I just got back from seeing this film and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was hardly anything like what I expected it to be. I was thinking it would follow something similar to that of a Horror Film, but it was more like a Dramatic film commenting on the constraints of contemporary society.

I will leave further thoughts after people have expressed their opinions.

God, can you say Chick Flick, When I went to this movie I was expect something to scare the living crap out of me, but it turned out to be nothing but a DRAMA, why label something a HORROR when it has nothign to do with this, gee would be like labeling a movie like Dude Wheres My Car: which was completely awful, a SERIOUS movie. But, really it wasnt that bad of a movie, but just wasnt what I expected at the time, im sure if i saw it at a different time and with different people I wouldve been enthralled by it..

So just because something is drama it's automatically a chick flick?

Anyway, the movie was really bad. The first half showed potential, but once the "plot twist" was revealed, it lost all of its suspense. The plot twist itself was incredibly predictable, and I would have figured it out if I didn't hope for the movie to take a different direction.

My verdict: Waste of Sigourney Weaver.

How was Sigourney Weaver in it? I've found she's a good enough actress to usually make a movie worth watching just to see her in it (like Alien: Resurrection) and I was wondering if that was the case here.

I liked the plot twist, but I thought the first 90% of the movie was drawn out too much

I have a theory to counter that, because I had the exact same question.

After seeing the movie I felt that character Ivy was made blind for a specific reason. After the first half of the film, the main character shifted from Lucious Hunt to that of Ivy Walker. I think, after this shift, the audience assumed the perspective of Ivy and in doing so, in a sense were SEEING what Ivy was HEARING. I believe that there was something else in the woods such as a Bear or another fairly large creature. When she is attacked in the woods the first time near the tree and it runs at her, it growls fairly loudly. She manages to run off and looses her trail. My theory is that this was a Bear. It stood still frequently and only moved when Ivy moved. Also, we see the Creature in the hood with claws specifically because Ivy was brought up in The Village where tales were told about the creature and it had been most likely described to her. When she hears the growl, in her mind she pictures the Creature.

After she looses its tail, the second time the Creature appears it is Noah. WHY? It does not make a growl at all and it runs straight up to her. We can assume Noah recognised it was her and got excitied and ran towards her when he noticed her.

This theory also corrects the beginning of the film where loud growls are heard in the forest and Noah is sitting at the table and starts clapping. Remember, this is just a theory that I made up, however I wouldn't be suprised if the movie required such in depth thinking to make full sense of it, because it is a M. Night Shyamalan film.

I hope that makes a kind of sense. And in regards to it being a chick flick, I totally disagree. The romance was highly overplayed, but it gave the movie a motive and also Ivy a motive in a sense, to unravel the secrets and lies surrounding The Village.

I think so. But I think the length of my post prior to this would discourage people to read it anyway.

Apparently someone's more afraid of periods than he is of monsters in the woods.

Anyway, the movie was very pretty. But, I wish that he would just make a movie. He should have enough confidence that he doesn't feel like he has to have a twist in his movies. Just make a movie.

When I went to see this movie, I was expecting something scarey. The first half had me liking it and wanting more...the second half...made me want to walk out of the theater. I wasted those $7 totally. The ending was "teh suck" and I saw that plot twist *SPOILERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

Of where she walked out onto the road. I totally saw that one coming.

It was extremely different to my preconception of what I thought it would be but I thought the twist was cleverly crafted. I myself, did not see it coming at all.

Ivy was a wicked actor and I hope to see more of her.
