Interesting... I'm definitely in for Tears to Tiara. Just played the visual novel (English patch out, everyone take a look!), and I thought the story was even better than Utawarerumono, which I already thought was pretty good.

FMA will warrant a look, to see what they could possibly be planning to improve on the already fair success of the original. I'll probably also watch Shangri-La because the name reminds me of the really awesome theme song of Fafner =)

Won't be watching Hayate no Gotoku 2... I'm still stuck on episode 18 of season 1. While the satirical references are initially funny, it quickly becomes rather tedious due to repetitiveness in my opinion, and the plot didn't really appeal to me.

Now... which one of these is animated by Kyoani again?

FMA is getting a full remake; apparently they wanted to produce a new view on the story (or they're trying to milk more out of the series).

I never heard of K-ON! before, but since it's made by KyoAni, it's gotta be good.

Beyblade and Bakugan's new season just made me laugh xD

And it seems like we got the lot this time... baseball anime that seems fail... mahjong anime that also seems decent... La Corda d'oro that just cannot possibly fail... and the epic Hayate no Gotoku... Valkyria also looks tempting...

More people should give Tears to Tiara a shot... The story is so awesome towards the end! Though expect a ton of flashbacks.

I looked up K-On... Apparently the genre is 'music'? Wonder if it'll be similar to Nodame Cantabile.

Yeh as Chris says, since it's made by Kyo-Ani, expect some Lucky Star meets La Corda D'oro.
I wonder if we can still call the genre music, as it's about students who can't play! xD

A skim question on Tears to Tiara. Since it shows a sword and a staff, it must be an action-fantasy related anime. Do the Anime characters actually kill off their enemies? Like not sparing them or becoming friends with every foe except the final boss. Realistic characters inside a fantasy world.

It's by the same guys that did Utawareumono, so yes, there's some killing, though don't expect that to be the primary focus. Actually, the protagonist is quite cynical and reminds me of Kazuma from Kaze no Stigma. Although that's before the whole remake comes along, so I can't really be sure what the anime will fee like.

My Opinion Alone:

FMA Brotherhood Is much darker and interesting than the 1st, I'll give Square Enix credit for that. Definitely a must watch.

Valkyrie Chronicles is by the same makers of Tales of the Abyss, and so while the animation quality is superb, the show's storyline cease to be interesting from the 1st ep, but I'll continue watching and see how it goes. For the record, I grew very bored of Abyss and stopped watching it through half way.

Hayate 2nd season is growing childish very very fast. All the jokes are used up in the first season and therefore there are less smart ones now =(
Hopefully Hayate 2 will pick up its act after the poor OVA and 1st ep to introduce characters.

*edit*

Tears to Tiara seems interesting, can anyone watch it and tell me/us your opinion?

K-On has the same Lucky Star feel to it. Nice, random, and the fact that it's about music makes it even more better!

K-on looks good to me. I’d like to see where its going.

Shangri-La was confusing for me. It seemed there was too much going on in the first ep. Some of the characters are a bit strange lol. But the animation was good.

I thought the animation of Eden of the East was stunning! The OP by Oasis was good as was the ED. The identity of the characters kinda leave you hangin’. I wanna know what’s gonna happen next. Looks exciting.

Pandora Hearts seems like it’s going to be pretty dark. I’m looking forward to see how this Alice in Wonderland twist is going to turn out.

So far I think I like Saki the best. It kind of reminded me Bakuman in that as you follow the characters life you also learn a lot about what they’re pursuing. And the comedy ties it together and keeps it from getting boring.

Ristorante Paradiso has an interesting plot. I find it annoying that all the male characters look almost exactly the same but with different colored hair.. or no hair at all. And the glasses don’t help either. But I enjoy anything that has to deal with cooking. I like that atmosphere. The music is awesome too!

@infinityex: Watched tears to tiara 1 last night. it looks pretty intruiging to me. has some potential to go. I'm gonna keep at it.

07-ghost and Asura Cryin' are also very interesting looking to me. However, asura cryin' does have some confusing material. (hopefully to be explained later XD)

Higashi no Eden was a purty show.
I like the op and ending animation alot, very unique.

