How about Arc the Lad? Those were fun. Or Ogre Battle? I think they're all available on PS1.

Tactics ogre, Knights of Lodis is a good yet lesser known game.

If you go into DS, the only one I can recall at the moment that hasn't already been mentioned is Luminous Arc, and its sequal.

I know halo wars for xbox 360 is supposed to come out this july, and I'm pretty sure that would be considered a tactics game, seeing as its an RTS.... :P

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced :\

Though that's more like FFT 1.5

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is more like Disgaea without the story, the fun or character development.

And it's utterly boring.

are we really going to start that argument again?

I downloaded the command and conquer 3 demo today, and that's a pretty decent game if you need a fun RTS. ^^

What argument? Or are we all to blindly agree with your opinion without being able to discuss what others might think? You do realize forums are for discussing a variety of topics?

Yggdra Union is the only srpg you need to play!!!

Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis is also recommended. Stay away from FFTA and FFTA2 like the plague

Indeed.

Games that carry the name "Final Fantasy" (un)surprisingly fail since.. well sometime during playstation. Don't see how or why, but it managed to crap out FFT enough as well, even though Square bought out the original Tactics Ogre team to make it. (Suuuuuuuuuuuure if you reckon that FFT/A was the best SRPG you've picked up the genre too late.. just like FFVII fans saying they love RPG.)

Conclusion:

Tactics Ogre (SNES/PS) and Tactics Ogre : Knight of Lodis (GBA). Not knowing these two and claiming love for SRPG genre is like not knowing Poker and claiming mastery of all card games.

Disgaea, La pucelle, Phantom (kingdom, brave, etc) = Nipponichi games. 'Hardcore'. Finishing the story takes 15~20 hrs. Killing the 'last' last boss takes 500.

Idea Factory games (Spectral souls, Blazing souls, etc) rather hardcore like Nipponichi, but also with very 'grand' and confusing plots that're better to laugh at than to understand.

More obscure series and games which are just as good as these omitted due to lack of English versions

I just downloaded the endwar demo. I have to say, that is going to be THE best TPS (third person shooter) game for the holiday season. You can actually say "unit 3 secure alpha" and that building will be secured! No more messing around with buttons! XD I'm glad a tactics game is finally using voice control over buttons...having to memorize a bunch of controls is why I'm so bad at command and conquer. :heh:

Off the top of my head:

Final Fantasy Tactics
Fire Emblem
Disgaea, Phantom Brave
Advance Wars
Robot Wars
SD Gundam G Generation
