I got Finale notepad in around october of this year and composed a couple of short pieces back then, and they all seem to be a little repetitive, but I wanted to share them with you and see any of your thoughts on them.

One was a serious piece I had to do for a class in school. For class elective sign ups I put art and got put in a random class called Music Technology but I've been in it this whole year and making a piece on finale was one of the projects. I made a piece in binary form for an ocarina and a piano.

The only serious one is the first one, the piece I did for school. The rest are all short little clips.

Anyways here are the titles~

Untitled (titled as 'eriks piece') - This is a piece for the ocarina and the piano, probably my best one so I don't know why I'm putting it first. This was a project for school, but I really like it. It's binary form, and I was wondering your thoughts on this, and if you think the B form is too different from the A form to be like a song?

Medieval Recurrence - This is a VERY catchy piece I made, very very repetitive

Memories of a Wood - This is a very nice piece, I personally like it. Its more beautiful than fun.

Joyous Stream - The first piece I did on Finale Notepad, short and repetitive synth part x~x, but its a happy song!

Elven Rummage - Another short piece I did, somewhat repetitive, and I DESPISE the ending, please disregard it that's not how I wanted it to sound, but this is a bouncy nice song!

I have a couple more, but none of them seem even worth posting. I'd be ecstatic if some of you actually listened to each one and analyzed them~

If you want to hear some of the others just let me know~

I also am working on some, and I'm going to get ready to make a big one again like my project.

Congrats if you read this all ^^

I have a question: is the tempo on the last one supposed to be at 999? I love the chords in the beginning of "Erik's Piece" by the way. I hope you add more to these pieces to expand them because some of the ideas I thought were great.

We still have not reached October this year! little mistake there.

Is possible to do a midi file from finale notepad? I can't open the .MUS and I have an old version of Finale.

And welcome. :)

And yes, I meant of this year meaning of this school year xD

Yeah I think I might be able to get the midi files from .MUS files but beware they sound very bad in MIDI format. I'll get them up :D

And no Dx It wasn't supposed to be a 999 haha!

The first song needs more substance. I liked where you were going with parts of the melody; it reminded me of some of the good jazzy solos from musicals This makes me think that you should develop it into a vocal melody instead of an ocarina one.The second piece does indeed have a medival feel in that it has a modal feel. However, I think it has the same problem in the first in that there is very little substance to the piece. Furthermore, the bassoon part is both boring and totally impossible to play (seeing as wind instruments can only play one note at a time). I would work on that. I would also like to see the piccolo melody smoothed out a tad bit.

I like the ambient feel of Memories of a Wood, but it also has the same problems. I would like to see it developed, though.

Next one is much too repetative, and the melody is a bit too random. However, I would like you to keep the first half and develop the second half into something bigger.

There's not enought of the last one to say much, but hopefully you develop the random-sounding beginning into something that uses that randomness as a form in itself. It reminds me of some LOZ stuff, though, such as the Sky City music from Twilight Princess.

Overall, your music sounds like the beginnings of some interesting VG music. However, now you have to figure out how to get the beginning and end part! :P Keep on going, though and keep trying to get down on paper what's in your head. I know it's frustrating! Good luck.

Here's MIDIs.:)

Listen to this kid. He knows what he's talking about. I agree on every point.

Keep at it! ^_^