I smell some shojo elements, but I think I'll stick to this as it is a unique yet odd story and main characters are quite cute :B

Anyone else watched the first ep?

lol i kind of agree. Many of the jokes are the same or similar from the first season. the redundancy kind of made me dissapointed. Think i will drop as well. That leaves:

Sengoku Basura
Tears to Tiara
Eden of the East
Asura Cryin'
K-on!
Shangri-la
Shangri-la is kind of cunfusing me though atm....

Similar to School Rumble, but just a tad more realistic.

Immediately recognized Hatsukoi Limited's art style to be that of Ichigo 100%, which didn't exactly leave many fond memories for me =p

And J.C Staff is doing HnG 2. I haven't watched it, but you'd think that they'd be a little better at romance comedies after their success with Toradora =)

Edit: Every single OP/ED I've heard this season disappoints me -.-

what? including the OP and ED for K-on?

Gotank
April 23rd, 2009, 08:41 pm
Yes... Compared to other Kyoani songs, K-ON's weren't very melodic in my opinion. In addition, I didn't like how the vocalist sounded in the OP.

HnG's OP sounds completely out of place. ELISA's singing style is more suited for drama romance stuff IMO (like EF), and it helps if the composer is a little better (instead of just writing the same 3 notes over and over again in the chorus). The ED reminds me of Minami-ke's stuff, which is better I suppose.

I prefered Tears to Tiara's visual novel opening to the anime one. Nothing special at all about FMA's OP musically, but it's very well animated though! FMA's ED is decent, but nothing to write home about. Kurokami's new OP fails in comparison to last season's.

Out of all of the new ones I've heard so far, I probably like Hatsukoi Limited's OP the most.

None of the other ones I've heard are particularly memorable. Though I guess it's possible they'll grow on me later =)

I've been skeptical to Higashi no Eden (Eden of the East), but when I saw it, I was captivated from the OP all the way to the ED. The art I've seen somehow reminds me of Honey & Clover, but being a thriller I've enjoyed it so far.

Is anyone still following this season's stuff (the 24+ ep series)?

Tears to Tiara developped quite similarly to its visual novel, but the mood got too dark too early on, which I disagree with. They threw in some extraneous (and poorly written) material into the middle (Octavia's arc), which really hurt my opinion of the series. Overall, it's still pretty good I guess.

Saki is series I wouldn't have dreamed of liking. In addition to it being produced by the company that did pantsu witches, it's about mahjong, which I absolutely don't have a clue for. Nonetheless, this series is surprisingly entertaining in my opinion, mostly due to the overly dramatic playing and ridiculous characters. Definitely entertaining.

Pandora Hearts surprised me when I recently took a look. First episode wasn't very eventful, but the story later turned out to be much better and quite interesting. The gothic feel and random transitions between regular and superdeformed art reminds me of Rozen Maiden. Art and character designs and are great, but animation is lacking; the OST is phenomenal. The OP/ED in this is by far among the best OP/EDs released this season. IMO Pandora Hearts is definitely worth a watch, is anyone still following this?

Thoughts?

I have to say...Shangri-La IS confusing at first...mostly because you're just asking yourself "how does this relate to anything else?!?!" but as you continue watching the anime (or reading the mangas) all these paths merge, probably one after another...I'm understanding it a bit more as I go on with the anime.

I'm obsessed with 07-Ghost at the moment, it really is quite...I don't know...

The storyline is quite interesting, the characters have many kinds of personalities that makes us relate to some of them (like me with Teito....I'M SHORT AND I WISH I COULD BE TALLER!) and such...it really has everything that I like: comedy, a bit of drama, mystery, magic, cute later-to-be-plushies...and a lot of variety in the characters and their stories. I really am loving it, it's amazing ^^

Hmm, 07 Ghost gives off a lot of yaoi vibes, which is a little discomforting at times. I'm only on episode 4 right now, and so far there hasn't been much happening aside from the initial conflict and that skeleton guy showing up once. I'll probably go a few more episodes and see what goes on.
