I've been drawing again recently, due to a project I opted to join with a few other Ichigos members. So I figured I'd post my stuff here, hahah. Only a few new pictures right now, done over the last week or so. I'll start with the newest and best, which I just finished about five minutes ago, and with which I am very happy. I tried my best, hahah! =D

Awww~

And then some bamboo...
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/jimthegreat1012/050309BambooFinished.png?t=1241506999
It's thinking "Ah!". I'm pretty sure that's what bamboo thinks. It's too bad we can't talk to it...I was inspired by Yotsuba to draw this, so I figured I'd let it have the famous Azumanga Daioh "Ah!"...!

And then the last and oldest one, which I'm not very happy with at all. I'll post it anyway though, so I'll have posted everything (well, almost everything) the project has made me draw so far:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/jimthegreat1012/042709SkirtGirlFinishedSmall.png?t=1241507092
Looks like pastels. Bleah! I didn't try much at all on this one, so this is what I get, I guess. XD

I had fun drawing them. I hope you have fun looking at them!

Yayyy, you're back into it!

I really like the last one, and not for reasons you may think. Getting posture right is very hard, and I think you did very well on her left arm/hand, how it's bent backward. I also like the shadow on her right boot. A nice shading job.

The second one is really cute, but more detail would have made it look awesome.

Nice to see you drawing again hopeless. Must say, I love your art style, looks like pastel x water colour x pencil x whoever knows what; so basically awesome:lol: I feel the first one could use a bit more detail on the face, it just looks a bit plain compared to the rest of the picture. The second I like a lot, like phard said, a bit more detail and it'll look even more awesome'er. As for the third one, I'm not a fan of the pastel look myself, but since does my opinion matter:P Looks great, especially the pose, I've always struggled with getting a good pose. Anyhow nice job, look forward to some more!\

Almost forgot to add that you've got some really nice shading happening there, I can't for my life have a nice soft, even shade or shadow. The shading is actually what i like about them the best lol.

XD I didn't know you were a Yotsuba and Azumanga Daioh fan. Lol, I learn something new everyday.

And what's Yotsuba?
*gasp* You don't know Yotsuba?! Yotsuba is the main character from the manga Yotsuba to!(Yotsuba &!), by...if my memory serves me correctly, Kiyohiko Azuma. XD I've only read the first volume though.

I think I like your third one best. I'm good at shading but I'm bad at making shadows >.<..don't know how that works .
Like Taemond said, I think you should put a little more detail into the face of the first one.
Btw, is the first one a boy or a girl? I couldn't tell...

Oh wow, people like the last one more than I thought they would. I really think it's one of the worst things I've drawn lately, and greatly prefer the other two to it. Oo
Well, that's what critiques are for, I guess! I always learn something new from them, even if it's not what I expect, hahah! XD
Phard:

Yayyy, you're back into it!
Yup! I usually kind of shut down for the Winter, because the cold and dark sap all of my energy from me. Now that's it's spring and everything's green again, I'll be drawing a lot more.

I really like the last one, and not for reasons you may think. Getting posture right is very hard, and I think you did very well on her left arm/hand, how it's bent backward. I also like the shadow on her right boot. A nice shading job.
Hah, great catch. That's the only thing in that whole picture that made me stop and think "oh hey, I drew that better than I thought I would." The rest of the picture disappointed me though, so I still don't like it much.

The second one is really cute, but more detail would have made it look awesome.
I kind of wanted to develop it more, but I was drawing it in PaintChat, and the stupid thing just really wasn't cooperating with me. I had turned a bunch of masks on without knowing it, and ended up with mysterious white blotches everywhere because of it. It took me around thirty minutes to paint around/figure out what was going on/fix the random errors, and by then it was pretty late and I just wanted to sleep. I'm still happy with the second one though; it came out better than I thought it would. I'm definitely going to be doing more black and white work, because it felt like great values practice.
Chelsea:

I really like the first one but the other ones are good too
At least someone agrees with me. Thanks, Chelsea! XD
Teamond:

