Hello all, just posting a new composition of mine. Its been ages since I made one so I thought, why not give composing another go (I need the practice anyway lol). So I came up with this, I tried to make it a late-medieval period style. So, hope you all like:lol:

Well, I'm not really sure how it's medieval period; explain your thought process there.

Well, I've tried to keep that medieval sound about it, and I've also tried to use the same note phrasing for it. I mainly did this cause I thought it would a good idea, but to see if I could replicate the medieval style of music (for I just love it). I guess I'll just have to wait for a friend of mine who's a medieval historian and ancient music historian to have a look at it. not really sure how it would fit being medieval though, considering medieval music basically made a basis for all music that followed in the later years, so it kind of was a hidden foundation for music. I guess just sounding like tradition music was what I was after lol.

I cannot even tell you how much that didn't answer my question (at least the one inside my head). lol My point was that Medieval music tends to consist basically of monophony, and late medieval music might have ventured to Renaissance-like polyphony (of course this is referring to religious music, which was basically the basis for classical music). However, if you mean more like Medieval folk music, that might be slightly different (although I would still say there was very little actual harmony). I wanted you to explain how you think your piece mimics this style.

Oh, that lol. Well, I guess I was trying for the classic folk-like sound of medieval music. I don't really want to get technical lol, I was just trying to get something to sound like medieval music. I didn't want to over-complicate things lol. :heh:

Well no, you don't, but its important when you're mimicking a style for you to know exactly what defines that style. It's not really over-complicating it, it's just making sure your music is well thought-through. Anyways, I was wondering what things you DO know about Medieval music that you were trying to bring out in this piece.
