Hey everyone, I'm trying to start up a band that primarily plays jazz anime pieces (Tank!, Baccano OP, Lupin III, etc) in the Chicago area. My goal is have the first performance at Acen, and play at cons around the city. In between we'll do jazz clubs/bars if possible. I myself am an alto sax player of 12+ years. I would like to get this ready to start practicing in January. I can hold sessions at my apartment, which is right next to public transportation and the highway. I live under some music teachers, so noise isn't a problem.
If you're interested, send me a PM, and I can give you some more info!

As it stands right now, we've got a pianist, a trombonist, a singer, and myself on alto sax. We're still looking for at least a bassist and a drummer!

I live to far from Chicago (southern Illinois) to be a part of this, and I don't really play a jazz instrument, but I just wanted to say I think this is a really cool idea! There's so much great jazz stuff out there in anime. I like that you're thinking of that stuff first and not necessarily jazz arrangements on other anime music (although that would be a cool addition as well!)
I'm always surprised at how few music groups/ensembles there are in the anime convention scene. I wish you guys the best of luck! And if you do get a group together and you'd like a website, I'd love to make you one! =) Just message me!

Thanks for the support you guys. I love jazz, and after playing with a band for a while (small band, did mostly R&B and simple stuff I don't like) I really wanted to do stuff I like, for an audience I knew would recognize it. By the way, if you have ideas for songs we should play, feel free to suggest them. I haven't seen all the anime out there, and if someone requests something, I'd love to be able to fulfill it.
