so i'm restarting. i finished one song last year. i have a new one done as well along with another work in progress. now behold. comments are welcome as is criticism.
No. 1 is an old song from last year. my first composition ever.
No. 6 is my second completed song. tell me what you think of that one.
No. 8 is definitely a work in progress. i'm kinda stumped on lyrics. wanna throw me a bone there?

I luved ur composition acerbus somnium theme it has the most georgious melody although i think u shouldve kept the bass line more consistant a very nice peice i would love to orchestrate it for u into a full band peice

All of your songs need to make more use of the lower registers of some of the instruments, especially the piano; all of your songs seem really empty because they lack that lower register. Furthermore, "Winter" is extremely random and unfocused both in harmony (although only in some places) and especially in melody. It needs to be much better formulated. Lastly, in Acerbus Somnium, I agree with tehwoodwindking that your bass line has some awkward moments.

yeah, i'll agree that basslines are one of my weaker areas ><
i was too lazy to trash what i had and write up a new bassline, so i just took the left hand down an octave. but it feels more like a harmony than a bassline to me. what do you think? should i leave it at this new lower pitch or bring it back up an octave like i originally had?

Even an octave lower it is not strong enough as a bass line. Futhermore, you need do pedal lifts frequently because right now the harmonies all sound muddy. You need to sing through the melody line and make sure that the word emphasis makes sense. BTW, "there" is only one syllable.

harmonies sound muddy...gotcha. i've seen pedal lifts or whatever they're called written as brackets before on sheet music i've bought from music stores. is there a way to write that in finale?

Yes, but I've never been able to get that to play back. The way that I always do it is by selecting the * articulation, which is the same thing.

I tried to give u an example of how to create bass lines so i arranged acerbus somnium theme for stringed orchestra and piano (its actually optional orchestra or optional piano theyre both the complete song) so u can still play it on the piano i hope u learn something about bass lines from this.
P.S. I actually did it because i luved the melody!