Nice to see you drawing again hopeless. Must say, I love your art style, looks like pastel x water colour x pencil x whoever knows what; so basically awesome
Heheh, thanks. For the first one, I wanted to go for a watercolor/marker effect. It fell apart a little bit halfway through though, heheh. So it ended up being what you said instead. X3

I feel the first one could use a bit more detail on the face, it just looks a bit plain compared to the rest of the picture.
I kind of felt the same way, but I couldn't think of anything to add to it. I tried giving her face harsher shading, but then it didn't match the rest of the painting. I'm sure there's something I could have done to spruce it up a bit, but I couldn't figure it out. D:

Anyhow nice job, look forward to some more!\
Thanks, more will be coming, or M and Porsche will murder me.

Almost forgot to add that you've got some really nice shading happening there, I can't for my life have a nice soft, even shade or shadow. The shading is actually what i like about them the best lol.
Thanks again. To get an even shade, I just go back and forth between the lights and darks a lot. So, start with the dark color, and make a nice big stroke bordering the light and dark areas....now you should have a color kind of in between. Pick that color with the color picker, and softly repeat....or something. You just have to tweak it till it looks smooth, I guess. xD
Gotank:

Haha, I like that second art of the potato! And what's Yotsuba?
...Potato? Bamboo =/= potato! Did my "realistic still-life detail sketch experiment" fail that hard!? And you should know what yotsuba is. I link you to it all the time, and you ignore me and then ask me what it is again the next time I mention it. If you want the scans (you should), then you know where to look. I'd recommend buying them though, because they're epic. They have some really impressive art in them, to boot. Really impressive. Impressive enough to make lazy me draw something. That's impressive! I'm buying them! He deserves the money! You should go buy them too! They're like nine dollars a volume! Cheap! Sasuga sells them.
RainingSilver:

I didn't know you were a Yotsuba and Azumanga Daioh fan. Lol, I learn something new everyday.
I didn't know you were, either. Good taste!

*gasp* You don't know Yotsuba?!
That's what I said, too. = =

I think I like your third one best. I'm good at shading but I'm bad at making shadows ..don't know how that works .
Like Taemond said, I think you should put a little more detail into the face of the first one.
I don't know how that works either, even though I've been there myself. xD
I added some blush to the girl's face to try to busy it up a little more. I was actually meaning to do that in my original sketch, but left it out in the finished drawing. I think it helped a little....maybe... ::shrugs::

Btw, is the first one a boy or a girl? I couldn't tell...
Ooh, someone doesn't know their kyudo! She's wearing her boob-holder, otherwise she'd be more curvy. =P
I guess it is sort of a boyish outfit and stance though, if you don't know about Japanese archery. (Not that I do. I just used a reference photo, hahah!)

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I'd say "expect more soon," but whenever I say that, my art thread ends up never being updated by me again, so I'll try not to jinx myself this time. So..."expect more someday!"

>.< You spelled "Teamond" wrong. Switch the "a" and the "e" around to get Taemond, not "teamond" which looks like a combo of "tea" and "almond" to me XD.

:) No, I know much about Japanese archery but I've always wanted to learn. Not that I would ever able to become a demon purifying miko(priestess) like Kagome or Kikyo XD. Oh, and for the first one, I thought during lessons and stuffs, people would take it like...really seriously...so I don't think she'd be smiling, but that's just what I think/thought. Oh, and also, I think she'd look better if her shoulders weren't so broad and her cheek bones were a bit more obvious, to make her look older. :heh: And I don't know if this is your style or not but she doesn't have any pupils...

I thought it was pretty obvious your second drawing was a bamboo plant...

Oops, my mistake, my mistake. I read it as "Taemond," too, so I have no idea why I spelled it wrong. Sorry, Tae!

