Generally you use a headset - but I assume you can use just a mic, with your speakers :) Pick one up for 20 bucks from Dickies, lol - that's what I did, and it works pretty well!

You could, but everyone would need the subscription service, which I doubt that everyone would be willing to pay for it.

Lol, that's because one of your idiot friends actually clicked that link and got infected.

M didn't say anything about Spyware, nor did he say the Ads were in the program itself.

What I was saying is that whilst the program was open, I had random instant messages and calls from companies promoting a particular product, and smart bot conversations requesting that I click on a link that leads to websites that could only be considered as malware attempts. Normally I'd write this off, but I've only released my Skype address on one site (this site). Obtaining spam after two days of creating the account is both unbelievable and unacceptable.

In addition, last week when everyone was trying to add me to a chatroom in Skype, my client first got the request, I accept it, and then it would die. Completely. I'd restart the application, it'd do the same thing. I rebooted, the same. I reinstalled, the same. Thus, the client was broken.

These aspects compounded together lead me to avoid using Skype and write it off as "crap". Also, I'm not the only one that experienced these issues with Skype's service. I did notice that those whom subscribe to their service tend to not have these issues, though. Perhaps I'm just looking too deeply at things...


Also, as far as I know, Skype is not spyware or a virus; nor does it install either of those two.

I never had those problems. besides, what you say about people advertising on skype, sounds more like what happened to me when I tried using ICQ. You just have to set the program to not accept convo's from people you haven't added to your own list (isn't that the default setting anyway?). Stability - never had a problem with that either.

I think it's just you M, or you're just trying to think up a very bad reason not to join :P

And I'll probabily try it again one day, too; but it's left a bad taste in my mouth. Like the days of using MSN Messenger underneath of AOL back in the 90s. AOL did something when you were using MSN that caused text ads to appear under the guise of a IM. That stopped me from using the MSN client for nearly 5 years. Which I then tried it again and it was golden.
