Ok, so after my long absence from Ichigo's, I've finally decided to make a visit back and start a completely fresh composition and arrangement thread. (And maybe even stay here for a while too?) I just wanted to share some of my progress with everyone; anyone who doesn't remember me can go and dig up my old thread if they want to see what's there.

Gerudo: Arrangement of Gerudo Valley by Koji Kondo.*
Strom: Arrangement of Song of Storms and Song of Healing by Koji Kondo.*
Glory: My composition, a revamped version of one of my older songs.

*-Feel free to make corrections and re-upload.

Glory needs a key change or something! I like the polyphony going on.

Is it possible for you to upload a MIDI of each of those?

I absolutely love Glory! It ended way before I wanted it to because it was so good, but I guess that's better than writing a long and boring song. Awesome job once again!

My songs usually do tend to drag on like you say, so I just felt like making it short. If people really like it, then I can try to make it longer, but only if and when I come up with ideas for new phrase patterns; a key change may even be good for it. If you look now, you can see that I have the same four chords repeating.

Sorry for the double post, but no one will notice if I simply edit my last one!

Here is an mp3 of Glory.

The other song isn't really a song, but rather a collaboration of my ideas that haven't developed into complete songs themselves. If people think I could pull it off into making it just one song, just say so and I'll work on the transitions... and an ending... If it seems too scattered, vote for the part you like most, and tell me what instruments you might like for it. Then I'll focus on that/those parts individually or in small groups so they can sound really nice.

A modulation and introduction to a new section with changes of rhythms maybe would keep the interest of Glory. It is short but it feels complete. However to extended it you may get a good contrast and to keep it interesting till return to the first part on the polyphony. Like 'ABA' structure.

I like the senses of melody and harmony in this piece. Some of your voice leading could be worked on a little bit. I also think that all of these ideas are compatible, but that you need to unify them somehow.

Unify them... somehow? What else can I do besides working on my transitions?

Here's Glory with an updated little portion. I'm very angry that I added it to add variety to my song, but then the new part turned out to be the same four chords I was already using in a different order! I think it sounds nice though, and if I fit a key change in somewhere when I go back to the first part, it should work nicely. (I'm gonna' use your suggestion, Nyu.) I'm still editing little by little, but tell me what you think now.

Some type of repeated material (preferably melodic) that surrounds the different sections you have now would work well.

Really liking the arrangement in this - the instruments are well balanced part-wise and the melody transitions smoothly from one instrument to the next. And yeah, like Nyu said, try adding a different section with a different progression. If you want to change into a different key, the classical approach is to cadence on the dominant (V) on the new key for the section which leads up to it, which would in term require you at some point to introduce accidentals. Right now, it does have a nice, smooth diatonic feel, so you probably don't need too much except for the transitions. Also, to help distinguish the section even more, try using a different texture or rhythmic feel for the new section. Oh, and don't worry too much about the part which ended up sounding kind of samey - you can always use that later in the piece as a modified recap of sorts. Anyways, I hope this helps. Keep up the good work!