No, I know much about Japanese archery but I've always wanted to learn. Not that I would ever able to become a demon purifying miko(priestess) like Kagome or Kikyo
Heheh, you don't know till you try! =D

Oh, and for the first one, I thought during lessons and stuffs, people would take it like...really seriously...so I don't think she'd be smiling, but that's just what I think/thought.
Since when does anyone take any sort of class seriously? Especially so seriously that they don't even smile? You must go to some hardcore school, because all I ever did was screw around in all my classes. I don't think I did anything *but* smile! =P

Oh, and also, I think she'd look better if her shoulders weren't so broad and her cheek bones were a bit more obvious, to make her look older.
Hmm...well, her shoulders are three heads wide, which is about standard for a human being....but I think you're right; I could have made them a bit more narrow to make her girlier looking, heheh. She's the first person I've ever painted, so I was drawing too close to the paper to see the whole picture at once, hahah. XD
I think her cheekbones suit her fine, though. Who wants to draw old looking girls?

And I don't know if this is your style or not but she doesn't have any pupils...
Well, that's not too hard to figure out, is it? It's not like anyone would actually forget that their character has no pupils, would they? :heh:

I thought it was pretty obvious your second drawing was a bamboo plant...
Thank God. The more I looked at it, the more I thought "maybe it really is a potato!" XD
Thanks for the insights, Rain! I'll take them into consideration for the next person I draw!

Good job!
I like the way you painting the shade.
Thanks a lot!

Hey, I love to have fun, but when it comes to school work or something I'm really into (*hint hint* art class), I'll be really serious about it. And I also used to take taekwondo (Korean martial arts, no, not karate), where mostly everything was serious...XD Lol, and if you've read any conversations between me and Kuroiame, I'm apparently known as the "emo", "Chinese" girl that "loves to study for easy tests", "doesn't play video games", and is really smart(note, this one isn't in quotes :P).

Yup, in Japan, you can take classes in highschool. In either Japan or China (I forget), even grade-schoolers can take the class. =D
And you have a better reputation than I do. I'm known as "the loveable fuckup," or "the dumbest genius I've ever met," or "the biggest mooch in the world," depending on who you're talking to. And those are just the names that my "friends" have for me. The people who don't like me so much have even better names for me. xD

The first one is so interesting, it amuses me how the top half looks like it's drawn in a totally different style than the bottom half. But that's just me though. It's well done nonetheless. I would suggest that you keep your method of shading constant through out one picture. =D

>.< Wow...But trust me, the worst thing you can do to a Korean, is mistake him/her for a Chinese person...
Gosh I hated elementary school...

First enter the building, boy in my class that I've known for x amount of years,
"Are you Chinese?"
"No, I'm Korean."
Five minutes later, another boy
"Are you Chinese?"
"No, I'm Korean."
Five minutes later, another boy
"Are you Chinese?"
"No, I'm Korean"
Five minutes later, first boy
"Are you a Philippine?"
"...Do I even look like a Philippine?!?! No!! I. AM. KOREAN!!!

What the fuck. Her right ear isn't proportional to her left ear, nor are they even in the same place. Do you have one ear right next to your cheek, and the other one near the back of your head? Jesus christ HC. Her head is waaay too big for her neck. Wait wait wait, I get it. She's a pokemon trainer. She must also be an all-rock-pokemon trainer, her hands are very manly due to the lines on her knuckles. Not to mention you placed the lowest knuckles on the right hand waay too far up the hand. What the fuck were you thinking? She even has tree-trunk thighs. If you don't mind, I took the liberty of drawing a better picture for reference. http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq43/GeckosGoMoo/HC.jpg

Notice how everything is in proportion. I expected better from you HC.

erm... The problem's not the ear, but the chin. It's obvious Hopeless was attempting to do a profile rather than a frontal. You can see this by the way the lady is sitting in the picture and the placement of the facial elements. Though it's a little odd to have a profile from one direction and having the face looking in the other while the character is posing for a photo. Also, this appears to be in anime-style, which means big heads and eyes. From the way you're ranting, I'm surprised you didn't rant about how the eyes don't have pupils.

And Whiplash has never looked close enough at a female's hand before. They're smaller than you think, and I believe Hopeless did a good job on the right. The left, on the other hand (pun intended), could use some work.

The picture doesn't detail her thighs; it details her dress. The only problem I see there is that her right buttock seems to be huge.

Please be mature, child.

In my previous post, I referred to her left and right from our point of view, but I believe it causes confusion, so from now on, I refer to her left and right from her point of view.

