As a little side dish, asked a friend if I could help out with his visual novel project. The topic is, at the moment, cliche BGM a la Key adapations.

Threw this one together, I don't think it has achieved heightened levels of mind-exploding cuteness - I suck at notating percussion and am pretty terrible at finding the right sounds (noteworthy has a really limited percussion selection) to make it sound very sugarcoated. It's not really close to finished yet anyway, I'm at the start of the B section.

Harmonically, I was a wondering if the B section should go like this:

option 1: /I/ - /vii - III/ - /vi/ - /V/
option 2: /I/ - /vii - III/ - /vi - bvi/ - /v - I7/ - /IV ?

option 2 is boring, that chromatic minor7th is way too abused in pop music. I guess option 1 is viable, but then the phrasing gets too short and the cadences too frequent? [I always sucked at form :)]

Seems too strong a melody for a BGM anyway, and it's rushed, IMO.

another one in the works (maybe I should finish one before moving on to another?), it reminded me of Hellsing, especially the minor triads in minor thirds; dm - bm - fm. It makes an interesting sound.

But then it gets all megaman-ish

Cheesy ballad was sounding pretty neat. When the violin sound came in at the end I think it needs to be a little louder. As for your progression question, I'm one for melody driving the harmony so to me it would depend on the melody you plan to use there.

As for alualu, what ever is doing that pitch bend in the background at 0:25 sounds pretty awkward.
