I just came back from watching the best movie I think will be released this year. Hero is really just excellent in all respects. First off, like any Asian film it's extrememly beautiful. Some of the scenes are just jaw-dropping in their use of colour and lighting. Speaking of colour, it plays a very vital role and is very effective. I've only seen the use of colour to enhance the story done better in one movie.

As for the story itself, it keeps you constantly guessing and trying to discover the truth. It has a heavy moral message (like many different films) but presents it in an interesting way that is never heavy handed. The fight scenes are brilliant but what I especially liked was that the scenes that were presented as fact were actually possible, maybe not plausible but possible.

I'd be interested in hearing what other people thought of the movie but I'm not expecting anyone to dislike it as this is a slightly anime oriented community. The only real complaint I would have about it is it could be a bit of a culture shock for anyone who hasn't really been exposed to it before.

I really liked this movie. It was as if art had come to life. The style and the grace of it was mesmorizing. Fight scenes had a purpose and a flow, it wasn't about the action at all. All the symbolisms and metaphors, it's wonderful . . .

Definitely, I think my favourite part was in the fight scene with Moon and Snow. You could tell snow really didn't want to fight but moon wouldn't stop. The emotion was extremely raw. I don't even know how to describe the art direction in this movie, it was just perfect.

Also, it should be noted that I usually hate martial arts movies but as Alphonse says, the fights, and consequently the movie, aren't about the action, they're really just the means to an end.

I liked it, but it wasn't the best movie I've seen. Although, I think it was the best asian film I've seen.

I'm not sure it was really better than Lord of the Rings. Then again, Lord of the Rings was made for a Western audience and could be tailored to their tastes. Hero was made for an Eastern society audience and doesn't suit Western tastes as much. Luckily they kept down the extended melodrama but what was there was enough to make it slightly worse than LotR. It was more visually stunning than LotR though and that's an achievement.

In my opinion this movie is way better than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
1: This movie has less of those FLYING on top of roof thing, and fighters flying everywhere

2: WAY better story line than crouching tiger hidden dragon.

3: Better effects too, like the massive arrows and the massive army.

4: Fighting is more real kinda

Hero was absolutely visually stunning. The story wasn't as good as CTHD, but still excellent.

The movie was sooo pretty...

I also loved the fight between Moon and Flying Snow in the grove. The leaves whirling everywhere and stuff... that rocked.

There were tears in my eyes at the end. Is that a bad thing? o.o

And I get why the girl's name is Moon. The swords on her back formed a crescent moon shape... I think that's why she's named Moon, anyway.

heh.. i heard heaps of people were not satisfied with this movie... due to the chinese history which the movie is based on being inaccurate... making someone evil seem good.. those kind of thing...

I don't know... I agree that Hero is better than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon though~ but what is with the ending... >< that was so....

not going to spoil anything...

It did seem a bit of a propaganda film for the Chinese government but look at all the other works by this director. Most of the time his films are banned because they don't fit in with the history presented by the Chinese government. I think he probably just wanted a successful movie so he gave up fighting it, everyone's entitled to a little success. Either way I think the message that's there is still worth showing even if it's a little inaccurate.
