Again, please keep in mind about the theme. This month's theme is "Piano Solo." The composition must not only sound good to your ears, but must also showcase the theme as much as possible.

You can vote AND leave comments. ^.^

Good luck to all participants! Thank you for keeping this contest alive!

Um, note to some people who look and laugh at my title name, I couldn't think of a name, so....I put stuff down.

The songs are really good this time, I wonder who I should vote for. I keep having to listen to the songs over and over and over and over etc. Good luck to everyone!

seeing that it's a tie, I only listened the two that are tied... sorry to the others, i know your suppose to listen to all of the songs...

Matt-Chan- interesting sound. very flowing. I really like the melody of it. this song has great potential for a movie i think. a little short, but well played.

michael- nice piece. sounds like someone is really banging the piano to get a sound out, but that could be just the midi format, so i'm going to over that. it has a final fantasy feeling to it from ff8 cause it sounds like (at the beginning) the balamb theme. then it goes into a nice, smooth and thoughtful melody.

both songs are amazing. great job! hehe, making the competition even tougher!

based on Archangel's comment, it seems we have a bug in the voting system. because people's voting decision is not solely based on their own opinion, but rather, influenced by the voting decisions of the others. To eliminate this bias, I think we should somehow reform the voting system so that guests won't have access to see the result of the vote, and members can only see the result after they vote.

congratulations Alphonse and Matt Chan! good jobs.

since I haven't leave any comments yet, i will do so now:

Alphonse - I already commented on it in your topic; great job in transitions between key signitures as well as the use dissonance. but there's space of improvement in term of emotion. Although the emotion is strong, but it sounds not as strong as it should be - probably it needs a stronger climax?

Rovski - good start. but try to compose with more emotion, like the section you did after 2:00, especially after 2:30; they're great. in addition, work on chords and chord progression, and try to make a theme that utilize the whole piece

Selinity - nice melody, definitely great potential. the problem is the bass. Try to vary the bass melody so that it sounds not so repetitive. - I have the same problem in my piece as well~

Ravelle - again, another professional-sounding piece. it's filled with complexity. awesome melody and rhythem in the beginning around 1:20~2:50, then it starts repeat in a random fashion. it's great that around 3:30~4:30 the theme comes back. Finally, be very careful when using dissonance. Not all of them works in your piece.

Michael - the intro sounds a little empty, suggest you add a bass line for it. other than that it's a really nice written song. It has a very strong and beautiful theme. Good job.

Noir7 - needless to say. good theme, good dynamic (did you record it by live performence? because each note seems to have a unique volume.) the only problem maybe it doesn't have a clear climax or a good ending, but since it's supposed to repeat, then that's fine.

Lost memory - it's beautiful. can't believe you can achieved that by only playing on a keyboard. possible improvement includes: vary the bass line or change the structure so that it may sound less repetitive. but good job in building up tension.

Nightmare - I really like this one. It's really emotional. Nice intro, delicate melody/theme, wonderful dynamics and clear structure. but while everything is so nice, the title really ruins it. It indicates that it might be a random piece only to please the ears. so if you're thinking something while improvising/composing this piece, summarize it in a word or two and make it the title. That will give the piece a meaning and skyrocket its rating.

Darren (myself :heh: ) - the beginning, while with a good melody, sucks because of some subtle tempo issue. Need to vary some parts of the repeating bass. some nice transitions but sometimes they end in root position of the tonic - a stable position that doesn't want to move, so try experiment with other chords (possibly dissonance). There're some cool movements like 0:41 - 1:06 and 1:41-1:54. but they can be improved to fit the main theme better.
