hey,

here I my first ever counterpoints (and my 1st ever post). Please check them, I have done as best I can ;)

here are the general rules, as far as I know them!:

-do not approach a unison from the interval of a 2nd
-avoid parallel 8cts and 5ths
-2 parts may not move in parallel motion to a perfect consonance.

The first one is a first species counterpoint, the second is a second species counterpoint. I've attached a midi and .pdf file.

thanks,

will

Before I can even begin to help you, I need to know which is the Cantus Firmus and which is the Counterpoint.

The cantas firmus is the lower one. I'm not too sure on how to do it if the cantas firmus is on top.

From what I can tell, what you have seems to follow all the rules set by these two species. I noticed that the cantus you are using is the same as that used in the "Gradus ad Parnassum" except in the Ionian Mode instead of the Dorian Mode.

He uses these examples...