Theres no problem in her chin at all, you can clearly tell she has nuts of some kind in her cheeks. More in her right cheek than left. The red irritation in her cheeks seconds this.

Also, this appears to be in anime-style, which means big heads and eyes. From the way you're ranting, I'm surprised you didn't rant about how the eyes don't have pupils.

They do have pupils. They're white and and the top of her eyes. I assumed she was trying to look sexy.

And Whiplash has never looked close enough at a female's hand before. They're smaller than you think, and I believe Hopeless did a good job on the right. The left, on the other hand (pun intended), could use some work.

The knuckle lines on her left hand (those that which connect the fingers to the base of the hand) are nearly at the middle of the back of her hand. I'm not which which women you've been looking at, but knuckles are always in contact with fingers (or toes).

The picture doesn't detail her thighs; it details her dress. The only problem I see there is that her right buttock seems to be huge.

Her dress covers her thighs, and by the way her right thigh is bulging, it is apparent her right thigh is quite a bit larger than her left thigh. They are both huge however. I do believe you are right though, she must have a rather fat buttocks. However, that would contradict her lack of breasts. Even with clothing that thick, with an buttocks that big, you've gotta have big breasts too. So some sort of bulging in the chest area, however minor, should be had.

Please be mature, child.

I'll try, but, no promises.

How did you improve so fast?!
I'm not sure, but it isn't practice. = =;;
I do think about drawing a lot, though. Eg, whenever I look at anything, I try to imagine how I'd put it down on paper. I think it really does help a lot. Not as much as actual practice, but if you think about something all day, you're bound to get at least a little better at it at least. X3
Anyway, thanks Meim!

I have been practicing a little more lately, though. I'll upload some stuff as soon as my scanner starts working...

Edit: Scanner's working, but DevArt sucks ass and is resizing my stuff. Does anyone know of anyplace I can upload images to for free that won't shrink all my stuff down?
Anyway, here's some practice I did yesterday and today. I have like five more pictures to show you guys, but DeviantArt is being retarded and won't take them, so the other ones will have to wait...

Two stumps. At least they died together! X3
DA shrunk it down to like half its size though. How annoying!

Old man!

There! I'm having fun using pencil again...I haven't used it in forever, and the old man surprised me with how well he came out. It was kind of like "oh, I can actually do this?" XD
A pleasant surprise, for sure! =D

The tree sketch was about fifteen minutes; I've been drawing in my local (very old) graveyard...tons of fun, since there's lots of nice scenery there. I did a bunch more of them, but I can't upload them right now for some reason. Old dude took about 45 minutes.

>.< Lucky....you have scenery in your neighbor you can draw...<_< Everything in my neighborhood is just...boring...and...gang activity...and......nothing...(no, I do not live in a ghetto).

XD The tree stump(s?) is(are) really good being that a) it's good. b) I can't draw scenery for my life. c) I suck at those little details...like...grass and leaves...how do you make it so simple yet not simple??!!
As for the old man...(XD LOLZ. Ever since I started taking art classes I've been like that too, "I can actually do this?") I can tell he's wearing a hood of some sort...but it just kinda...disappears into the white XD? But I really like the detail for the shading and lighting. I can do that with watercolors but I never seem to get that quite right with pencil...not to mention that I can't really draw realistically to begin with ...

The places I use are
Photobucket (www.photobucket.com) — for a limited hosting, usually the fastest and allows for larger files. Also has a nice image manager and categorize. In addition, I believe your content remains your own. Tinypic (www.tinypic.com) is also a part of this company. The bad thing about this company is that they're out to sell their services. It's free to join, but there's no telling when their services might turn into pay-for-use or start spamming your account with ads.
Imageshack (www.imageshack.us) — Unlimited hosting but they keep images based on last access (not good for archiving) and is quite a bit slower for people outside of the United States. They have a media manager but it's not worth it. I use this host for quick, easy, and anonymous hosting.
BayIMG (http://bayimg.com/) — Uncensored hosting, but does not allow hotlinking. Images become publicly advertised on upload, without addressing any licensing; use at your own risk.

