I think it's safe to say that Lord of the Rings is one of the most influential cinematic achievement of our time and probably one of the most worthy discussion topics. I won't bother expressing my own opinions yet but I'm sure almost everyone has seen these movies so it should be a lively discussion.

I saw the films and I read the books. The books are more detailled but the films certainly aren't bad, as some people say (OMG LOTR SUCKS CUZ ITS NOT TRUE TO THE BOOKS!~~!! OMG). I like the books, I like the films, and I see little use comparing the two since they are just whole different kinds of telling a story.

I also have this book here, a Tolkien Bestiary, which has awesome information about pretty much anything in the Tolkien universe. It's great =]

Oops, back on the subject of the films. I really enjoyed them, they are good films in my opinion and I just love the special effects. The story which it is based upon is a very solid story and that makes the plot of the film quite decent, naturally.

Oh, and if I have to compare to the books anyway, they should have left out the stupid romance between Arwen and Aragorn, and put in the part where Saruman comes to the Shire.

I would have liked to see the Battle of the Fords, and a few other interesting battles that happened in Rohan. Otherwise, not bad movies. I have them all on DVD.

I can't wait for the extended edition of RotK... it's over 4 hours!

Another extra hour in which they say goodbye to each other XP

I want it just for that extra Saruman scene. I don't think it will be quite as good as the extended edition of Fellowship but it should be worth buying.

I have the extended edition of the Fellowship and that's too long for me to watch all at once. I don't know how I'm going to sit and watc over four hours of RotK. XD

I do like the movie a lot. I think that the did a good job with casting the characters, especially Sam. Sean Astin is a very good actor. Angelics right about Aragorn and Arwen, just leave it out. Put in the 'Scouring of the Shire' instead.

If you are talking about the Scouring of the Shire, the extended edition won't have it. Peter Jackson said in one of the the two towers specials that he didn't understand why Tolkien tacked it on the end, adn that he was not going to include it. Granted, he might have changed his mind in the past few years, but don't expect it.

Personally I think it's just fine without it, I'm glad it's in the books but it just wouldn't work added to the end of a movie.

Well, I'm not quite sure which of the two remaining Saruman scenes it would be. I know he said that there was one they shot but never put into the film but was supposed to end "The two towers" and another that he didn't like so he didn't bother writing at all. I heard somewhere that the former scene would be included (I thought it was supposed to take place inside the tower) but I'm not sure how official that statement was.

Well, I personally prefer the movies to the books. The books have a lot more description, and while I'm all for description, I think there's a little TOO much and prefer the movies. I wish they'd left Tom Bombadill in though. He was my favourite character in the books! Anyway, I agree that the ending of RoTK did drag on a little, but I still think it was a great movie, and made a good ending to the trilogy.

Lord of the Rings was a good saga, I liked the action scenes a lot, but....I felt the enemies needed to be more.......smart. That always annoys me, when enemies just stand around and watch his comrades getting the crap beaten out of them. Now while the enemies here didn't stand around, they still didn't...use their brains much(as little as it was).

Of course, the movie still had loads of action, good music, great scenary, and was very good. I guess I'm just too much of a person that likes more realistical ideas and such.

I heard that Peter Jackson was thinking about putting Tom in but it would have made it way too long. Too bad, I like Tom, and the Barrow Wights was my favorite part in the first book.

Lets make this thread an oped disscusion for all of the LotR and friend books and movies.

Tolkens son just finished a project that is almsot 100 years in the making. The Tales of the Children of Horuin was an unfishished book by Tolken senoir and his son [who also finished the Silmarillion] just finished it after 30 years of working on the book. Huzza!

I liked the movies but i dont like how in the first one when he Gandalf is on the tower, they dont tell you where the eagle came from. All you see is him doing something to a moth thing and then jummping of onto the eagle.WTF!

The moth was and is the eagle. Gandolf is loved by the animal/plant spirits/gods [what ever you perfer to call them] because of his ways. Be it the horses, the eagles or the ents, they look up to Gandolf like he is the god of gods, so they help him and his friends.

I'm wondering if anyone else besides me has read the Silmarillion, and what they think about it. Although....that's a bit off topic....eeh. I wish I had gotten to see all of the movies in the theater! I was just discovering LOTR when Return of the King came out, so that's the only one I saw on the big screen...:( I am a HUGE fan of both the books and the movies. I made my bedroom to look like Bag End!

What? For some reason I don't think that's the case. I'll find it in the books and get back on that one. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Hobbit. I'll have to look it up.

Are you sure? Because thats what I remember from the book.

Look ahead Sond, my brother has the only copy in the house and I doubt he will let me touch it....
