I suggest Yamaha keyboards. Price ranges between as low as $100 (U.S. currency) and over $1000 (U.S. currency). They have great sound to them and often come with more than one voice.

Piano is actually a good first instrument to learn. If you are having trouble reading notes, try this site (http://www.musictheory.net/index.html) out. They have this trainer that teaches you the names of the lines and spaces of treble and bass clef, as well as some other basic theory stuff you might want to read about.

I would reccommend a yamaha keyboard as well. I have one and they're pretty cool. :P Mine was about 2 or 3 hundred US dollars, but they have better ones for $500-1000 that are full range and even have weighted keys if you are serious about playing and know you will stick with it. Piano isn't very hard to learn either...you'll get the hang of it soon after you start. I remember I was already playing simple songs a week after I started.

In times of trouble and hardship...

Don't forget - The good musicians were the crappy ones that never gave up!

but if you do choose any-instrument-that-isnt-piano, the start is quite hard to get used to....took me 2 weeks to blow a single note in my flute @_@

I was inspired to start playing piano again by someone too. Inspiration is an amazing thing.

Starting up on something completely new, such as music is a very difficult process. Not because it's necessarily hard to play, but rather because it takes a large amount of patience and practice. Practice is key. Once you get the basics, it gets much easier for you.
I would say, if you are teaching yourself, then you should get a beginners piano book. I don't know what brand is good for keyboards because I have yet to get one. I just have a regular piano... I have no idea what brand because I never really cared that much for some reason. Anyways, a beginners piano book will be very useful, especially if you are planning on learning other instruments too. If you learn to read both treble clef and bass clef then you can read music for just about any other instrument. There are other reasons for why Piano is a great starting instrument but that's not too important right now.
At first you're probably going to be quite bad. I know I was... even now I think I suck. Everyone is bad when they first start, just as some other members have stated. If you get frustrated, which I did a lot, then just take a break and then come back to it. The brain can only process so much at once... Don't give up, practice, and have a lot of patience. I wish you luck. ^^

I would suggest lessons if you really want to learn an instrument. It's easier to suddenly give up or stop when learning by yourself (especially when u get stuck) and a teacher can make sure you don't start any bad habits when playing. Like everyone else said, practice and dedication are also really important. Well, good luck!

I hope im not too late to reply. xDD

Well learning the piano first will be a great. Most people think piano is hard. Whenever you start learning something. It would be i guess. But when you have the passion to do it, you won't feel it. ;DD

you know some people wants to learn but they cant afford it. When you can, you should do your best in it! ;DD ( i think i rant lots. ;X )
