View Full Version : In need of some MIDI

Hey, been wondering where I can find me a decent MIDI composition program. I've been using the MML Editor I used from when I used to play Mabinogi to write some of my own pieces in MML format, but the editor I have only lists the sounds that were included in the game, which were like, Lute, Ukulele, and other guitar-like instruments.

I was hoping somebody could link me to a free program out there that would allow me to compose my pieces in MIDI/MML format (either by using the virtual keyboard or by importing my own MIDI keyboard). I just need to open up my musical capabilities, and it bugs me knowing I can't simulate an entire Orchestra / Choral section without having to pay outrageous amounts of money for the software.

If ANYbody could help me find a program, I'm sure it would help anybody else on this site with the same problem I've been running into. Thanks for reading, and happy posting :3

Yeah, I've checked out Finale a few times, which is awesome, but my problem is that 1) I can't read sheet music very well, so I work best with MML or MIDI format files (such as "r4>a+4g+8f+8f8f+8") or using a MIDI keyboard, and 2) I need software that can handle MIDI's for a game that I'm trying to make using C++ coding... which is an art in it's own right. LoL.

I just want a simple solution. Even if I have to pay money for it, so long as it's not an astronomical amount like $600 dollars (which is out of my budget at the moment.. LoL), I don't really care. I've just been effing around with this idea for a game for the past like, 2 years? XD I'm just now starting to do something with my talents.

So yeah, the only thing I'm looking for is a program that uses EITHER MML OR MIDI format, and has an extensive range of voices. I'd just record it onto my computer with my synthesizer, but I don't have the proper cords, and I'm much better at plugging in numbers than writing and playing it. :P

Thanks for the link, though.

I don't really know much about this kind of stuff, cause I only use MuseScore. But here's a list. See if you can find anything (Sorry if you already looked at it, cause it was posted in the thread Nyu posted above).

There's a program I use for my projects, it's called Midi Maker. It's on a like... 50 uses trial, but if you edit the registry entry then you can change up the number of days the program thinks it's been run. It has a maximum of 8 tracks, so it a bit limiting, but it's a pretty simple program. That's my piece.
