From BBC:

At least two people were killed when a car crashed into the crowd at a parade involving Queen Beatrix and the Dutch royal family, reports say.

Dutch police told the BBC it appeared to have been a deliberate attack. No members of the royal family were hurt. Unconfirmed reports said the black Suzuki injured 14 people. It crashed into a monument, narrowly missing an open bus carrying the royals. The parade was being held in Apeldoorn, about 90km (56 miles) from Amsterdam.

Police have not confirmed the number of casualties or commented on the reason for the incident. Dutch TV reports said at least two people had been killed and 14 others injured.

So.. as per american tradition time to panic and scream war on terror?[/sarcasm]

Glad to hear there's no dead, at least not yet? Those few in the photo look like severe injuries..

Not having a royal family to stare at puts me on the other side of fence here. You personally care more about your royal family than.. say a movie star? Hows it feel like?

Sucks when going to see a parade gets people killed :(.

and I'm sorry but attempt on royal family + war instantly made me think Ferdinand... maybe I should lay off the History channel for a bit...

Kou makes a very interesting point, I'm sure none of us like the idea of attempted murder but... lets face it it happens every day and we normally don't stop to think about it. Hows a royal family fit into your life and modify your perception of the whole situation?

Living in the states I had no royal family to... ignore I guess (its what I do with the Spanish one now that I live here)

Hopefully it wont be repeated... kids love a fuckin parade.

Latest news speaks of 4 dead and 5 critically wounded :(

And no Kou, we don't consider this an act of terrorism. Apparently the man who was in the car lost his job a few months ago and was about to be evicted from his house because he couldn't pay the rent anymore. Other sources say that he couldn't see his children anymore after a divorce or something. Nothing has been officially confirmed so far, apart from that it was no accident.

About the position on the royal family in all this, the whole thing was aimed at them. In the end, they're all safe but still 4 people died. Today was supposed to be a holiday, celebrating the Queen's birthday and stuff, then some nutball in a car shows up.

Fucking asshole. How the hell could any of those two things drive a man to commit such a pointless crime? He better go away for a long, long time. There's no reason to hurt anyone over such selfish things.

I found another video, made by someone in the crowd. You can actually hear the car hitting people: http://www.rtl.nl/components/actueel/rtlnieuws/miMedia/2009/week18/Thu18.KIJKER_SCHOKKEND.xml

Oh, apparently the driver didn't survive the crash, there's rumours floating around that he's braindead. No official confirmation yet.

hence the [/sarcasm] at the end of the first sentence.

There's always those people that blame everything bad that's happend to them on whoever's running the company/city/country/world. Sucks.

My condolescences to the dead and their family.

Yes, the driver died. Also, today a member of the marechaussee (pretty much the police unit of the military) also died. That brings the amount of victims to 6, and one dead killer :(

I wonder what makes people do evil things like that. If he wanted to assassinate the family, there was no reason to harm the other innocent bystanders. Still it was amazing that he managed to reach the bus. The police were very lucky to get off lightly.

What are the police supposed to do against a crazy speeding car crashing through the crowd? Jump in front of it and push it back? = \
Anyway, that sucks. At least the worthless guy driving died too, I guess. Not that it helps the poor people killed for no reason.
