I need to write an overture for music composition, any idea's how they go? (My band teacher is out today so I can't ask her.) Like what are they made up of? ABA? ABACA? Any help is appreciated. :heh:

When I hear the word "Overture" I think of a little bit of everthing. For example first you would have fast-paced section and then move into a slow and tender section and after that either move to another movement or go back to the first section. Also I always like to end in a minor key, or at least that's what I like to hear. I hope this helps a little.

Well, what is it the overture to? In an overture to an opera or musical, for example, the overture would incorporate pieces of other songs from throughout the rest of the work. For example, listen to the overture to the Barber of Seville; it incorporates pieces of songs from throughout the entire opera.

Yes, its to a musical/Opera. Sorry, should have mentioned that before, however, thanks for the help. :)
