If you were in it this year, talk about your Marching Band/Pep Band season. If the season's still going on, say how things are doing at the moment.

My band's still in the middle of competition season and going to a competition this Saturday. We're a group two regional band and our show this year's titled Fantasmic!. Based off the famous Disney live animation and fireworks show.

Awww yay marching band! We had our State competition this past Saturday. I loved our show to death, and we only have two more performances left with it. :( It's called "The Journey Within". I lovvved it. The music is really pretty too. Our competitions were pretty good, took 1st at all of them. And State as well, and 3 caption awards. I seriously think that was our best performance. <33 I had a lot of fun this year, and I might be able to be a flute section leader next year! I'm so excited. ^_^

Marching band, huh? I'm in my schools marching band. Sadly, my band isn't a competitive band. We didn't even go into the Marching Festival the past two years. Kind of sucks for us... Anyways, this years season is done, except one more performance. That performance is Halloween band. We get out of half of school to hold a parade for the elementary kids. It's going to be fun.
Our show this year was "The Beatles". We played songs by The Beatles, obviously... haha. It was really fun this year. I was... the Substitute Section leader. Whenever my two section leaders weren't there, I was section leader. It wasn't often, but it was still good. Though I acted like section leader regardless because no one cared if I did. I'll be section leader next year though. I play Clarinet by the way. (:

Aww that's cool! :] If you guys don't compete, then who do you march the show for? Football games? One day a month ago we had an all-day band practice. Where we got to skip classes and practice our marching show the entire school day. It was really fun. ^_^ Next year I might get to be section leader. There'll only be one senior flute, and even though I'll only be a junior, they'll need another one. And I heard that I'd be the top choice for the spot. :) That makes me happy. One of my best friends plays clarinet.

We play at the football games. We have those side performances too. One was for the middle school concert bands and another was this pre-marching festival thing. Marching festival, if you don't have it around your area, is a thing were all of the marching bands from the area go and perform for judges to get ratings. It's I guess a competition, although we're not really going up against other bands. We just do our show and they give us a rating on how well we do.
Our last marching performance is Halloween. I'm looking forward to that, I get to miss half of school for it. If we had an all-day marching rehearsal, I think half the band would die. A lot of the members aren't really into band and they only do it for the PE credit... it's ridiculous but whatever. I enjoy band and making music so I'm in band.
I'll be a senior next year, so I'm pretty much automatically section leader. I'll be trying out for the part either way because I think the two section leader practices are fun. (:

Oh I see. :) That's still cool though, it's less pressure than competing against other bands. But then again that's thrilling as well.
Marching band is a PE credit for you? It isn't for us, but it does give us an extra credit in general. Awww. I adore band. But I understand, quite a few people in my band are just in it for the easy A. I'd die WITHOUT band, honestly. I love it so much. ^_^
That's cool. :] I'm up against 3 other girls in my flute section for the section leader spot, but the girl who is definitely going to be one of the two section leaders, told me that I better get the spot because "someone's going to have to teach them how to play". Haha, it's fun. I'm remaining hopeful. ^.^

Wow, there are a lot of competitive bands... I really wish my band was, then maybe some of the members would stop being so lazy and stop complaining every 30 seconds... Not only that, but it just sounds so much fun. Our band barely does anything... though we do host a lot of things. And every other year we go on a band trip. My freshman year of high school we went to Disney world in Florida for about a week. This year, my Junior year, we're going to Washington D.C. It's going to be fun. We went to do a parade in Disney World, so we went as the marching band and the concert band for some music festival thing... I don't think it was necessarily festival... but whatever. haha. This year we're going to Washington as only a concert band

That's cool, though. ^_^ This year my band's going on a band trip as well. We spend a few days in DC, then we're going to New York. We were told that we might be able to play the national anthem for a baseball game, since my city's team is going to be playing there at the time. :]

That's cool! I want to go to New York. My first two years of marching band, I played the national anthem for our baseball team. This year we didn't. Instead we went to an amusement park. We marched around and played some songs for the people there. This was done during band camp, so we didn't have very much music to play for them. haha

I'm a proud member of the University of Virginia Cavalier Marching Band! This is only the 5th year our marching band has even existed, and this is my 4th year in the band =)

We don't compete, but we do a new show for every home game! We usually keep our music and drill pretty simple and go for stuff that will entertain the crowd. A couple fun shows from this season have been a "Decades" show with themes from movies and TV in the 70's and 80's, and a Guitar Hero show with "Walk This Way" and "Carry On My Wayward Son." Next up is our last show of the season, Earth, Wind, and Fire!

I did band in high school and was drum major, and now I'm section leader of my section. We have really great people in my section so it's always really fun! Band in college is great because you know everyone is there because they want to be there, not for an easy A or their parents made them or anything.

Aww. I haven't been to New York yet, either. My brother lives like, an hour away from NYC. Lucky. But, marching around playing songs in an amusement park sounds like fun! ^_^ I would've had a blast with that.

Sorry to revive an old thread, just taking a stab to see if anyone who was interested in marching is still around ^_^

it's about that time again. Drum corps season is in full swing, and high school field season is coming up if it hasn't started already

Edit: Guess not. Dang x_x