Well, I spent a few hours making a tank animation today (shooting, lol), but then GraphicsGale went and deleted it on me, because the way it saves is stupid. I'm stupid too, I guess. I should probably pay more attention to what I'm doing after working on something for that long. Oh well, hahah.

Yeah, clean drawings are the best kind. They're hard to do, though. The more you scribble on the paper, the more faults you can hide. XD

Yeah, pretty standard portrait.

XD ROFL. As amazing as the actual drawing is, it was the little chibi(?...what would you call it?...) head that caught my attention. What is he refusing though(the Jap. word - Kotowaru: to refuse)?...

I'm one who appreciates art in odd ways. This is what I thought when I saw this picture; it's intended to BE a compliment.

"Hahahahahaha!!"

I love it
lol, thanks. That's all I could go for after I screwed it up so much, so I'm glad that worked out for me at least. XD

Heheh, he's refusing the ugly drawing, I suppose. It was really just meant as a joke to the IRCer (Azn and Balta especially) - we yell KOTOWARU! at each other pretty often as a way of saying "DO NOT WANT" to anything that displeases us, hahah. Thanks for the compliment, RS.

Eh, painting! I drew it at the city's industrial park. It's on top of a giant hill, so it has some pretty views. I didn't do the view any justice, and my watercolors look like markers, sadly. XD
This is the first real-medium painting I've ever done, though, so I can't hate on it too much.

I've been practicing drawing hands a lot lately, and was planning on doing a sharp digital painting with that in mind today, but the stupid outside painting ended up taking way longer than I expected. Hand-painting soon, maybe. Or maybe a long time from now, knowing me. Anyway~!

Guh, it really does look like I did it using crayola markers. I really don't know how to use watercolors. Bleah! Back to digital for next time! XD

:O When did you get that pic up? Lolz, it's a bit on the simplistic side, but I shouldn't be talking, being that I can't really draw nature at all. :D I like it. You didn't do thatbadly with the watercolor though. I can tell that it was done with watercolor and not Crayola markers...not that my opinion will always mean something...
Lolz, just one thing. It kinda looks like you have two light sources but I can't really tell. From the poles and the left tree, it looks like the light is coming from the back(behind what we see) right side, but from the tree on the right side it looks like the light is right in front of it....idk...maybe it's just me? :/...

Drawing hates me too, Mich. And thanks for the compliment! And practice does make perfect. If you're producing bad drawings it only shows that you're pushing yourself. =D

Heh, I can tell it's watercolors too, but I don't think someone who doesn't draw often would know the difference. It does look pretty close to markers, hahah. XD

Yeahhhh, honestly, I didn't even have a light source in mind when I did this....I had one giant brush, no pallatte, and nothing to seal off portions of the drawing with, so this stupid thing took me like four hours as it was. I really just kind of rushed through it towards the end. I'll need to buy better tools for next time; this painting was a huge pain in the ass, hahah. At first, I was thinking light source from the right, but I took so long to do the painting, I ended up forgetting what the heck I was doing towards the end. My mistake, my mistake. All the objects have different light sources, hahah. How amateurish. XD

Anyway, thanks for the critique, RS!

Whoa, never answered your question, pixieberry! Really sorry about that; I just hate bumping my own topic unless I have new material to post, and sometimes I go months without drawing, so I ended up putting off responding to you till I forgot all about it. Sorry again!

Anyway, I only tried charcoal a few times back in highschool. It was pretty fun, but really really messy. I probably won't use it again until I have a bigger place to work, heheh. I need another blending stick for my pencil drawings, though. Pencils + blending stick look surprisingly charcoal-y, even though you can't get the same range of values using just a #2 pencil. X3

I should have something else up..........soon. Sunday, hopefully. Programming has become too addicting, lately.

Sorry, Rain. I've been programming instead of drawing lately. I could post code in here, but it wouldn't be very interesting to look at. Honestly, I'll probably just start a new thread when I post more stuff, because it'll probably be a few weeks from now until I'm satisfied enough with what I'm programming to start drawing again. D:

Here you go, Rain (and anyone else interested). Something to look at while you wait for my next one. XP
I started this one way back in June, and then quickly stopped working on it. A shame, I guess, hahah. Anyway!

