This first one is my take on soft, eerie music. Sort of like what you would hear at the beginning of a thriller or something. I watched a few movies like that a few weeks ago and decided to give it a shot lemme know what you think.

I'm guessing not many people have Finale 2008 yet, so I'll post an audio file. ^_^

I'll also put an arrangement up here too, just for kicks. It's from Final Fantasy 6. "Dancing Mad for Symphonic Band" It's not finished by any means but I think six and a half minutes is a good start don't you think? lol. :P

Hi

'Theme' sounds plain, It falls good as background music. It brought to me a mysterious feeling and visuals of explorer inside a pyramid. I see this can be improve by adding melodic lines played by wind instruments like Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, bassoon or better yet an ethnic instrument, it would give to it more character and to help much better to bring the atmosphere this emanate. The harp should have a bit more of volume, It sound low for me, unless you have it panned to the left speaker which is dead here. lol

Edit #1:

How long is going to be that arrange? I would like to hear it from a real orchestra for get the effect of the music much better. It is going good; however I am not so familiar with FF music, but I like it.

Edit #2:

Thanks for no post .MUS! lol

Edit #3:

Have no I see you in CGEmpire?

Thanks. Yeah, I was planning on doing more with like an ethnic instrument for the "Theme". I could also pan the harp too now that you bring it up.

And Dancing Mad (the original version) is quite long, with about 4 movements if I can remember right. So this arrangement might be half done, maybe a little more. It might take awhile to get the whole thing finished :P

Oh, btw. No, I haven't been on CGEmpire. I didn't even know what it was until now lol.

I do!

"Theme" reminds me of something from the Twilight Princess. It sounds pretty good. The end bothers me a little, though. I think you need to work the chords there so that it doesn't sound too forced.

Hey all. It's been awhile since I've posted so here's an arrangement. I've taken Alex Kim's original composition "Disappearing Shadow" and "Seventh Sense" and transcribed them for a symphony. I've been working on it for a long time and I think this is the arrangement that I'm most proud of.

If you're still on the forums, Alex, tell me what you think =D
That goes for the rest of you too. I hope you enjoy it.

^_^

Made with Finale 2008/2009, Garritan Personal Orchestra, and Garritan Aria.

I've attached the MUS file just in case anyone has Finale '09 yet. Which I highly doubt lol. I tend to jump on the Finale train early :P

EDIT: Well apparently, this piece of music is a form of the Nocturne written by a well known artist known as WinterWind-NS. Well, if WinterWind ever sees this, I hope he's pleased =p

Very nice! I'm pretty sure that Alex has not been active in years. It's pretty cool how you got GPO to sound that good. I can never get it to sound quite the way I want it to.

I've taken Alex Kim's original composition "Disappearing Shadow"

It's not his original compostion, he stole it off the well known artist WinterWind-NS. Here's the link for the original song:

You did an amazing arrangement, though. I'll let winterwind know once I see him online. That'll make him happy... I think...

Thanks! Yeah, it takes a lot of fiddling with ambiance, panning and whatnot, but it was well worth IMO. Part of it is the Garritan player that comes with Finale 2009. It is really helpful.

Here's an Arrangement I've done from Final Fantasy VI. The Japanese title was "Wild West" and was turned into "The Veldt" in the NA version. Basically, it's where you get the Character Gau. I hope you like it.

Made with Finale 2009/Garritan Aria.

NOTE: I also have many other Arrangements from FF VI. So if you want to hear any, let me know ^_^

The Veldt:

Wow, using Garritan? There's got to be something with ARIA; I can't get 2008 to sound like that. xD But anyway, I suggest adding a few phrasing markings in a few spots (cresc., dim., etc.). In the 2nd part of the piece after the first melody, I suggest adding something to add to the intensity (but it's off a video game, so it may not be suitable). It may be suitable to add a few stationary/pedal tones around the piece.

Well, since the holidays are right around the corner, I wanted to try my hand at arranging some Christmas tunes for a full orchestra. This is my first attempt - Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

Giles

I'll see if I can find it =P I seemed to have misplaced it somewhere.

In the meantime, I'll let you guys scrutinize this. It's something that I hope to get published sometime soon. It is "Czardas" by Vittorio Monti transcribed for Alto Saxophone and Piano. It's really close to being perfected, I think.

