ive seen that many people go to youtube, and yeah there's basically anything on there to see, but not so long ago ive seen that people have been teaching songs on videos(mostly popular songs.) now i was ok at what these people were doing. which would be trying to get people musically inclined. what i dont like about the idea is that more and more songs are just being, you can say, slapped in the face by what people have done. yeah, its ok to teach someone a song, but its not ok to try to teach people whio would just go ahead and mess up what learning a musically instrument to its full extent.
so what i would like to know is what everyone else here feels about learning songs on youtube, how you feel about it, so on and so forth....

i think learning music on youtube
is like learning to Ride a Bike by reading the instruction manual
it just wouldnt be the same compared to being taught by an Actual person who knows
but you can try if you want

If all you really want from your instrument is to be able to play a few simple tunes then youtube is an effective way to learn since it's free and most self taught people like to play by memory instead of learning from sheets.

You can't learn how to play an instrument purely from watching people on YouTube.

I find that you can if you keep watching just a little bit then running to instrument to mimic what you watched.

Certain people on YouTube actually teach instruments from scratch.
I don't know the extent of their teaching or effectiveness since I have not viewed them, but it seems the general population appreciate it.

I know a friend who learns songs on YouTube. I can't do it though. Pretty tedious if you ask me. If you can find a friend, or a parent or some other person willing to teach you, or if you can afford a professional teacher I would advise that over YouTube. You can use Youtube as a place to learn paticular songs or a couple of tricks, but learning the instrument from scratch would be pretty difficult.

Well, you know what they say about advice; its only worth as much as you pay for it. xD That is not always true, but you can count on it most of the time.

I would advise people who would want to play simple pieces on the piano, but I would strongly NOT recommend you 'learn' an instrument from YouTube. Sure, they can explain how to play it and everything, but in the end you can't ask questions and they (the person giving the tutorial) cannot see how you are playing.
Quite simply, if you do want to actually play an instrument, I would get a teacher. You have to keep remembering to what extent to you want to play. If you want to play pop-music, then the idea of a 'professional-teacher' is moronic; go to some music store in town, and sign up for a group class or some of the teachers which rent rooms in those places.
YouTube: Good for fun little thingies, bad for "actually playing"