I liked the grass, stump, and sword, but wasn't a huge fan of anything else. I told myself I'd learn to draw trees and shrubs and such better, and come back to it later, but this painting is too old for my tastes to come back to now, so this is it. I'll probably do a repaint sometime in the future when I'm a bit better at painting. =)

And...this is the last thing I'm posting in here, for sure. My next thread will arrogantly be titled "I draw like a fucking pro, huh?" And that thread won't be open until I draw like a fucking pro, hahah!

:O It's Excalibur!!...in a tree stump!! XD Roflz. (Why does my Control Panel never inform me when Hopeless updates this thread?)
:D It's pretty good. XD Work on the tree trunks at least so that there is more than just one random tree that stands out. Aand...so that the trees aren't just really thick, long, green lines. Roflz, and there's a random half circle on one of your trees. (the...blurred detail on the leaves are good...:/ I wonder if I could get that kind of effect with a pencil...probably not...)
:) But I really like this, you put a lot of detail into the random tree and it's good, even if it is random(or maybe it's just closer than all of the other ones? :/).
And the tree stump is good. I like the stage effect :). Lighting and shading is really good too. XD Lolz, if it were me and I was doing it on the computer, I'd probably go OCD with the coloring and make sure every pixel in one area was the exact same color.

Honestly, if you kept up with the textures you did on the trees to the left, this picture would be quite nice. I can't get over the fact that each of the trees look like a single bullet stroke from your typical paint application.

Yeaaaah, but I'm done with it. That was the thing that killed it, though. The first tree on the left was my test tree, and it wasn't up to snuff for me, so I decided to put off finishing the painting till I was better at drawing trees, but now I'm not going to finish it, so..... XD

The other trees were all obviously placeholder trees just to test the lighting. I know they don't look like trees! =P

I love the cleanness of digital art, too. So nice looking, I think.
And very good eye. This really is basically a Zelda-fan-art piece. For the art style, I was thinking Wind Waker/Animal Crossing, and the idea itself was inspired by an old concept art picture of the Master Sword for Link to the Past. It always makes me happy when people figure out what I was inspired by, because it means I was emulating my heroes accurately. Thanks Taemond! =)

The sword image is neat, very good colors. It has a certain appeal to it. It is good to see it is not all detailed (background trees), which bring focus on the good part. The thing I never learned (or forget often). LOL. Anyway, Reminds me Zelda or Secret of Mana (just played that some month ago as well).

Hahah, thanks RS. I was very surprised to find a wolf in such a cute pose, myself! They really do look like awesome giant dogs, though. And iirc, they're like ten times smarter. Cool animals! =D

Okay, now that I have the pic figured out, I like it . But something does seem off about the head....can't put my finger on it though....
Yeah, my values aren't as varied as they should be, which is probably making the drawing harder to read than it should be. I'm not very good with pencils yet, so everything ended up more gray than I wanted, hahah. The wolf's neck isn't quite as slender/long as it should be, but it's around the right shape. The back of his neck should slope more gracefully; I noticed that was the main problem when I checked my reference. Glad you like him, though! =)

I think the neck is a bit too big on the last one...
Yeah, like I said, it's slightly shorter than it should be, which might make it look a little stockier than it should. Also, his left front leg is showing, which you might not have noticed; I should have made it darker to make it clear that was his leg, and not a continuation of his neck/body. I thought it was easy to tell looking at it, but that's because I drew it. Now that I look at it again, I can see how it might be confusing. D:

I still don't get how people can draw like that though...
Funny, I thought the same thing after I finished this one. Then after ten minutes of being proud of myself, I decided that the drawing wasn't nearly good enough to be happy about. So that's my secret I guess. Lots of practice, since I'm never happy with anything I make. There's no magic to it, just steady hard work. XP

I think the neck looks fine. It's a husky, well fed wolf.
Heheh, indeed. =D

Lucky. You must have some cute dogs!