It's always good to have a few more sets of eyes to look at these sorts of things.

Czardes is a nice piece, I like it. I hope you finish of polish it, if is missing any detail. The score is very well done, good job with it. The only thing is at measure 12, the decresendo is missing the point and at measure 13 just appear a ")". Just something silly that maybe you would like to fix. I also would recommend to later take down the pdf and mus files if you are looking to publish it. That would cause people to get it for free here and not buy it (If they find it).

Giles
November 30th, 2008, 06:09 am
Thanks! I'll get that fixed. I didn't notice that before =P I will make sure to take the score off of here when I get it published. Sorry guys! lol.

Hey, all! Long time no see...again lol. I've been busy working on a lot of arrangements, so I guess this thread will see the light of day again, haha.

First, I'll start things off with some FF 7 Orchestrations. These are not really arrangements, but rather, re-makes of the original tracks to make the original music sound better :)

Enjoy =]

Also, you can visit my channel on YouTube for a lot of orchestrations if you're interested! http://www.youtube.com/sschafi1

I'm doing requests as well. Just tell me what FF song (or any RPG song) you want to hear re-orchestrations of. I'd be happy to oblige! :D

Hmm. Wanna tell me why your "Fugue in F minor" is basically a bastardized version of Bach's WTC1 No. 16 Fugue?

Giles
September 22nd, 2009, 02:08 am
Actually, I have never heard of that fugue. I just looked it up. And while the baroque style is similar, I don't think I "bastardized" that version, as you eloquently said. I don't think it's possible to do that unless you have actually heard the piece, which I haven't until now :)

Shizeet

Well, it's a big coincidence considering you have the pretty much the exact same subject, just in a different key. I thought you were trying to redo the fugue or something.

Wow...haven't been here since 2009?? This needs to change.

Well I'm back again, with a few more re-orchestrations.

These are from a game called Breath of Fire 3 for the PSX. For these I primarily used Colossus as my sound library. I'm still getting the hang of properly mixing tracks, so if you guys have any tips on mixing, I'm all ears!

Let me know what you think!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

List of Software I use (in general):

Notation:
Finale 2010

Sound Libraries:
East West's "Colossus"
East West's "Symphonic Orchestra Gold"
East West's "Stormdrum"
Garritan Instruments for Finale 2010
Big Fish Audio's "Raging Guitars"

Nice to see you back!

As always, excelent production values! I see that you've moved to some better virtual instrument libraries. What are you using to sequence everything? Are you running a 64bit system?

Giles
July 14th, 2010, 09:45 pm
Yeah, I'm running Windows 7 x64.

and I use the VST plug-ins for Finale to sequence everything. All of it's done through the Colossus interface :)

PorscheGTIII
July 15th, 2010, 12:04 am
Unless your copy of Finale is also 64bits though, you are limited to using 2-3Gb of your 4Gb of RAM. Even though your OS is 64bit, your software also has to be 64bit to amke use of the RAM.

AND YOU DO ALL THAT THROUGH FINALE!?

Giles
July 15th, 2010, 02:37 am
I can't remember if my Finale is x64 or not...I wanna say yes? lol.

and yes, I do everything in Finale :D I just load up the VST plug-in and work from there. East West's plug-ins have everything I could possibly need for mixing (highpass/lowpass filters, pan, reverb, delay, and tons more) ^_^

Also, yay for having nearly $1,800 in software! lol :)

Back with another re-orchestration!

This one was actually pretty challenging. Some things could be better, and it could use some fine-tuning, but I'm pretty proud of it.

Software used:

Finale 2010
East West Symphonic Orchestra Gold
East West Colossus
East West Stormdrum

you had me at BUMPH! i wish this exact song was playing while actually playing the game. i also wish that you had made it louder around 1:28, and mellow it back down to what you originally had around 1:36.

i think you rekindled my love for ffvii. lol

Alfonso de Sabio

As for me, my love of ffvii needs no rekindling.

This is great. I dig the rhythm and the drive of the piece. I would recommend tweaking the dynamics a little bit, though, as it does get a touch repetitive.

Hey all!

