First of all, hello nice to meet you all, I'm new to this forum :)

Just wondering, who here likes to listen to music while they do work, or can only listen to music WHILE they're doing something else?

Personally I suck at multitasking so I won't be able to listen to any genre of music while working/driving. A friend of mine says he can listen to "popular" music when he's working but not classical music because it's so complex. What do you guys think o.o?

I love listening to music while working, but it depends on what I'm doing:

If I'm studying or working on schoolwork, I can only listen to music without lyrics. With lyrics, I get sidetracked easily and stop reading whatever it is I was reading.

If I'm working out (like in the gym), any music regardless of the lyrics is good just as long as it gets my adrenaline going. Everyone has those songs they hear that hits that "nerve" or gets the feeling in your gut acting up.

Well, if I'm doing math, I need to listen to really fast loud music. It actually helps me- because I have to block out the screaming lyrics and concentrate twice as hard on my math work.

If I'm reading, I can't listen to a fast song. It distracts me too much. Classical is what I'll usually go for.

I agree with this. The types I listen to depend on what I'm doing. If I'm doing math homework, I'll usually listen to Panic at the Disco. ((Panic power!)) Because I really like them, I'll associate boring old math, with super cool music! Even though I can sometimes get distracted by singing along, I end up having more fun with it. And when I'm in a good mood, I try harder in my work. Which sorta makes sense I guess. If I'm reading I'll go for, like Voice of Violence, classical music. Just light stuff that isn't too complex, like a piano solo version of a song. ^_^

I completely agree with you guys. Listening soothing light music helps me to concentrate. While fast music with catchy lyrics distracts me from study, however it boosts me at gym. :)

When I'm listening to music I can't do anything else...

I listen to it all the time. When I'm studying, working, drawing, etc.

I use online playlists, usually, sometimes a CD. I used to listen to Radio, but the Radio around here has progressively gotten worse.

Hm...most of the time I'm really good at blocking things out(which kind of defies the purpose of listening but...) while working but if it's something I haven't listened to in a while and/or really really like I get the urge to sing along...
I like classical music and it is easy to work to...
As for other wordless songs, :bleh:...

Listening to music while working helps me.Because it inspires me of doing my work.It wakes me up when i am starting to feel uncomfortable.

I tend to listen to orchestral music (anything with audible words is too likely to distract me), and I like to build a long playlist of a certain type of music, so I can put it on and let it play without being distracted by having to pick or skip specific tracks. Generally I go for fast/upbeat when I need to hammer away at code, slow/somber when I need to think more

I listen to music when I'm doing other things all the time! Although I normally have to get on YouTube and type in something like SSBM orcestra or something like that. That kind of stuff actually helps me think creativly.

I love to listen to music when doing something other then composing, but I can't listen to music by itself. I have to be doing something as well, or I get incredibly bored haha. Maybe that's a reason why I write soundtrack music so enjoyably..?

Urrr ok... Well whilst i am in my studying mood or studying. I just listen to the silent breeze outside. Or if i really want to listen to music i listen to classical music (Mozart, Bach, Rachmanioff (can't spell his name ><") and Mendelson (can't spell his name either) XP

the type of music doesn't seem to effect me

I can just lie/sit/stand there and listen to my music. so long as it doesnt have any outrageously awful vocals (some of my songs do, but i listen to them for the instrumental parts). but normally i am do something else whilst listening to music, like walking, even

music is also a lifestyle, without it is like something is missing and you can't live without it. I for one need it everyday. I listen to classical music at work mostly. But on the at home I listen to jpoprock and classical both.

I actually started listening to music or watching a movie while composing haha. Not deep level composing when when just doing some easy edits I've been sticking Nodame Cantabile on haha :P
