It's been a while since I've been around. Instead of bashing users for stealing songs, I decided to post some of my music to know what you think of it.
I'm open to all coments, I'm always looking for tips to improve.
And I seriously need to make them longer.

What do you think?

P.S. Soul Mirror is a lullaby for my nephew ^_^

P.S.S. I'm updating this first post everytime a new song is out, to keep things more organized.

Welcome back!

You have some nice VG/BGM music going on there for you. The main problem I hear though is a balancing issue between your instruments which could easily be fixed in your DAW. Your solo instruments always seem to be overpowered by everything else and each time you introduce a new instrument, that instrument is louder.

Keep that stuff coming! ^_^

Indeed. I especially noticed with "Moments to remember", that violin is way too loud. The problem here is that, even if I do use expressions in my scores, for some reason my VST cannot detect that and plays every single instrument in mp (or mf). It's weird that it does identifies articulations.

For that, I'll change my notation program. I hear sibelius is good :)

Yes, Sibelius is good, but as notation software, as finale. For use VST I would recommend to use a sequencer. You will have better control.

I'm not quite interested in FL or Reason. I'm familiar with notation and I'll stick with it.

Plus, I know many people who use VST with simple programs such as Noteworthy composer. They do wonders with it, so I have no excuse.

Thanks!
I believe you're talking about the flute. I don't think it's possible on midi, but I re-route the midi channels towards my VST: Garritan's Personal Orchestra.

It is possible there. Sounds very realistic and it's quite beautiful for slow pieces.
Not so good for battle scores, though :(

You seem to like soft music. I listened now to the 3 pieces. Sounds relaxing with a nice calm. Soul Mirror is nice but the only think I didn't like was those chromatic notes the flute did.

The triplets? :(
Someone told me so once. For that song I was composing against time, there was a children lullaby's contest and deadline was pretty close. I suposse I took a shortcut instead of working on that part.

The contest started the day my sister told me she was pregnant.

wow... that's... -speechless-
anyway, very thoughtful of you xD
the triplets are a little...odd, maybe, but i think it actually adds a bit of extra flavor to it... i dunno if ur nephew would like it?

Our inner kid - The title threw me off a bit, as I expected something not quite as solemn :P. But it's an interesting piece neverless - I rather liked the melody in this one, and the instrumentation in general feels pretty sound (the woodblock was a nice touch). I'm not a big fan of the accents though.

Moments to Remeber - Listening on headphones, the panning seperation is sounds too severe. I've got violin and harp almost at dead ends opposite of each other one left and right. The strings come in a bit too abrupt in my opinion, and holding off the bass stuff until the last section might add some greater dramatic effect. The last section by the way sounds really neat harmonically, especially with that lingering chord in the end.

Soul Mirror - This one's a bit more static in terms of feel, but it does evoke a contemplative sort of mood. The flute felt like it should've done a bit more countermelody stuff rather than just doubling the melody throughout. The pitch bends sounds off, but I'll assume they're flukes due to the playback engine. Also, there sounds like an organ about to come in around 1:13, but it just plays two whole chords. Strange.

I've noticed in some of the music, there seems to be some strangely placed accents and timing offsets, though I think this may be due to the "live" playback engine acting weird. Have you tried turning the option on and off too see if produces better/worse results?

@ Shizeet: Sorry for not responding earlier. I noticed your comments too late and I didn't wanted to bump this thread just for a response. It would seem like an excuse to keep my thread on top.

Don't pay too much attention to titles. I never really know what title should I use, since I really can't describe in a single word or two what I was thinking while composing it, or I'm just bad at it :p. It's pretty much random.
Hmm, about the panning separation... I never noticed. I mean, I never touched the pan knob. It probably tends to adjust itself while playing, I'll keep that in mind next time. Strings would probably sound better starting off slowly doesn't it? I originally wrote it like that, but garritan won't identify expressions on finale. I'll probably need to use FL for these things in the future.

Oh, and on Soul Mirror, there is an organ. I never thought anyone would notice, I just left it there seeing as you can barely hear it.

There is a human playback thing on Finale, that's probably what you're talking about. I'll deactivate it and re-record something to compare results.

Thank you very much shizeet.

Oh, and I finally composed a new song. This time for mother's day.
Contigo means "With you", for anyone wondering.

So the name "Contigo" is random as well, gathering from your description? I'm sure there's a reason why you would name it in an exotic language instead of in English, especially when you translated the title for us?
What do you think is the main reason why I'm not putting this song into my permanent loop of music in my MP3 player, as I have done with goodies from Alphonse, Deathraider, Michael, Mazeppa and a few other great, old members' songs who I'm sure you won't recognize even if I post their names up here?

Maybe because he is from Mexico and Spanish is his native language?

The piece makes me thing of lullabies, it have that sense, at least to me. The music has its sweet side. Though the violin should be centered.

As Nyu said, spanish is my native language. Contigo is a simple word and for some reason I have always liked it. Being this for my mom I think there's no other word to describe so much in a single word.
I'm getting tired of english titles also. I don't usually tell my friends the name of my songs because they give me an awkward look.
Things get very complicated just because of the title :(, which is why I tend to not care about it and focus only on the music itself.

Nyu, I promise I'll learn more about mastering. I get comments like that a lot, such as the violin being too dry for "Moments to remember", x song needing more reverb, etc.

Thanks for the comments.
