Sure, we've all seen those humorous animes like Love Hina and Azumanga Daioh. And we've also seen plenty 'o animes with guns, swords, etc...but what about the others? What's your favorite anime that made you sit and think about how you live your life?

Mine's Haibane Renmei and Grave of the Firefles, hands down. What's yours?

hmm...well, animes like CCS and Rave has sort of influenced me to become very optimistic and also responsible i guess ^^ it's not like one particular episode, but the whole thing as a whole makes u slowly follow their habits, like their loyalty in friendship and stuff.
but one of the animes that make me pause the most is Kenshin...on its philosophy on life and war. how to realise the value of human life and alsowhy we shld try to stop war. it made me really stop to think, especially in those parts where he fights a psychotic enemy (nearly every arc has one at least) and he tries to "bring them back to the correct path". the dialogues are intiguing

eva doesn't make you think, eva makes you sit there guessing whether anno meant something by that or was he just "under the influence".

Now now, children, play nice.
Angelic, admitedly, the Eva series made me think (but that might be because I'm reading English manga instead of reading the subtitles and watching at the same time). :whistling: Another series that I'm currently reading that's really made me think is Confidential Confessions by Reiko Momochi. It's one of those real-life series, dealing with issues like suicide, rape, harrasment, et cetera (reccomendations!!). .hack//SIGN made me think, but I'd guess that's a different kind of thinking. ^^;

Hm, I don't think an anime has made me think. I watch anime for pure entertainment and enjoyment.

Yeah, sure, we believe you ;)

Now and Then, Here and There made me think a LOT, and Trust and Betrayal has also done the same for me. I guess Fushigi Yugi as well.

i think nge is definately one of the most introspective anime's around....

i think haibane renmei might be closest, but still quite a distance away from being as (purposely) thought envoking as eva....

haibane renmei and flcl have lots of symbolism that could be interperated, but eva is blatently trying to make u think...

....

this might be a different type of "think", but conan...

definately.. most engaging mystery stuff could be considered a "thinking" anime

Well, I liked eva maninly because it had multiple meanings, but it didn't make me think.. No anime, yet to date, has made me think about how I live, but they have changed my personality a bit.

(Note first: I am not an NGE fanboy...nor do I aspire to be...)

No anime has made me think more than Evangelion...I know it might sound paranormal but sometimes after watching I would just lay on my bed looking up at the ceiling going "Why am I here?" or "What is the meaning of life?"...

Yep...its definitely made an impact on me...its just the fact that no one can possible decipher the limitless meanings, if you know what I mean...well, 'cept the maker I guess...

Well I'll stop rambling now, sorry for sounding like a crazed Eva fanboy :heh:

Mines probably Full Metal Alchemist. Although it's got alot of comedy moments it's pretty deep anime overall.
hm.. reviving an old thread.. but anyhow, I just watched FMA... and it got me traumatized already at episode 7... or 8... around there.. i started thinking a lot as well.... about scientists these days trying to create life, etc >< but it's a good anime ^^ so I agree with Harv~ it is a "pretty deep anime".

Evangelion, so many interesting concepts in that anime, hard not to wonder about what is the true point of it.

X (The movie that is)

You need to think to be able to truly appreciate the anime-to wonder if what they say truly is the truth about mankind-are humans really scoundrels that should be purged from the earth? If you don't think about things like these as you watch it, the whole thing becomes unbearably draggy.

Anime as a whole makes me think-I do personal self-study on "Alterative Literature"-spotting techniques and literary style in everything I watch. If you want to, any anime can become as deep as a Shakespeare play actually. Just depends on whether you want to se it in such a light.

That's the beauty of Anime, I feel. To quote from somehting originally used to describe the bible, "it's shallow enough for children to swim in, yet deep enough for the most intelligent philosiphers to drown in".

pocky.

Hmm... I watch alot of anime and form the top of my head:
Full Metal Alchemist
Cardcaptor Sakura
Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne
Yu Yu Hakusho
Full Moon wo Sagashite (Maga more so than the anime, but both make you think)
Its not a 'real' anime, but Avatar is also a really good one.

I like anime that make you think about yourself and the world. There should be more of them. Sometimes I think it makes you a better person because you can apply what you learned to real life. Even if the anime is 'for kids' like CCS, it teaches you then, and later on when your older and you watch it again.

I got one ;) Have you guys heard of the anime NOEIN??? Its kind at weird at first but once you get into it, its really cool anime. It deals with this guy having lost his friend who happens to be a girl named Haruka. It deals with the future ,that there are endless and many futures and also a lot of dimensions that people can co exist in. Its pretty sad too. Its a really good anime!!@_@

HikariNeko I totally agree.... Is that A picture of on ur account? If that is u are really pretty

The anime that made me think the most was La Corda d'Oro. La Corda is about a girl named Hino. Hino goes to a school that specialises in music and has two streams: the normal stream and the music stream, where the music students are regarded as the more elite. She was running late for her class one day when she saw a tiny fairy, who seemed really excited that she could see it. The next day, the entrants in the music competition, who are decided by the school, are announced. Hino's name appears on the list - except she doesn't play an instrument. The fairy gives her a magical violin that can be played by anyone. Reluctantly, she enters into the competition and is forced to deal with the prejudices of her peers.

( I took that from CR)

It made me think because I actually felt bad about how little I practice and it gave me a real new out look on music, practicing and becoming better. Classical isn't what I like to play so much but I like to listen to it. My favorite piece on there is Gavotte. <3 The violin and trumpet duet Gavotte- Trumpet & Violin (http://www.imeem.com/people/Nqykq_/music/DS_8tkuN/gossec_gavotte/) It's short (the song and series) but I want to make my music sound better and become a better player.

Gundam Seed and Destiny. It's one of the animes that I have watched it 3 times and analyzed and thought of the story, the characters and the theme. at first glance, to me at least, it seems to be about ... "robots". but i gave it a shot and love it. the beauty of such mech-animes is the theme of war....

I've got to say no animes make me think about how I live my life, but Death Note just made me think what was going to happen next. Same with Code Geass right now. I really like the animes/books/movies that make me go, "Wha!! Are you kidding me??" Those are the really good ones:lol:

Dennō Coil. It's like a realistic version of the matrix with slight twists. Lots of polythemed questions focused on what exists and what does not, and that which is somewhere between the two.

I actually agree with you here... In my opinion it also has nothing to do with EVA's or what ever...
But those last episodes were... sit and watch, let urself get confused. Which i did :P And made me thing afterwards!

Further more;
Denno Coil,
Gunslinger girl, how can you save little girls from some horrible accident, and then train them to be killer machines...

And ofcourse besides that you have the 'normal' freaky animé which makes you think how the hack they can make something like it?! Just unbelievable and u have no clue whatsoever is going to happen next, like Monster, Death Note (was really sad about the bad end in comparison with the rest of the serie) and Code Geass. It's like reading a book from Dean Koontz, always a surprise
