Hi all again, I;ve been having some trouble trying to digitally colour in my artwork, one, because when I draw, I always have the trouble of leaving accidental smudges on my work, and when I go to fill in a section white section with some colour, the smudgey bits leave a lot of un-coloured areas that take ages to fix up. Also, because my drawings are in pencil, sometimes the lines aren't complete and have gaps in them, making the colour go through into an un-wanted section. So, does anyone know of a program that can fix up the lines or re-draw them; and can also remove the small smudgey bits?

If you're commenting about the way I spell colour its because in my country, Australia, that's how we spell it.

Hi! I have the same problem...somewhat...my scanner always adds a gray or red tint to the top of my pic. When I edit my pics I use paint and I usually use the eraser rather than filling it in. You can either use white and erase all of the colored pixels then fill it in or by right clicking the color you want you can color in everything. But when your using paint and your zoomed in you have to be really careful. Sometimes while you have left or right clicked down the pic will scroll up or down on its own and leave a line of whatever color you were using... hope this helps a bit...

Using MS Paint, there's almost nothing you can do but to individually erase the dots, or better, retrace your lines (which is what I'd do when I use MS Paint, and trust me, I do that quite oftenly).

Using Photoshop, there is a noise reducing function somewhere in the filter menu. Try that to remove the pixels that your scanner leaves over. If not, I still generally find manually erasing easier. If you're only working with lines, you could try magic wanding the lines and refill it with black on a separate layer, but I warn you that it won't turn out nice.

Not to get too professional, but, the best thing is to trace over your lines. In digital art terminology, it's called inking.

I always use paint for editing all of my drawings...I have GIMP but I only got it recently<_< so I'm really used to and comfortable with paint:lol:...it's also really easy to use and comes with like:think:...every computer...

I have to agree; MS Paint is actually a very useful tool, IF, you know all the tricks and how to properly use it.

My sig was done in Paint. There's a bigger version of that chibi.

MS Paint is fine, Graphics Gale is better. And also free. Just a quick tip! It has some incredibly useful functions for pixel-arting. (A 'replace color x with color y function?! Holy fucking shit!) After using Graphics Gale, I don't see how anyone could ever use MS Paint again.

Graphics Gale!!! I have that too...idk, I'd have to disagree with you there. I don't like it that much...although it has been very useful in some aspects...

MS paint rules because of the curved line tool. That's about the only thing though.

Here's some stuff I did in paint several years ago:

I used Photoshop to shrink the image in order to smoothen it, the originals I worked with were at least 1500 or 2000 pixels wide.

That's fine and all, except you can't get any line weight with MS paint, unlike in photoshop (using paths and such). Line width is very important when you're trying to make your drawings pop. Flat lines = flat pictures. Clean coloring job, though!

And thanks for reminding me of the only reason I keep Photoshop around - inking!

How could you like MSP over GG?! They're the same thing, except GG has features added on top. I really couldn't see any serious sprite artist using MS Paint over Graphics Gale - do you know how to use GG? Not knowing how to use the program is the only way I could see someone preferring MS Paint over it. Oo

MS Paint = MS Paint
Graphics Gale = MS Paint + Color switcher + Zoom function that works + Pixel-by-pixel editing (incredibly useful with small sprites) + a better zoom feature + layers + an animation module (again, incredibly useful) + GIF exporter + sprite sheet exporter + onion skinning....+ a few other things I'm sure I'm not remembering.

What do you use MS Paint for, exactly?

I use MS Paint for the sake of simplicity. XD And the fact that I don't have to download something new and learn how to use it.

Oh, and I use MS Paint for quick doodles.

(sprites?) Like justMango, I like MS paint for the sake of simplicity. Unless I've been missing something, with Graphics Gale, you can only color one pixel at a time which becomes extremely time consuming and annoying. I actually don't layer that much either.

When I edit something I usually switch back and forth between Paint and GG(for some of the features that you've mentioned), but am usually mostly on Paint.

I usually use Paint to edit my scans...which come out very big for some reason...

Huh? Graphics Gale has a paintbucket tool too. I think when I had it about a year ago, it didn't have one for some reason though, so maybe it's something they just added recently. Combined with the "replace color" tool, I think it's a lot faster than MS Paint, so I don't see why you'd need to switch back and forth anymore. I think you're right about the paint bucket tool, though; I remember thinking "why doesn't this thing have a paint bucket?!" about a year ago when I downloaded it for the first time, hahah! XD

:)...The version of Graphics Gale I have does have a paint bucket...remember how in some of my other posts I put "my scanner adds extra red or gray to the top"?...yeah...That makes it very hard to fill in every pixel of the same color when every pixel is a different color...

Ah, okay. So how does MS Paint help with that? Is there some tool in there I don't know about? = \
Also, I think you can set the tolerance level for GG's paint bucket, which is impossible in MS Paint. Or maybe not. I only use it for spriting, after all. XD
Oh, maybe you like how Paint has larger line widths. That'd be a complaint I could agree with. But for that I just box in colors and then use the paint bucket tool; it hasn't really made a difference while spriting for me. But that's definitely a feature GG should have, so I guess I can understand why you'd prefer Paint after all. :3

:)...I think most people might know this...the method I use is also a bit time consuming but not as much as coloring in one pixel at a time. I usually either use the brush or eraser on Paint. If you right-click a color or use the color selector and right-click a color that becomes the eraser color and I use that to color in my drawings...but first I use the pencil tool to redefine my lines...
I only got Graphics Gale recently so I'm always used to having my second color choice with the right-click...rather than replacing your left-click color with right-click...
