I think it'd be difficult to animate Death Note. It's a bit controversial and I could easilty see people getting bored with it after the third episode or so. When I say people, I mean the people that haven't yet read the manga.

Death Note is actually a good anime though, like I know what you mean some stuff can get boring but you'd like have to go in depth of it to understand it.