I decided to try my hand at Sonata Form (we're doing this in class atm). I love the sound of the bassoon so I thought I'd compose a sonata for one. (Well...a movement of a sonata anyway).

I used Finale in conjunction with East West's Symphonic Orchestra Gold (for the Bassoon) and Colossus (for the harpsichord).

I tried to make it sound as Classical as possible, since the sonata form originated in the Classical period. Let me know what you think!

The sheet music looks weird as of now, but I can clean it up if you guys want to see the music.

Nyu001
September 16th, 2010, 02:37 am
This just bring to my mind baroque composers rather the ones from the classical period, lol. A lot of things you did here can be found in the baroque period. However, I like the sonata, very entertaining. :) I don't have anything to comment in the composition since I enjoy it.

The only thing that bothered me was how the bassoon felt separated of the harpsichords. :x Maybe lower the harpsichord volume and add a bit of reverb to it if that make it blend better with the bassoon's reverb? If Colossus has a dry bassoon, maybe you can layer it with low volume with the one of Gold and see if that has a good result.

Giles
September 16th, 2010, 02:44 am
Yeah, the Bassoon in SO Gold has a natural wet reverb, so I tried to compensate by adding some reverb to the harpsichord. I was using headphones, so it sounded fine to me...but I forgot to listen to it on my speakers lol. :P

Nyu001
September 16th, 2010, 03:21 am
Another option that probably would help is if you export the bassoon and make it a mono audio, so it will be centre and will be easier to pay attention to it. The only bad is that you will get noise. But with the harpsichord maybe wont be noticeable?

Ander
September 17th, 2010, 03:03 am
i kinda felt like dancing when listening to this piece. is that supposed to happen with sonata?

Mushyrulez
September 19th, 2010, 12:40 am
Yeah, as Ander said it felt more like a movement from a suite than a sonata (maybe that's why Nyu got the baroque feel :V).

The volume of the Bassoon (near the beginning) sounds much softer than the harpsichord though... :/

Anyways, it's nice.

Back with another composition!

This was the assignment in my advanced theory class - write a piece using a non-traditional scale. So I chose the whole-tone scale. I drew a lot of inspiration from Debussy of course, as well as from Wagner in places. Right now, it sounds like more of a prelude to a ballet, as it's only about 2 minutes long, but I plan on continuing it in the future. Let me know what you think!

The MUS file is for Finale 2011, so let me know if you can't open it and i'll send you a pdf and an mp3.

EDIT: Also, I'm working on transcribing a movement from the Actraiser Symphonic Suite. It'll be arranged for a Wind Orchestra. That will be coming soon as well :)

Next up is a piece in Sonata form that is influenced HEAVILY by Beethoven and Dvorak, lol. Maybe I listen to too much Beethoven :heh:

It's a little on the lengthy side as well. I hope you're comfy! (this is just the shortened version, without the repeat of the Exposition) a 128 kbps mp3 was still too large to upload :\

Congrats on the transcription!

Also, as the cellist in a quartet that's currently playing Beethoven's 15th and Dvorak's "American" quartets, I have to say, I was feeling the influence! REALLY well done! This may be the first Ichigo's quartet I've come across that I would actually want to play. Seriously, all the elements were there. You had good balance among the instruments, there were fun rhythmic things going on, a dope main theme, and righteous harmony. Really well polished. Congratulations.

I'd like some opinions on where I should go in this next composition. I wanted to make a sad sounding theme like you'd hear from a movie soundtrack. I almost got two pages filled out, but I'm not sure where I should go with it. Any suggestions?

Back with another composition! This one is in a movie soundtrack style, similar to "The Mummy" or something. It's all desert-y.

I started this last night at like midnight. Only got around a minute and a half so far. I'm kind of stuck after the last 8-bar phrase.

Any ideas?

I definitely like the beginning. It's got that metal and gold, well I guess gold is metal. Rock! Yes. Gold is rock. and this song is rock. When the melody comes in and the transition to violins are bit abrupt. maybe the violin is too loud. Or decrscending at the first bar may be what i'm saying.

First time I heard this song, I think the most I remember from that is the percussion. it really went nicely along with the entire piece, or throughout the whole piece. You know what I mean?

For the last eight bars.... do something crazy for us man :)
