View Full Version : An audition piece with tricks?

Basically, I just got this piece (Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony, 4th Movement (Symphony #5): see attachment) for orchestral auditions, and I'm starting to wonder about some things:

1. On the first page, it says "in C." I suppose I need to transpose, no? Hence, I see that there are a bunch of transposition markings above notes...
2. On the first page, I'm wondering about the measure with the second "Eb" marking on it (in other words, 8 measures before the Allegro Vivace 6/8 section). Beats 2 & 3 have two D naturals, but are they slurred, or tied? If tied, I don't understand why there couldn't just be a half note.

xD Sorry, but this is my first orchestral audition, so I'm just being cautious...

Thank you for any help...

Im not sure about the transposition part of your question, can you not ask the people your auditioning for, or find a recording or something..?

anyway, as for the d naturals i think they should be played tied but its written like that because of some rule about not beaming across the middle of the bar in 4/4.

But dont quote me on that, I may just be wrong, it may be typo. Again, probably find a recording of it to be sure.

Now I read back what I wrote, I notice I probably havent helped much at all, but, maybe it'll help a little.

Good Luck =]

I'm pretty sure the two D naturals are tied. =]
