think that the beginning sounds great! A couple things, though. The golden intensity that you build up to measures 17-18 is dropped when you switch the theme to the marimba. You might want to make that sharper or use the same instrument through that part with more backing it up.
I understand that it's still not finished yet, but that's one thing I would like to see happen. I also see how you're using the marimba as a base for the whole song to work off of. That's genious! ;) I guess it's hard to visualise without a base, right? lol

Lastly, when the horns and trumpets come out in the beginning, back it up some with some timpani at half beat or quarter, like BUM bum BUM bum, y'know? The whole song I planned to be full of bass and be really gutsy, so use a lot of timpani wherever you can to make it more powerful sounding, especially when you get to the end. That's like the 'victory fanfare' of the song.

Thanks a bunch for doing this for me! I could have never done this myself!

hey no prob! I usually do percussion last and yeah i am using the marimba for the base, so when its done you'll prolly have more to say about everything!
